Seneca Ray Stoddard’s photographic and literary work paralleled the era of exploration of this region as well as the early years of photography. It was during his lifetime—as a result of the changing perceptions of the wilderness—that the area first attracted artists, tourists, and summer residents.Jeffrey L. Horrell’s book explores the nature of this Adirondack pioneer’s work and examines how it influenced and was influenced by the changing attitudes toward wilderness in the last half of the nineteenth century. It is the first complete volume to provide an in-depth study of both Stoddard’s writing and photography. Through his photographs and publishing ventures, Stoddard moved from recording the wilderness landscape to defending it against the logging industry and other developers.Stoddard was instrumental in creating the modern perception of the ""forever wild"" landscape of the Adirondacks. Although there had been a well-established tradition of guidebooks for American tourist regions, Stoddard’s practice of including illustrations based on photographs represented a new departure. Horrell shows how Stoddard’s work reflected matters of class and power on the emerging tourist industry and its effect on the popular literature of the day.

Perhaps best known for Rebel without a Cause, American filmmaker Nicholas Ray directed dozens of movies in the film noir genre, including In a Lonely Place, Johnny Guitar, and They Live by Night. Born in Galesville, Wisconsin, in 1911, Ray was an iconoclastic figure in film-an alcoholic, depressive, and compulsive gambler-who found himself increasingly blacklisted in Hollywood in the 1960s only to be heralded as the spiritual father to American cinema’s New Wave and one of America’s greatest rebel auteurs. From Martin Scorsese to Jean-Luc Godard and Jim Jarmusch, Ray’s influence can be seen throughout the work of some of the twentieth century’s greatest directors. In this authoritative biography, Bernard Eisenschitz leaves no stone unturned.
X-Ray Metrology in Semiconductor Manufacturing

X-Ray Metrology in Semiconductor Manufacturing

The scales involved in modern semiconductor manufacturing and microelectronics continue to plunge downward. Effective and accurate characterization of materials with thicknesses below a few nanometers can be achieved using x-rays. While many books are available on the theory behind x-ray metrology (XRM), X-Ray Metrology in Semiconductor Manufacturing is the first book to focus on the practical aspects of the technology and its application in device fabrication and solving new materials problems. Following a general overview of the field, the first section of the book is organized by application and outlines the techniques that are best suited to each. The next section delves into the techniques and theory behind the applications, such as specular x-ray reflectivity, diffraction imaging, and defect mapping. Finally, the third section provides technological details of each technique, answering questions commonly encountered in practice. The authors supply real examples from the semiconductor and magnetic recording industries as well as more than 150 clearly drawn figures to illustrate the discussion. They also summarize the principles and key information about each method with inset boxes found throughout the text. Written by world leaders in the field, X-Ray Metrology in Semiconductor Manufacturing provides real solutions with a focus on accuracy, repeatability, and throughput.
X-Ray Spectroscopy in Environmental Sciences
Applications of X-ray spectroscopy to air, water, and soil pollution studies are covered in detail in this essential publication. Air pollution can hardly be studied by any other method to such an extent. Much of our present knowledge in this field was obtained by laboratories using many of the same methods described in this work. A number of examples illustrate the contribution of X-ray emission spectroscopy and its capabilities in the area of water pollution. Examples of soil pollution studies by the use of biological monitors is also presented. A comprehensive reference list with the help of author and subject indices provides direction for further investigation.

While books on the medical applications of x-ray imaging exist, there is not one currently available that focuses on industrial applications. Full of color images that show clear spectrometry and rich with applications, X-Ray Imaging fills the need for a comprehensive work on modern industrial x-ray imaging. It reviews the fundamental science of x-ray imaging and addresses equipment and system configuration. Useful to a broad range of radiation imaging practitioners, the book looks at the rapid development and deployment of digital x-ray imaging system.

To aid men and women endeavouring to prepare themselves for group service during this transitional era, the Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul, suggested that a compilation be made of all that he had written with Alice Bailey on the Seventh Ray of Ceremonial Order. This book is the fulfilment of that wish.
X-Ray Computed Tomography in Biomedical Engineering

X-Ray Computed Tomography in Biomedical Engineering

Robert Cierniak

Springer London Ltd

Computed Tomography gives a detailed overview of various aspects of computed tomography. It discusses X-ray CT tomography from a historical point of view, the design and physical operating principles of computed tomography apparatus, the algorithms of image reconstruction and the quality assessment criteria of tomography scanners. Algorithms of image reconstruction from projections, a crucial problem in medical imaging, are considered in depth. The author gives descriptions of the reconstruction methods related to tomography scanners with a parallel X-ray beam, trough solutions with fan-shaped beam and successive modifications of spiral scanners. Computed Tomography contains a dedicated chapter for those readers who are interested in computer simulations based on studies of reconstruction algorithms. The information included in this chapter will enable readers to create a simulation environment in which virtual tomography projections can be obtained in all basic projection systems. This monograph is a valuable study on computed tomography that will be of interest to advanced students and researchers in the fields of biomedical engineering, medical electronics, computer science and medicine.

A Ray of Light is one of several works compiled by Archimandrite Panteleimon (Niznik), the founder and first abbot of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. Here, Fr. Panteleimon's focus is a perennial topic of fascination and concern for all Christians – the End Times. Also included are essays on the veneration of Holy Icons and the power of Holy Relics, and on the Church._x000D_ /> _x000D_ /> This classic text of "Old Jordanville" has been freshly typeset and lightly edited and includes a short biography of the author in order to preserve and spread Fr. Panteleimon's legacy "unto generation and generation."

In his sculptural practice, American artist Charles Ray (born 1953) has long been fascinated by the concept of representation, the depiction of the human form and questions of scale. Known for his keen sense of—and respect for—the uncanny, Ray has carved a widely admired path that crisscrosses the arenas of minimalism and conceptual art, while continually pushing the boundaries of visual perception. This book marks the long-term exhibition of works at Glenstone Museum selected by the artist, including Baled Truck (2013), a sculpture made of solid machined stainless steel, emblematic of the artist’s meticulous fabrication process. It also includes a conversation with—and text by—the artist and installation photography.

In this children's book series the main character "Ray-Ray" goes thru a series of events that will test any child, but he remains "Righteous". Ray-Ray also lives by one of the author's favorite mottos "Treat others the way you want to be treated." The author decided on this concept because he has realized that many children are not exposed to models of respect in their young lives. Also, the author wants to show them a child that is secure with who he is, loves himself, and overcomes many trials and tribulations; yet he is respectful, positive, has goals, dreams, and never stops pursuing them. He is excited about the opportunity to touch many children's lives. He was given the name "Ray-Ray" because that is the author's nickname, and the author simply thought that it would peak people's interest. Also, there are some negative stereotypes associated with the name therefore, the author wanted to put the name in a positive light.
