Trailer Trash With A Girl's Name: Father Figures
We all blame our parents to some extent for the misfortunes of our childhood. Stacey Roberts can't ever quite forgive his mother for giving him a girl's name. And that was just the beginning. Roberts detailed the family's five-year adventure in their unpredictable Winnebago in his previous novel. Now, his free-spirited mother, entitled older brother, criminal stepfather, and trusty old Winnebago are all back for the next chapter in his story. Machetes at the breakfast table, shooting grapefruit for sport, and a dogged police detective get the story rolling, along with trailer park bullies and his mother's daily menu from hell. Through his work, Roberts explores the relationships between parent and child and shows how he broke away to pursue a new life with the new family he created. It was not easy, and Roberts faced unbearable loss through the years. Nevertheless, this candid, charming adventure shows how he cherished the journey.

It is not our institutions that are broken - it is our politics. We have a Republic our Founding Fathers never intended, where unlimited campaign contributions and Congressional seniority keep Americans from having a real say in our government. Disunity and hyperpartisanship keep this system in place. It is time to change all that. When our elected leaders fail us, when corporations call the shots and make the laws, who is left to make it right? No one but all of us. This book takes a hard look at today's politics - the profits and power to be made through keeping citizens uninformed and at each other's throats. It talks in real terms about the cost of disunity, the meaning of citizenship, and our civic duty - to each other and the nation. What the country needs now isn't change. It needs to re-discover the founding principles of the Republic. Its citizens need to take hold of the government by way of public opinion and voting, and make our government work as it was originally intended.
From Newlywed to Foreverwed: A Guide to Preparing for Your Marriage Like Planning for Your Wedding
Most couples spend a lot of time and money to have the perfect wedding. But do they invest wisely to have the perfect marriage? For most couples, the first two years of marriage are the most challenging as they adjust to the many changes brought about by "tying the knot." An alarmingly high divorce rate speaks to the difficulties faced by newlyweds who want to remain "foreverwed." While the many areas addressed by common pre-marital handbooks are important, From Newlywed to Foreverwed makes the case that giving one another the wedding gift that really matters - their strongest, healthiest selves - offers couples the best chance to weather the storms life brings them. In this thoughtful and entertaining book, Stacey Steck helps newlyweds recognize and respond effectively to the inevitable anxiety generated by the union of not only the bride and groom, but more importantly, of two great clans - their families. Questions at the end of the twenty-five short, engaging chapters lead couples into conversations about the families from which they come, and how to manage their emotions when the reasons most commonly cited for divorce, the "Big Three" of money, sex, and in-laws, intrude upon their bliss. Partners who know how to manage their anxiety, define themselves, and stay emotionally connected with others, can overcome any challenge. In addition to being an excellent resource for couples motivated to do everything they can to stay "foreverwed," this book makes a wonderful gift for newly engaged couples who might be too busy planning the perfect wedding to shop for a book on planning the perfect marriage. It also makes a great companion to pre-marital preparation offered by religious organizations, especially those which emphasize a family systems approach to premarital counseling.

Have you ever wondered when going through security, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), how those pictures of weapons and other objects made it through security undetected? When going through those metal detectors, have you ever questioned if they really work? Or why certain people get patted down and some do not? Is it random? This book is not only going to reveal some shocking truths but makes you think long and hard about our national aviation security and how we are being manipulated to feel secure in a veil of deception. Let us start with the frontline employees as they are misusing their privileges by compromising airport security policies and procedures by funneling contraband, weapons, drugs, and prohibited items through security checkpoints and/or employee access points. Did you know that? September 11 gave the national aviation industry a huge sense of protection by imposing security taxes on the public traveling tickets to support the newly created agencies namely the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The 9/11 terrorist attacks took a major toll on the aviation industry creating multiple mergers and bankruptcies which caused the remaining airlines and airports an ulterior means for survival. Reduce overhead and succumb to contracting out the frontline workforce to independent contractors. This course of action also diminished the rigorous training frontline employees need with strict requirements of policies, processes, and compliance. Not to mention recurrent training to ensure the traveling public safe. In this book, The Internal Threat: The Community Behind the Security Checkpoint, Dr. Stacey Tyler provides a qualitative study on the central research question that focuses on the degree to which miscommunication between TSA, airlines, and airport employees has an impact on the implementation of changes in airport security policies, particularly those regarding prohibited items that pass through security checkpoints. This behavior impacts the effective execution of airport security policies by federal law regarding carryon baggage on commercial aircraft that is specifically known as the Internal Threat.
Reading Sympathy in Romantic Literature

Reading Sympathy in Romantic Literature

When two people read together, what do they stand to learn not just about the book, but about each other? Representations of people reading together in Romantic literature often describe the act of sharing a book as a kind of litmus test of sympathy. Frequently, however, fictional readers end up misreading the text, or each other, or both. Stacey McDowell shows how Romantic writers, in questioning the assumptions lying behind the metaphorical sense of reading as sympathy, reflect on ideas of reading – its private or social nature and its capacity to foster fellow feeling – while also suggesting something about the literary qualities intrinsic to sympathy itself – its hermeneutic, narrative, and rhetorical strategies. She reveals what the literary portrayal of shared reading adds to histories of the book and moral philosophy, and how the effects of form and style aim to reproduce the shared experience of reading described.

There are many different types of decisions – from the important and life-changing to the mundane and everyday – but all are important for our functioning as humans. This book offers an accessible guide to the complex process of human decision-making, tailored for both undergraduate and graduate students. It combines recent research with real-life examples to provide a comprehensive understanding of the underlying biology of decision-making, its relationship to cognitive abilities such as working memory, executive function and attention, and its intersection with development. The book also explores applications and theories of decision-making, giving readers a broader perspective on the field. Presented in an accessible format with in-depth explanations, the work provides everything needed to build a strong basis of understanding of the underlying biology to the more complex topics of how decision-making develops and impacts on other behaviours. Discussion points are included throughout to encourage deeper reflection on the content covered.
