Aaron's Rod is a picaresque novel by D. H. Lawrence, started in 1918 and published in 1922. Lawrence began writing Aaron's Rod early in 1918, but abandoned the work after its first eleven chapters. The longer portion that finishes Aaron's Rod was written by Lawrence in 1921. The biblical title refers to the rod of Aaron in the Old Testament, Moses' brother who built the Golden Calf in the desert for the worship of the Israelites. The rod, his divine symbol of authority and independence, finds its echo in the flute of Aaron Sisson. (wikipedia.org)

Aaron's Rod is a picaresque novel by D. H. Lawrence, started in 1918 and published in 1922. Aaron Sisson, a union official in the coal mines of the English Midlands, is trapped in a stale marriage. He is also an amateur, but talented, flautist. At the start of the story he walks out on his wife and two children and decides on impulse to visit Italy. His dream is to become recognised as a professional musician. During his travels he encounters and befriends Rawdon Lilly, a Lawrence-like writer who nurses Aaron back to health when he is taken ill in post-war London. Having recovered his health, Aaron arrives in Florence. Here he moves in intellectual and artistic circles, argues about politics, leadership and submission, and has an affair with an aristocratic lady. The novel ends with an anarchist or fascist explosion that destroys Aaron's instrument. (wikipedia.org)

Aaron's Rod is a novel by D. H. Lawrence, started in 1918 and published in 1922. Written in the years following World War I and set in postwar England and Italy, Aaron's Rod questions many of the accepted social and political institutions of Lawrence's generation, and raises issues as valid for our own time as they were for his. The novel's hero is an Everyman who flees the destruction in England and his failing marriage and who, like Lawrence himself, becomes absorbed in discovering and understanding the nature of the political and religious ideologies that shaped western civilization.

A suspenseful, thrill ride with themes of personal sacrifice, dedication, and humility underscoring the action. A dream vacation turns deadly. No one plans to live a nightmare, but Richard Carson suspects that he and his wife Kaylie chose the worst possible location for their honeymoon vacation. Nestled in an isolated village with primitive accommodations, they hope to explore mysterious ancient ruins and learn about an advanced civilization that existed thousands of years ago. He and Kaylie thought exploring the archaeological remains of an ancient culture would provide safe adventure with terrific stories to tell family and friends. Soon, after arriving at the enclave, Richard becomes uncomfortable with the culture and customs of the hamlet and feels threatened by the hard-looking village men and guards. He begins counting the minutes until the exploration is over so they can return home. While experiencing the community and its residents, Richard determines the hamlet hides horrible secrets and concludes that he and Kaylie are not guests--they are prisoners. The village ruler, Adonis, a godlike bronze skinned giant enforces strict adherence to local customs and culture. Richard believes Adonis desires Kaylie and intends to take her as his own. Richard is determined to uncover the secrets of the hamlet, protect Kaylie, and--if possible--escape. The Orichalcum Rod is a suspense-filled adventure that builds in scope and intensity. The plot twists and turns will have the reader turning pages late into the night.

Pagan Portals - Divination: By Rod, Birds and Fingers
Divination is only a small part of a witch’s stock in trade, and although a basic introduction to the subject can be learned from books, proficiency will only come through vigorous practice. This proficiency comes through the discovery of certain secret matters by a great variety of means, correspondences, signs and occult techniques. Before a witch can perform any of these operations with any degree of success, we need to develop the `art of seeing’ and the ability to divine with rod, fingers and birds. Divination is what could be referred to as the practical element of Craft magic, and we don’t even have to be witches to be able to read the portents. But it helps! A companion volume to Pagan Portals: By Spellbook & Candle and Pagan Portals: By Wolfsbane & Mandrake Root, from popular Moon Books author Melusine Draco.
