It remains important for anyone seriously interested in capital markets, financial journalism, or even their own personal investments."—From the Foreword by Ken Fisher, CEO of Fisher Investments and Forbes columnist "Loeb tells us to put all our eggs in one basket, and watch the basket."—John Rothchild, Financial Columnist, Time magazine "This book is very special in my life. After reading 1,200 additional finance books, The Battle for Investment Survival's principles and concepts are still valid for consistent success."—Victor Sperandeo, Author of Trader Vic on Commodities In The Battle for Investment Survival, the turf is Wall Street, the goal is to preserve your capital at all costs, and to win is to "make a killing without being killed." This memorable classic, originally written in 1935, offers a fresh perspective on investing from times past. Paths to Wealth through Common Stocks contains one original concept after another, each designed to greatly improve the results of those who self-manage their investments -- while helping those who rely on professional investment advice select the right advisor for their needs. Originally written by investment legend Philip A. Fisher in 1960, this timeless classic is now reintroduced by his well-known and respected son, successful money manager Ken Fisher, in a new Foreword. Filled with in-depth insights and expert advice, Paths to Wealth through Common Stocks expands upon the innovative ideas found in Fisher's highly regarded Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits -- summarizing how worthwhile profits have been and will continue to be made through common stock ownership, and revealing why his method can increase profits while reducing risk. Many of the ideas found here may depart from conventional investment wisdom, but the impressive results produced by these concepts -- which are still relevant in today's market environment -- will quickly remind you why Philip Fisher is considered one of the greatest investment minds of our time.

A seminal shift has taken place in the relationship between Internet usage and politics. At the turn of the century, it was presumed that digital communication would produce many positive political effects like improvements to political information retrieval, support for public debate and community formation or even enhancements in citizen participation in political decision-making. While there have been positive effects, negative effects have also occurred including fake news and other political disinformation, social media appropriation by terrorists and extremists, ‘echo-chambers’ and "filter bubbles", elections influenced by hostile hackers and campaign manipulation by micro-targeting marketing. It is time for critical re-evaluation. Designed to encourage critical thinking on the part of the student, internationally recognized experts, Jan A.G.M. van Dijk and Kenneth Hacker, chronicle the political significance of new communication technologies for the promotion of democracy over the last two decades. Drawing upon structuration theory and network theory and real-world case studies from across the globe, the book is logically structured around the following topics: Political Participation and Inclusion Habermas and the Reconstruction of Public Space Media and Democracy in Authoritarian States Democracy and the Internet in China E-government and democracy Views of democracy and Internet useUnderpinned by up-to-date literature, this important textbook is aimed at students and scholars of communication studies, political science, sociology, political communication, and international relations.

New in the second edition, the book addresses bioenergy, energy balance, biodiesel, photovoltaic applications, and climate change. The authors take a multidisciplinary approach and share their observations on trending technologies (including neuroscience, artificial intelligence, virtual reality (VR), nanotechnology, and genetic engineering) that they predict will have a significant impact in the next 25 years. Attributing the major problems in the world to overconsumption and overpopulation, they outline solutions that depend on global and local policies and work to reduce consumption, population growth, greenhouse gas emissions, environmental pollution, and military expenditures. In addition, the book proposes possible answers to our energy dilemma that include: Reduced demand of fossil fuels to depletion rateTransition to zero population growth and the beginning of a steady-state societyA tax placed on carbonImplementing more policies and incentives to increase conservation and efficiency and to decrease the emissions of carbon dioxide"… a basic introduction to renewable energy… for non-engineering and physics students... a balanced book in terms of content and topics covered … with limited interests for professionals working in the field."—Radian Belu, University of Alaska Anchorage, USA

It is common today to hear the claim that we are engaged in ""a clash of cultures."" The first step in addressing conflict is for all parties to listen to each other. That is the goal of this publication: to allow Christians, Muslims and Jews to listen to each other's scripture and tradition, particularly to hear what each has to say about seeking justice, pursuing peace and working for reconciliation. ""The pious of all nations shall have a place in the world to come."" Sanhedrin 105a/Babylonian Talmud ""I bring heaven and earth to witness that the Holy Spirit dwells upon a non-Jew as well as upon a Jew, upon a woman as well as upon a man, upon a maidservant as well as a manservant. All depends on the deeds of a particular individual."" Tanna de Vei Eliyahu ""You yourselves know that it is unlawful for a Jew to associate with or to visit a Gentile; but God has shown me that I should not call anyone profane or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without objection. Now may I ask why you sent for me?"" The Apostle Peter, Acts 10:28-29 Lynn Gottlieb, one of the first women to become a rabbi in Jewish history, is a pioneer Jewish feminist, activist, writer, visual artist, ceremonialist, community organizer, master storyteller and performing artist. She is co-founder of Shomeret Shalom Global Congregation and teacher of the path of the Torah of Nonviolence. Currently, Lynn is director of Youth and Family Programs at Chochmat HaLev Congregation in Berkeley, CA. She is a fellow with the Fellowship of Reconciliation and co-founder of The Community of Living Traditions at Stony Point Center, NY. Her journey includes 45 years of engagement with Israeli-Palestinian conflict transformation and she serves on the board of Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity. Her books include Trail Guide to a Torah of Nonviolence; Peace Primer II; She Who Dwells Within: A Feminist Vision of Renewed Judaism; and A World Beyond Borders Passover Haggadah, which she also illustrated. She is very funny. Rabia Terri Harris, Founder of the Muslim Peace Fellowship (www.muslimpeacefellowship.org), launched MPF in 1994 as the first Muslim organization specifically devoted to the theory and practice of Islamic nonviolence. Rabia received her religious education through the Halveti-Jerrahi Tariqa, a traditional Turkish Sufi order. She holds a BA in Religion from Princeton University, an MA in Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures from Columbia University, and a Graduate Certificate in Islamic Chaplaincy from Hartford Seminary. In 2009, her three decades of experience in spirituality and community service led to her being chosen as the first president of the Association of Muslim Chaplains. Currently, Rabia serves as chaplain and scholar in residence at the Community of Living Traditions at Stony Point Center (http: //stonypointcenter.org/multifaith-community), an Abrahamic residential community devoted to the pursuit of peace and justice through the practice of hospitality and the care of the earth.
