What if technology provided the means to meet our Savior face to face? What would that teach us about Him? What would it teach us about ourselves? Joshua of God by William Boffi is a compelling novel which explores the what ifs of this scenario in-depth. In the year 2028, scientists use technology to clone a human being using blood harvested from the sacred Shroud of Turin. The story follows the clone, named Joshua of God, throughout his years on earth as he seeks to fulfill his Father's will, helping and healing those in need and thereby bringing about what appears to be the second coming of Christ. The concept of the book came to William in the 1970's when interest in the Shroud of Turin soared. He used the idea to teach young people that whether the Shroud is truly the burial cloth of Jesus or not, we are certain through our faith that Jesus lived, died, and resurrected to give us a path to salvation. The principal reason for cloning Joshua of God was to learn more about the humanity of Jesus. The story will challenge your worldview and cause you to consider questions of faith, humanity, and divinity and how they shape our beliefs today. William Boffi is a retired Information Technology executive. He and his wife Claudia have been married for 57 years. They are devoted to their two adult children and their 5 grandchildren. His interests include writing, cooking, technology and being with family. William has earned a degree in Mathematics from Providence College. William and his wife live in Cranston RI. Little has been published about the life of Baltimore's Commodore Joshua Barney, a man who earned a commission in the nascent Continental Navy, sailed as a privateer, and served as a commodore in both the French and American navies. Louis Norton's biography scrutinizes Barney's colorful life and critically analyzes events that forged his character. Although largely forgotten, he was one of the most clever, competent officers of the American sailing navy. Based on primary and secondary sources, this biography contains many of Barney's quotes and some charming contemporaneous verse written about him that describes the changing fortunes of his life.A natural seaman and leader with extraordinary courage, Barney took part in thirty-five Revolutionary War naval engagements and was imprisoned three times, but escaped twice using resourceful disguises. In his later years Barney became a national hero defending the Chesapeake during the War of 1812. Author Norton elaborates on Barney's remarkable history with the American flag: he was among the first to use it for naval recruitment, sailed under the banner on the first American vessel to receive a cannon salute from a foreign nation, and carried the stars and stripes into the French National Assembly as the new republic received American diplomatic recognition. Finally the commodore served on the committee that ordered the Fort McHenry flag which became the "Star Spangled Banner." With this fascinating biography, Norton has polished Joshua Barney's image to the brighter luster that many historians believe it deserves.

Joshua is not merely a story of conquest but also a treasure trove of theology. David G. Firth interprets the book of Joshua with a sensitivity to its place as Christian Scripture. Joshua is marginalized in many churches, often because its message is misunderstood. Firth reveals that, rather than simply being a story of conquest, Joshua is concerned with matters of identity and faithfulness. Joshua exhorts God's people to live out their calling in light of God's promises. While Israelites like Achan fall short, others--often gentiles--show surprising faith in God. Firth also probes the book's theological themes, such as the promised land, government, rest, and promise. The book of Joshua boldly challenges the complacent in faith to be a nation committed to God. The Evangelical Biblical Theology Commentary (EBTC) series locates each biblical book within redemptive history and illuminates its unique theological contributions. All EBTC volumes feature informed exegetical treatment of the biblical book and thorough discussion of its most important theological themes in relation to the canon--all in a style that is useful and accessible to students of Scripture.
The Autobiography of Joshua Chamberlain

The Autobiography of Joshua Chamberlain

Joshua Chamberlain has become a pop culture icon and his regiment is now the most famous small military unit in American history. A major focus of The Killer Angels, the largest selling Civil War novel of all time, save Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and two major motion pictures, “Gettysburg” and “Gods and Generals,” the story of the 20th Maine has become legendary, particularly their effort to defend the Union Army’s position on Little Round Top at the Battle of Gettysburg. According to filmmaker Ken Burns, it was the story of Chamberlain as told in the novel The Killer Angels that inspired him to create his masterpiece, nine-part documentary film, “The Civil War.” In 1890s, at the encouragement of friends, Chamberlain wrote an autobiography covering his life from childhood to just before he joined the army in 1862. He stopped there, because by then he had written so many speeches and essays about his life in the army that there was no point in telling that part of his life story again. Assembled here, and annotated, are that original 1890s manuscript along with essays he wrote about the three most significant battles of his military experience—Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Petersburg—as well as the story of the surrender ceremony for the Confederate Army at Appomattox which he commanded.

"Joshua. The Lord is our God," is a Bible study workbook for group leaders or individual Christians. It will be of great value to anyone who is new to Christianity. It contains questions with answers that are easy to understand. This is NOT a text by text study. It is thematic. We ask the questions that many people are asking today and then reflect on those questions. We try to lay out the big picture of what the Bible is all about. We, therefore, focus on why we, as Christians, believe what we believe. The book, Joshua, contains important biblical principles for all generations. God had chosen Israel - by His grace with a very specific purpose in mind - to be a blessing to all other people. We read, "I will bless you and make your descendants into a great nation. You will become famous and be a blessing to others. I will bless anyone who blesses you, but I will put a curse on anyone who puts a curse on you. Everyone on earth will be blessed because of you." - Genesis 12:2-3.The obedience and purity required for Israel to dwell with God teach us about what is required from us as well to dwell with God anywhere. The insight we get from Joshua into God's unfailing character is an important theological fact which helps us understand our dependence upon the Lord for our salvation. As we watch God meticulously keep His promises, both in blessing for obedience and in cursing for disobedience, we are reminded that He keeps his New Covenant promises just as well. However, in the New Covenant God has given us an obedient covenant Mediator-a Saviour greater than Joshua to lead us into a salvation greater than Canaan.
