Rural Ireland is in the grip of fear. Violent criminal gangs travel out from the cities to rob and beat-up country folk. Now one of these notorious gang leaders, a psychopath known as The Poison, has suddenly disappeared, and his last known location is a small quiet village. But nobody is talking.Aspiring reporter Janis Frost, who has a proclivity for chatting aloud to the dead poet Robert Frost (no relation), is sent to find out what is going on. She soon learns that close-knit communities have a language outsiders cannot hear, and that to be accepted inside, one has to learn to be quiet; to keep secrets. As she befriends Big Jim Power, a bachelor farmer famous locally for his short temper, she begins to suspect that he has something more than effluent in the tanks beneath his sheds. Despite her earnest efforts, she has no idea that she is being tested, or that there is a gang on their way to the village intent on revenge for the loss of a consignment of drugs. What the gang don't know, is that Power has a deadly ally in Sam Waits, a former elite member of the US Special Forces, who haunted by a tragedy from his childhood, lives alone in the woods outside the village. By the time Janis Frost joins the dots and figures out what is going on, she realises that she wants to be on the inside, that she wants to be part of the community. The only trouble is, she is about to die, and if she wants to live, she only needs to answer one simple question: can she keep a secret?

The notion of people in their environment is critical to understanding the future of work. Socio-ecological means people in their environments, which is the fundamental premise of open systems. Tropophilia, as discussed in this book, is built on the socio-ecological model of open systems. The view of Tropophilia, outlined and discussed in this book, highlights the importance of an enabling organizational environment, with emphasis on the philosophy of future Human Source* (HS) practices, which is a consequence of Open Systems Design Principles (OSDP). The tropophilia, thus developed by the organizational structure, shall lead beyond resilience and antifragility. Inherent and adaptive resilience, which is posited as worker resilience, can be enacted in a range of environments on the premise that the organization is building that resilience through a combination of HS practices based on OSDP. This book focusses on the fact that the onus for developing Tropophilia, in order to go beyond resilience and antifragility, does not rest just on a joint activity involving workers and the organization's top management, but on their continuous directive correlation with their environment. An agile and lean system, built on OSDP, critical thinking, and ideal-seeking behavior, can be developed through a radically different approach to the anachronisms of traditional symptoms-based approaches of "HR" practices. Thus, building the foundation of a Tropophillic Organization which is how a few savvy CEOs are leading the way and thriving on uncertainty. * I find Human 'Resource' demeaning. Hence, the use Human 'Source' throughout this book.

I thought I'd known what angry looked like on Black before all this. I hadn't.Black takes Miri with him to New York, where he thrusts her into a world of Wall Street, talk shows, fancy dinner parties and being hounded by paparazzi. Although he's playing the part of smirking Wall Street pirate, all of this is part of his new business venture, which, as far as Miri can tell, consists of hunting down and killing every single vampire in existence on Earth. Mostly, however, Black wants Brick. He flat-out won't stop until he's cut the head or heart from the vampire king who put him in that federal prison in Louisiana.Alarmed at the changes she sees in Black, Miri grows increasingly worried at the lengths he seems willing to go to bring the vampire kingdom down. Between his nightmares, mood swings, late-night disappearances, a new infatuation with swordplay, and outright lies, she can't help worrying about his mind, too, and if trauma is fueling this obsession even more than anger. When a series of terrorist attacks take place in the southern United States and Black appears to be involved, Miri's fears worsen. More and more, she starts to wonder who is hunting whom, whether Black is baiting the vampires into a confrontation or Brick is just manipulating him once again for his own purposes.Standalone novel.
