Teach Like a Queen explores teacher leadership like never before...This exciting and unique text brings together leadership theory, popular culture and action research to inspire and empower female teachers into leadership roles. Teach Like a Queen celebrates the successes of iconic women and translates their respective brilliance into becoming successful, dynamic and high-performing practitioners and educational leaders.Focusing on seven key inspirational women as archetypes, the authors address emerging professional issues which will benefit classroom practitioners and leaders, each correlating to a different Nolan principle and inspirational queen. Inspired by the incredible work of WomenEd, including a Foreword from Vivienne Porritt, each lesson features:a constructed definition of each respective icon and how that translates into the teaching profession;a case study exploring how a female school leader experienced her own Queen moment and the leadership lesson it taught her;key lessons for aspiring leaders; andtakeaway actions to channel your inner queen.Illustrating how a diverse cross-section of women personify the leadership strength of their assigned principle in practice, Teach Like a Queen will empower female teachers to aspire to lead and equip them with practical strategies to secure and fulfil leadership roles.

This book provides a clear introduction to the Mental Capacity Act (MCA, 2005), offering an easy reference guide to the complex issues enshrined within the Act to inform the everyday practice of those who need to perform within its parameters as part of their day-to-day work.Bringing together clinical neuropsychology expertise with legal commentary, the book introduces the main principles and presumptions of the MCA (2005) and describes the processes involved in the comprehensive assessment of what can, in practice, be complex issues. It provides learning summaries, flowcharts, checklists and web references for easy to access resources. The chapters also contain a broad range of illustrative case examples with considerable emphasis given to those areas of complexity that are not addressed in current guidance and which often prove contentious in everyday practice, such as how particular forms of brain injury can lead to hidden difficulties with decision-making which can be challenging to assess and evidence in practice. The book is essential reading for trainee nurses, doctors, paramedics, social workers, lawyers, psychologists and health and social care support workers, as well as experienced health and social care professionals such as ward managers and care and nursing home managers who face mental capacity issues in their day to day working role.

Crime in the Victorian Black Country

Whilst the Black Country had been the cradle of the industrial revolution, towards the end of nineteenth century, the prosperity of the region was at an end, and crime was on the increase. A mainly working-class population was having laws imposed upon it remotely, influenced by middle class morality and ethics. Crime in the Victorian Black Country looks at the crimes actually being committed in the Black Country towards the end of the nineteenth century. It considers attitudes towards the police in this geologically unique and neglected part of the country and offers possible reasons for it. It relates tales reported in the local press of the time reflecting the attitude of the ruling elite and the sort of behaviour they wanted to impose on the working classes, and the reaction to this. Crime is endlessly fascinating, the late Victorian view of criminals and the causes of crime, fairly well known, this work offers a view of the criminal behaviour of working-class people through an alternative lens.
