Maxwell's Equations and the Principles of Electromagnetism

Maxwell's Equations and the Principles of Electromagnetism

Richard Fitzpatrick

Jones and Bartlett Publishers, Inc
2008
nidottu
Designed for upper division electromagnetism courses or as a reference for electrical engineers and scientists, this book introduces Maxwell's equations and electromagnetic waves as soon as possible (i.e., in the first third of the book), and then goes on to discuss electrostatics, magnetostatics, induction, etc., in the light of those equations. The book also provides a thorough discussion of vector field theory which emphasizes the rotational invariance of the dot and cross products, together with div, grad, and curl, and thus gives a clear physical motivation for the use of those constructs to describe electric and magnetic fields. Unlike many competing books, Maxwell's Equations amp the Principles of Electromagnetism covers topics such as advanced potentials, retarded fields, forces on dielectric liquids, antenna theory, and Faraday rotations.

A stunning adventure, simultaneously reminiscent of Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN and Bill Waterson's CALVIN AND HOBBES, MAXWELL'S DEMONS is a beautiful, heartbreaking book. PUBLISHER'S SYNOPSIS Maxwell Maas may be the greatest mind the world has ever known, but at 10 years old he has a lot to learn. Adventuring to distant worlds through his makeshift multiversal closet door, Max will encounter greatness and goodness on a cosmic scale. But will he realize that danger lurks on both sides of the door before it’s too late? PRAISE FOR MAXWELL'S DEMONS: "Incorporating the doomed wonder of Terry Gilliam's ‘Time Bandits’ and the mangled innocence of PT Anderson's 'Magnolia', MAXWELL’S DEMONS is a true lump-in-the-throat American epic." - Alex Paknadel (Arcadia, Turncoat, Dr. Who) "MAXWELL'S DEMONS never loses its footing or its confidence. It's an astonishing debut from the next writer and artist to watch. It feels like they're already at the top of their game, and it's only just beginning." - Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou (Strip Panel Naked, PanelxPanel) "Like comics need ONE MORE brilliant writer on the loose, but here's Deniz Camp" - Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Shipwrecked) "One of the most imaginative comics I've read in quite some time. Consummately well written, and beautifully rendered. Recommended." - Curt Pires (The Forevers, Tomorrows) “We might very well be looking at one of the most important and formative works of the current generation.” – Hagai Palevsky, Rambles Into The Void

Tuttiett was born and brought up in Newport, Isle of Wight, the daughter of the surgeon Frank Bampfylde Tuttiett and his wife Elizabeth n e Gleed. Largely self-educated, in early adulthood she visited London, various other parts of England, and Yverdon-les-Bains in Switzerland;but for the majority of her working life as a writer suffered constant debilitating illness from asthma and rheumatism reports described her as "a confirmed invalid"-that left her unable to leave her bed for more than two to three hours a day. She wrote lying on a sofa

This book focuses on the re-evaluation of four Maxwell Anderson plays within the context of the emergence of the New Woman and the perception of a marriage crisis in the United States during the 1920s. The four plays under consideration are White Desert (1923), Sea-Wife (1924), Saturday’s Children (1927), and Gypsy (1929). These plays are largely forgotten and, even when the titles appear in Anderson scholarship, coverage has tended to be cursory and dismissive. This work represents a fresh approach and re-assessment of an American playwright who bore a significant impact on the drama of his time, serving not only to place Anderson’s work more effectively within the context of American theatre during the 1920s, but also to bridge the gap between his work and the marriage-related plays of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

This monograph covers the mathematical theory and tools behind electromagnetism – governed by Maxwell’s equations. After some background in functional analysis is introduced, the spectral theory of the Maxwell operator is discussed. Results available for special limits and decompositions, such as static and time-harmonic are taken into consideration as well as error estimates relevant when solving those equations.
Maxwell’s Equations
This volume collects longer articles on the analysis and numerics of Maxwell’s equations. The topics include functional analytic and Hilbert space methods, compact embeddings, solution theories and asymptotics, electromagnetostatics, time-harmonic Maxwell’s equations, time-dependent Maxwell’s equations, eddy current approximations, scattering and radiation problems, inverse problems, finite element methods, boundary element methods, and isogeometric analysis.
