Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist: A Study on the Authorship of the First Gospel
Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist: A Study on the Authorship of the First Gospel is a scholarly work by Edgar Johnson Goodspeed. In this book, Goodspeed investigates the authorship of the Gospel of Matthew, one of the four canonical Gospels in the New Testament. He examines the historical context in which the Gospel was written, the language and style used, and the theological themes presented. Goodspeed argues that the Gospel was likely written by the Apostle Matthew, one of Jesus' disciples, and that it was written in Aramaic before being translated into Greek. He also explores the Gospel's portrayal of Jesus as the Messiah and its emphasis on Jewish traditions and customs. This book is a valuable resource for scholars and students of biblical studies, as well as anyone interested in the origins of Christianity and the development of the New Testament. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.

Matthew Henry started his six volume, 5500 page Bible commentary in 1704. The foundation of his epic commentary was his system of expository preaching. Robert Hall, George Whitefield, and Chareles Spurgeon "used the work, and commended it heartily. Whitefield read it through four times, the last time on his knees." Is God still speaking through the saints of old like Matthew Henry? Consider these words: "Those that had been not only distinguished by a dignified people, on whom God had put honor, and to whom all their neighbors had paid respect, are now brought into contempt...That place is not far from ruin in which religion is already ruined." We need a Bible revival; we need a prophetic word. Matthew Henry is a teacher and a prophet to our generation. Come and study the first and last chapters of the Bible with Matthew Henry. Do as George Whitefield did; study the Word and words of this renown Bible teacher together. Be edified and be changed.

Matthew Langley, the son of a Yorkshire farmer and R.A.F Spitfire pilot, had his first glimpse of Natal in 1942 when the troop-ship carrying him to the desert war in North Africa calls at the sea-port city of Durban for a few days to off-load and refuel. He and his friend Robert Hughes are befriended by a Durban family who show them the city and surrounding country-side. He becomes absolutely fascinated with the growing of sugar cane and dreams of one day owning a cane farm of his own. In spite of his severe war injuries he is determined to return to find this farm of his dreams and to work it successfully. In doing so he meets the people of Natal and Zululand who with their warm hospitality and generosity befriend him and help him make his dream a reality. Matthew's story now continues with his marriage to the lovable, vivacious Susan Walton who gives him the children he has wished for, so that laughter and happiness will come again to 'Sweet Grass, ' his beloved Zululand cane farm

Matthew Chapter Five begins the longest discourse of Christ recorded in Scripture. It is commonly called the Sermon on the Mount. The Beatitudes which preface that sermon challenge us with the highest ethical and spiritual standards possible. The whole chapter is convicting because it explodes human conceptions of righteousness while exposing the hypocrisy of self-righteousness. This lengthy exposition of Matthew Five seeks to understand and apply God's high ad holy standards for the purposes which Christ intended. We must come to the realization that our very best is far short of God's demands. This serves the purpose of driving us to Christ who alone can satisfy the righteous expectations of God and who can develop in the believer an appreciation for true holiness.
