After twenty years of fighting; first the rebels and then the Apaches, Jonas was tired of it all and decided to return to his unfinished cabin to find the solace and peace that he craved. Yet once he'd returned the place to a livable condition, he realized that life wasn't just about existing. He missed the camaraderie of the soldiers and he really wasn't cut out for the life of a hermit. So, Jonas decided to return to his duties as an army scout at Fort Selden. The cabin would still be waiting for him when he was ready. But by the time he reached the fort, he discovered that in the brief time he'd been gone, there had been changes, and some of them would almost make him regret his decision to leave his cabin.

Aaron hadn't been caught by surprise by the early arrival of the Nebraska blizzard in November, so after hunkering down for the night to wait out the snow and gale-like winds, he set out in the predawn to resume his trek across the plains to get to his ranch. While he may not have been surprised by the storm, he was soon stunned by what he discovered on the frozen ground southwest of Scotts Bluff.

I'm a fallen angel damned to walk the Earth alone with nothing but my own shame keeping me company. I've learned to accept my fate...until I cross paths with a demon hunter. The universe tries to convince me that the hunter is my soulmate. But I can't accept that. Not only is Ronin a demon hunter touched by angels, he's also human. The vessel that carries his soul isn't strong enough to survive our love. To survive me. No matter how hard I try to push him away, he's determined to prove that we can beat the odds against us. But I'm not willing to take that chance. What kind of being would that make me if I risked his life so I can escape my eternal loneliness-even just for a short while? Unfortunately, it seems that we might not have a choice. There's a threat looming over the Heavens, and it's up to Ronin and me to put a stop to Lucifer and his plan to gain power. But we're not strong enough. Not unless we solidify our bond and accept our fate by becoming one. In order to save the world, I need to risk the one man who managed to thaw my heart. If I don't...the world as we know it will be destroyed.

What is the complete essence of this book? The Cosmic Harmony of Science, Scripture, and Reason. Can it be indubitably proven that God absolutely exists? Can it really be shown how science actually confirms creation by God? Given that some say not even God can create something out of nothing, exactly how did God create everything in the universe? Just how can the Holy Bible be reliable and the divine Word of God when it is challenged with so much controversy? Can it be irrefutably verified that Jesus was for real, really rose from the dead, and is the Son of God? Did the Great Flood of Noah and his Ark really happen? How? Everybody wants to see proof. Atheists and skeptics often demand it.A total of twenty-one of the most often asked and difficult questions challenging Christianity are answered by coauthors C. J. Rysen, (author of the Christian apocalyptic thriller, a novel, In the Course of Three Hours (www.inthecourseofthreehours.com)), and Dan Manternach, a public speaker and leader in the Christian Group, Ministry to Men (www.ministrytomen.net).Both men have collaborated to provide irrefutable answers and explanations in a simple, easy-to-understand, straightforward way, providing new, unexpected, and intriguing perspectives to which you likely may have never given any thought. Many of these will be surprising and often startling to anyone-whether skeptic, agnostic, or atheist. The book is also intended to be a reference source for the layperson, as well as those with formal theological or philosophical education.Although this book is intended to address these questions for the benefit of the "nonbeliever," it also is intended to prepare the believer to help answer such questions and solidify their faith. If one is intellectually honest with oneself, the explanations in this book should be overwhelmingly compelling and absolutely convincing. If they are not, one must ask the question, "Why?"

Fundamentals of Glacier Dynamics

Fundamentals of Glacier Dynamics

C.J. van der Veen

CRC Press
2017
nidottu
Measuring, monitoring, and modeling technologies and methods changed the field of glaciology significantly in the 14 years since the publication of the first edition of Fundamentals of Glacier Dynamics. Designed to help readers achieve the basic level of understanding required to describe and model the flow and dynamics of glaciers, this second edition provides a theoretical framework for quantitatively interpreting glacier changes and for developing models of glacier flow. See What’s New in the Second Edition: Streamlined organization focusing on theory, model development, and data interpretationIntroductory chapter reviews the most important mathematical tools used throughout the remainder of the bookNew chapter on fracture mechanics and iceberg calvingConsolidated chapter covers applications of the force-budget technique using measurements of surface velocity to locate mechanical controls on glacier flowThe latest developments in theory and modeling, including the addition of a discussion of exact time-dependent similarity solutions that can be used for verification of numerical modelsThe book emphasizes developing procedures and presents derivations leading to frequently used equations step by step to allow readers to grasp the mathematical details as well as physical approximations involved without having to consult the original works. As a result, readers will have gained the understanding needed to apply similar techniques to somewhat different applications.Extensively updated with new material and focusing more on presenting the theoretical foundations of glacier flow, the book provides the tools for model validation in the form of analytical steady-state and time-evolving solutions. It provides the necessary background and theoretical foundation for developing more realistic ice-sheet models, which is essential for better integration of data and observations as well as for better model development.
Routledge Revivals: Gulliver and the Gentle Reader (1991)
Originally published in 1991, Gulliver and the Gentle Reader critically examines the writing of Jonathan Swift. The book is predominately concerned with what Rawson coins ‘the "unofficial" energies’ which work below the surface of Swift’s conscious themes. Alongside this discussion, Rawson provides detailed studies on historical, cultural and psychological relationships, and the connections that exist between these areas and more extreme writers of the later period such as Breton, Mailer, and Yeats, as well as the connections with the writers such as his contemporary Pope, and those that followed such as Johnson, and Sterne. This book will be of interest to students of literature, as well as those researching in the area of literature.

Roman Britain to Saxon England

Roman Britain to Saxon England

C.J. Arnold

There has long been controversy about the nature and pace of the transformation from Roman Britain to Saxon England. Some scholars argue that there were few instances of major conflict and that the transition took place relatively peacefully over a long period of time. Others argue that the Romano-Britains and the early Anglo-Saxon invaders lived side by side for a century or more with little contact. This book, based largely on archaeological evidence, presents an interpretive history of the transition period and demonstrates how Roman Britain evolved into Anglo-Saxon England over the fourth and fifth centuries. The emphasis is on the archaeological evidence because this is the physical and material legacy of man’s activities and, unlike the scanty written sources, is not a reflection of political events. The author argues that much of the past uncertainty about this crucial period stems from the sharply conflicting interpretations of the chronicles.

Consistency in Cognitive Social Behaviour

Consistency in Cognitive Social Behaviour

C.J. Mower White

Psychology Press Ltd
2015
sidottu
Social psychology remains unbalanced as long as we study human behaviour exclusively ‘from the outside’, leaving out of account people’s own reasons for acting as they do. Originally published in 1982, the result of the author’s emphasis on the cognitive dimension is a much more complete and well-rounded textbook of social psychology than had previously been available. Beginning with an exploration of the various models that have been suggested to explain the whole range of social behaviour, the book goes on to argue that consistency – comparability, similarity, congruity – is the principle by which social behaviour can best be explained. It goes into the cognitive processes that determine social attitudes, ascription of certain characteristics to individuals, and the attraction we feel to some people but not others. It also shows how these processes can be extended and affected by group membership. Consistency is important, the author believes, because it allows the maximum prediction of others’ behaviour and guidance of our own. These functions are demonstrated by observing failures of consistency, such as occur in humour and in negative self-esteem, and the author examines these inconsistencies in a final chapter.
