"I never thought my life would turn out like this. My best friend Richard Brown is dead. Parts of his brain still paint the wall where he shot himself. Eighteen years ago, he and Barbara entrusted me with curing their adopted son, Harold. I was so sure of myself. After all, I had cured his half-brother at the orphanage. I thought I knew what I was doing, but now I'm not sure of anything.Richard left me a note telling me to help Harold find the men responsible. Richard claims if we fail to solve his suicide that his company and everyone working there will be lost. What does that mean, and does it matter? How can I help? I am a psychiatrist, not a detective. If I fail, what will become of Barbara? Will Harold's grief unleash the beast living inside him? The berserker is controlled, but he is not contained."Join childhood development psychiatrist Doctor Joshua Zeev as he attempts to find the answers to his best friend's death and help the family through their grief. Will his challenge of a lifetime bring answers and closure, or even more perilous dangers?

I have long respected Bruce Lewis as a virtuoso jazz guitarist. A close cousin to Blues, Jazz is dissonant, unstable and like the music he has mastered, the author's prose follows suit. In the tradition of Thomas Wolfe, Lewis's words are a cry to the very soil that birthed each character. In lyrical outbursts, Joshua Celeste remembers and is remembered. We are introduced to the characters that make up Joshua's life from the fields of his boyhood home at Water Maple Farm in Kentucky, with a cattle rancher father and misplaced, glamorous mother to the streets of Budapest, Hungary as a traveling guitarist, a melancholic ex-pat. Bruce Lewis moved to Budapest on May 4th 1993 and stayed until May 22nd, 2012. He played with some of the best European musicians in the world, traveling with his guitar to twelve different countries. His insight into the culture and people of the ancient city make Joshua Fragmented part travelogue and history lesson along with a beautiful, philosophical lesson on the sacrifices of art and the pull of home. This book resembles the dissonance of Jazz as a cast of brilliantly articulated characters sing angular harmonies in the reader's ear. We hear the passionate railings of his academia-minded brother, Doc and his loyal, sex-obsessed and jealous bandmate, Crip Kovacs right alongside his grandmother Bertha, mother Agnes and the steady stream of women in which Joshua searches for meaning. It is a testament to the lost, nomadic quality of an ever-changing modern world. I am most proud to have a small part in bringing this powerful and original work of fiction to light. - Erin Chandler

In this thought-provoking and intriguing fantasy, set in a parallel world to our own, the reader must accompany the quasi-biblical figure of Joshua, as he slips easily and compellingly between different time-perspectives and across various continents. In so doing it becomes apparent that the wayfarer has embarked upon a strange, almost surreal odyssey, one in which he is challenged both existentially and spiritually. In encounters with a colourful spectrum of characters the protagonist is repeatedly obliged to defend not only his faith in God, but also his personal hopes that a life after death be both justified and congruent with reality. At times his journey is illumined, at other times made fraught, by the possibilities and limitations alike of friendship and love. Moreover, he is obliged to encounter a variety of individuals who confront him with their own locales and ways of life: not least, an alien people for whom his personal philosophy of life is neither apt nor necessary. Ageing all the while, he experiences dimensions akin to our own, whether it be a busy metropolis, a rural backwater, or, for that matter, an old people’s home. Reading occasionally like an allegory or parable, this is a story which will interest all who are dissatisfied with secularity and who search for a deeper meaning to complement and make more purposeful their lives. It is a work to which the reader may return to engage with favourite episodes, or again with the protagonist’s journey taken as a whole.
