From Birth to Resurrection in the Gospel of Luke Jesus came to lift up the lowly. Throughout his ministry to his final days on the road to the cross, we find stories of his relationships with ordinary, flawed, and unexpected people. He met, dined, and traveled with people who were not perfect. Many of them were struggling, some were outsiders or even outlaws. Whoever they were, from those he healed to the outlaws with him at his crucifixion, Jesus brought the good news of God's kingdom to those who most needed to hear it. In Luke: Jesus and the Outsiders, Outcasts, and Outlaws, pastor and bestselling author Adam Hamilton explores the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Luke. Through Luke's stories we find Jesus' care and compassion for all as he welcomes sinners and outcasts. As we study Luke and see Jesus' concern for those who were considered unimportant, we hear a hopeful and inspiring word for our lives today. The book can be read alone or used for a group study and church-wide Lenten program. Additional components include video teaching sessions featuring Adam Hamilton, a comprehensive leader guide, free downloadable resources for children and youth, and a digital worship and sermon helps. The book includes a link to download the free teaching resources for children and youth.

I am a 27 year old senior nursing student at Blessing- Rieman College of Nursing in Quincy Illinois and have four children. As I was growing up my mom had Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma. Most days she was not feeling well. It was hard for me to understand what was going on, which stagnated my ability to cope with my mom being gone a lot and trying to understand how she felt. I think that as a child it is important to have things explained to you at a level that you can understand so that you can process change and differences better, not only in that time but for the future as well. After my mom passed away when I was seven, I never really understood what had happened or what was going on. I wanted to know when mom was coming back. I hope that this book can give a little bit of understanding to children and that it might give them hope and better coping skills to help along the way just by simply understanding the concept of the actual physiologic responses that are going on. This book in particular goes over Leukemia and how it can affect someone and the signs and symptoms that could manifest themselves if you have this illness. It also explains treatment options and gives hope to those that may be going through a scary time like this and knowing that with science and research outcomes are becoming better with each day that medical professionals can learn more about each disease process.

The current interest in reading the Gospels as narratives has reclaimed aspects of these texts that historical-critical approaches failed to respect. The richness of these newer readings can, however, disguise their limitations as literary-critical exercises. Developing Hans Frei's concern for theological reading, David Lee reworks the narratology of the Dutch literary theorist Mieke Bal to produce a theological narrative reading practice that formally respects the text as scripture while leaving open the possible meanings that readers may construct for themselves in the act of reading. Lee demonstrates his approach through readings of the Narrator and the characters Jesus and the Demons as aspects of a composite Lukan narrative Christology.

25 stories retold from Luke's Gospel, matched by 25 very sympathetic contemporary stories, covering related themes, about the Robinson family, parents Steve and Kate and their children Peter, Sarah and Jemma. By hearing one of Luke's stories and then a story about the Robinsons, children will: become familiar with some of the best stories from the Bible; realise that the Bible is not just about things that happened 2000 years ago to people living 3000 miles away, but that it also deals with issues that affect people today; learn that ordinary families have problems that they can often solve with understanding and patience; and begin to appreciate that the Bible can help young people today. The stories are primarily intended for school use but could also be used as talks in the context of junior church. A brief prayer is included for use at school assemblies.

Luke Kelly (1940-1984) was an Irish singer and folk musician from Dublin most famous as a member of the band The Dubliners. Kelly was one of the best-known figures of the Irish folk music movement of the 1960s and 1970s. A Dubliner from the north inner city. He emigrated to Britain in 1958. There he first became involved in the growing international folk music scene in which Ewan MacColl was a central figure. In 1962 Luke Kelly returned to Dublin and quickly became a central figure in the city's burgeoning folk music community. He formed a folk group with Drew, McKenna, Ciaran Bourke and John Sheahan, which he named The Dubliners. In 1965, Kelly married the actress Deirdre O'Connell, one of the founders of the Focus Theatre. In the mid-1960s, Luke moved to England and on returning, he rejoined the Dubliners. Luke remained a politically engaged musician, and many of the songs he recorded dealt with social issues, the arms race and war, workers' rights and Irish nationalism. Luke Kelly was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1980, and died in 1984. He remains a Dublin icon and his music is widely regarded as one of the city's cultural treasures. The Ballybough Bridge in the north inner city of Dublin has been renamed the The Luke Kelly Bridge.
