Dead Man's Trail

The first in a bold, new, gun-blazing Western series introducing Carson Stone. He may be reformed, but he's still a wanted man. Unless he can track down the biggest, baddest outlaw on the Dead Man's Trail Reformed outlaw Carson Stone, in this razor-sharp Western, stakes his claim in the untamed, bloody Idaho Territory, only to find himself trapped in a bullet-riddled nightmare he may not walk away from . . . Former thief and wanted man Carson Stone dreams of a peaceful life on a ranch built by his own hands, but dreams don't always come without a steep price. To earn a stake, Carson rides west to collect the reward on a claim-jumper. The land is beautiful, but times are hard as the territory is ravaged by the latest Indian war and a mining boom gone bust. When Stone steps in to defend a family ambushed by murdering marauders, he makes a terrifying discovery: one of the hired killers carries a death list full of names and dollar amounts. But the names on this list belong to upstanding citizens, not criminals. When the local sheriff is gunned down in broad daylight, Carson takes on the one job he never wanted--pinning on a lawman's tin star to protect the innocent. A gang of ruthless killers are storming back to finish their work--and Carson Stone has just moved to the top of the death list.

Nate Morgan's Spur Award-winning series continues with all the gun-blazing action of Larry McMurtry and the dark humor of The Sisters Brothers, as reformed outlaw Carson Stone's quest for redemption sends him riding a hard trail in pursuit of the Wild West's most wanted killer... The most wanted man in the West, Big Bob McGraw has earned his reputation as a thief and killer. With a gang of trigger-happy desperadoes willing to do his bidding, McGraw has robbed banks, stagecoaches, and railroads, raised hell ravaging towns, and left bodies littering the streets in his wake. Carson Stone rode with McGraw's gang exactly once, minding their horses during a bank robbery, before quitting. But with the marshal of El Paso, Texas, gunned down in cold blood as the bandits escaped, he's been judged guilty by association. To clear his name, Carson teams up with bounty hunter Colby Tate to track down the outlaws--now scattered across the frontier--and bring them to justice. And Carson must convince his partner to bring McGraw in alive or he'll never escape the shadow of the hangman's noose . . .

With no-holds-barred honesty and poignant storytelling, Nate Larkin introduces a model of community and friendship that is reinvigorating men's ministry across the country, a model he calls The Samson Society. Too many men see the biblical hero Samson as their model for manhood--a rugged individualist of the highest order. Yet, Samson's solitary successes were eventually overcome by moral weaknesses. Larkin, through the story of his own past and the stories of those in The Samson Society, offers a radical, refreshing alternative.

Song Cave

Poetry. In his Eclogues, Virgil offers the reader poems about responding--listening, picking out, and answering back the pleasures of song. Nate Klug's RUDE WOODS is an inspired, modern response--a new translation that blends talkative elegance with lyric intensity. In a manner that is as successful as it is surprising, notes W.R. Johnson in his introduction, Klug has devised a conversational idiom that relies on spare diction and spare syntax, on a pure clarity of sight and sound to give us superb poems that give Virgil's pure lyricism a genuine 'answering form.'Translation tends to be either a conspicuous aid to comprehension or that other thing: a strangely impure art form that both mimes and contends with an other. At its best it makes you think and not think about the original; it carries you along in a state of belief even as you remind yourself that there is an older text behind the new song. If the translator-poet strays too far from the colloquial the text hardens, seeming too much like another language; if he or she is too modish it seems as though the earlier poet exists solely to promote the work of the later one. Virgil himself was a modeller of the work of others, as we all are to some degree. It's a delicate balancing act performed well by only the best translators. Nate Klug is of this noble band. 'He cares about poetry' and his Virgil has a lightness of touch that only the best can manage.--Laurie DugganNate Klug's RUDE WOODS renders Virgil in an idiom as honest and appealing as 'ripe apples, cooked chestnuts, and cheese.' Ezra Pound's Propertius comes immediately to mind. These selections evince the same careful attention to the natural rhythms and movement of speech--perfect for a poetic escape into simple pleasures. Yet Klug doesn't skirt an important lesson of the Eclogues: escape is fleeting. Loss, longing, and exile dog even the shepherds in this idyll. They ease their own troubles and 'make the way / less painful, singing and walking, / walking and singing together like this.' Nate Klug confidently reaffirms the abiding comfort of these poems.--John Tipton

When he moved to Lebanon to live in a Shia Muslim neighborhood, Nate Scholz knew he was in for an adventure. The aroma of orange blossoms wafting over the countryside was as inviting as the people he met. To avoid offending his Arab hosts, Nate learned to enjoy drinking bitter coffee. By the time the bombs started falling seven years later, Nate had married the woman of his dreams, brought two children into the world, and become an accepted part of the Shia community.Scholz braids highlights of seven years lived in the Hezbollah heartland together with tense emails written to friends and family during the 33-Day War in 2006, when Nate's family survived Israeli air assaults and a refugee camp in Cyprus. Coffee & Orange Blossoms tells a story that is, as the title indicates, both bitter and sweet.
Creative in God's Image: Engaging the Creative Good
If, as the scriptures tell us, we are created "in the likeness and image of God," then that means that we are called to imitate God. The first image we see of God in the scriptures is that of Creator. And so, the author takes us on a journey of what Godly creativity looks like, pinpointing pitfalls and encouraging Image-Bearers to walk in creative faith.Creativity, he points out, is not limited to the arts alone. But rather, God calls every person into creativity, in whatever field they feel drawn to-from banking to electrical repair and beyond. And so the author admonishes us to discover our own creative call and live it to the fullest, walking in humble faith in the God who created us to create alongside Him.

Short stories are a project, allowing a writer to put onto paper the many ideas circulating in his or her head. Yet, short stories are in themselves full length. Like any story, they start with a seed of an idea, which is then extrapolated, and eventually presented to you, the reader. A short story contains characters, and plots that are dear to the author, just like a full length novel. They are still meticulously written, re-written and edited until they form a final product, ready to be shared with the world. There are four short stories in this collection, with the fifth story taking the form of a short novella. This final story, the Movie of Life, is about a man's quest to fight the oppression of a world ruled by five global empires. Together with friends, he forms an organisation to change the world. It is his journey, his movie of life, that we are watching. The short stories in this collection are not related, or even about the same world. Yet, they all share the same seed of an idea. It is the idea that an individual can change the world. The characters in these stories leave marks on the worlds they live, and they leave marks on the people they meet on their journey. For some, these journeys are long, and for others quite short. But every journey leaves a lasting impression.
