Thanks for entering into this adventure in coloring. I am looking forward to sharing my love and passion for artistic coloring with you. I created all of the 50 images in this book by hand using my own personal collection of photos taken by myself as inspiration. I then used various symmetry software tools to complete the overall designs you see here. Although the images are copyrighted, as the buyer of this book, please feel free to copy them for your personal use. If you choose to do so, this will keep the book new and ready for use. Some folks prefer to color on a heavier paper so that the color from marker pens will not bleed through the paper. I'll often color on 80lb paper. Each image is on only one side of the page, the reverse side being left blank. If you'd rather color right inside the book, I'd recommend using blotter paper or a thin piece of cardboard behind your page, just to protect the next image from any color bleeding through to the next page, especially if you plan to use marker pens for coloring. This will keep all your images clean for you to work on. It is also fine for you to use regular crayons or colored pencils. The designs are suitable for beginning to advanced students. The important thing is . . HAVE FUN Don't forget to check out my other books in the HEARTS AND FLORALS series. I am dedicated to producing these designs for you. -- Marie Kaye

This book is the story of a legend. Marie was born at the end of the nineteenth century, grew up in the early days of the twentieth century and became a legend in the months culminating with the Easter Rising in 1916. This is her story. The history of Ireland is replete with legendary characters. Fionn MacCumhaill, C chulainn, Queen Meadhbh, Granuaile, Wolfe Tone, Jonathan Swift, Constance Markievicz and Michael Collins are only a few. For centuries, these legends have captured the imagination of Irish people everywhere and contributed significantly to our literature, history and culture. Some of these legends are well known historic figures. Others are also historic, but over the centuries much about their lives has been lost in the mists of time. Many others may or may not have ever lived. In every case, however, it is memorable words or heroic deeds that make a legend. Consequently there are also those who, by choice or by circumstance remain completely anonymous, leaving only the memory of their heroic acts. But these characters are no less legendary. One hundred years ago an Irish Republic was declared. The rebellion which followed was quickly crushed by the might of the British Empire but, ultimately, it led to a free and independent country. Among the legends who emerged from that struggle were many women whose names will never be known. And yet, without their deeds, there would be no modern Ireland. Marie presents her story on behalf of those women, legends all.

Marie Duval: maverick Victorian cartoonist offers the first critical appraisal of the work of Marie Duval (Isabelle Émilie de Tessier, 1847–1890), one of the most unusual, pioneering and visionary cartoonists of the later nineteenth century. It discusses key themes and practices of Duval’s vision and production, relative to the wider historic social, cultural and economic environments in which her work was made, distributed and read, identifing Duval as an exemplary radical practitioner. The book interrogates the relationships between the practices and the forms of print, story-telling, drawing and stage performance. It focuses on the creation of new types of cultural work by women and highlights the style of Duval’s drawings relative to both the visual conventions of theatre production and the significance of the visualisation of amateurism and vulgarity.Marie Duval: maverick Victorian cartoonist establishes Duval as a unique but exemplary figure in a transformational period of the nineteenth century.
