The contemporary German author W. G. Sebald was a master of the fiction of recollection and observation, often exploring the reverberations of World War II on the personal and collective memories of Germans and Jews. His rich body of work earned him legions of fans across the globe, but in the wake of his death in 2001, Sebald also became the subject of extensive critical study. Literary scholars have identified a number of subjects that frequently appear in Sebald's novels: the Holocaust, trauma and memory, melancholy, photography, travel, intertextuality, and the nature and meaning of home, but they have yet to locate an overarching narrative that ties these topics to the broader historical trajectories with which Sebald's work is also fundamentally concerned. In W. G. Sebald: Image, Archive, Modernity, J. J. Long identifies a wider "meta-problem" in Sebald's work--the problem of modernity. The numerous archival institutions and processes that lie at the heart of modernity are repeatedly explored in Sebald's novels. Photography, museums, libraries, and other institutions for producing and preserving knowledge are among Sebald's main obsessions. Following Foucault, these systems are seen as central to the exercise of power and the constitution of subjectivity, themes embodied in Sebald's melancholy search for autonomous selfhood in an increasingly impersonal and bureaucratized age. Considering the evocation of wonder in the prose narratives of Vertigo, family albums in The Emigrants, the ambulatory narrative in The Rings of Saturn, and the archival subject in Austerlitz, Long advances a highly original interpretation of the author's oeuvre, arguing that Sebald's project needs to be understood as a response not merely to post-Holocaust trauma but to the longer history of modernity.

This book contains poems, which depict the beauty of nature, emotions, dreams and feelings. A reader may find in them a reflection of a variety of the author s life experiences collected throughout her eventful life, and maybe recognize imprints of such moments from its own life: those cheerful and sorrowful, solemn and frivolous, melancolic and jocular, worthy of admiration or reflection, maybe even a change. Here is an excerpt from the reviewer of the same book in English, 'In Search of Feelings', on the amazon website: This is a collection of extraordinary poems by a woman not only 'In Search of (Her) Feelings', but also able to express them in beautiful similes and sensuous images, and willing to share them with her readers. Her feelings cover a wide range: from serious to funny, from romantic to desillusioned; sometimes they reach spiritual, even mystical, levels, often reflected in images from nature - panthers to insects, cherry blossom to forest lilies...' One of the most influential figures of the twentieth century, William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) is among the greatest poets to have written in the English language. He was a multi-talented writer, fascinated by the occult, an important dramatist, critic and autobiographer, with a career extending over more than fifty years. Professor Jeffares investigates the relationship between Yeats's life and his work. He considers the crucial moments as well as the famous relationships that changed Yeats's destiny. A founder of the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, Yeats was also a Senator of the Irish Free State. His life has provided a remarkably rich and varied canvas for this timeless biography.

This study reads Auden's poetry and plays through the shifts from modernism to postmodernism. It analyses the experiments in Auden's writings for their engagement with crucial contemporary problems: that of the individual in relation to others, loved ones, community, society, but also transcendental truths. It shows that rather than providing firm answers, Auden's poetry emphasises the absence of certainties. Yet far from becoming nihilistic, it generates hope, affection, and most importantly an ethical challenge of responsibility out of its discoveries.
W.A.R.: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose
A big, brash history of Guns n' Roses charismatic, talented and idiosyncratic leader "An archetypal rock biography that captures the runaway-train spirit of the singer and his band--You don't have to be a Guns N' Roses fanatic to dig this energetic, comprehensive, few-holds-barred portrait of modern metal's most charismatic figure."--Kirkus Reviews Even in the rock world, a figure like Axl Rose doesn't come along very often. Mercurial and brilliant, deluded and imperious, Rose defies easy description. W.A.R. reveals Rose's childhood influences (and how he got his name), tracks the birth of G n' R and delves into the stories behind their monster albums Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion. But with those successes came excesses--drugs, infighting and a lead singer who morphed from eccentric to seemingly unhinged. Journalist Mick Wall had unprecedented access to Rose and G n' R during their heyday and gives a more richly detailed portrait of the band than you've ever read before. W.A.R. has fresh views on: --the death of two fans at the Donington Park concert in England --Rose's fallout with all the other original G n' R band members, including Slash --fights with Kurt Cobain, Vince Neil and fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger --Rose's no-shows at concerts throughout his career --the lead singer's becoming a recluse at his Malibu mansion for most of the last fifteen years --the much-gossiped-about and long-awaited album Chinese Democracy

Axl Rose is one of rock's most colourful figures and yet his story has never been properly told until now. Mick Wall knew the original line-up of Guns N' Roses before they were famous and has interviewed them many times. Drawing on exclusive unpublished material he has written a no-holds-barred study of the turbulent life and career of the group's singer and leader. Wall describes Axl's difficult childhood in Indiana and how, after escaping to LA, he and his fledgling band struggled to survive until they signed up by Geffen in 1986. The first album, Appetite for Destruction, turned them into stars but the band's lurid lifestyle took its toll - they embarked on a two-year tour that sounded the death knell for the original line-up. As their lives slipped out of control, the original members bar Axl all left. Axl himself turned into an increasingly reclusive figure, working on the long-awaited Chinese Democracy album. In 2006 he re-emerged into public view as Guns N' Roses embarked on a world tour. Scrupulously researched and vividly written, W. Axl Rose is an explosive biography of one of rock's biggest living legends.
