Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton (1808-1877) was an English author and social reformer. After Norton left her husband in 1836, he sued her friend and Prime Minister Lord Melbourne for adultery. Though the claim was thrown out of court, Norton was denied a divorce and access to her children. In response to this Norton campaigned vehemently, which eventually led to the historic passing of the Custody of Infants Act 1839, the Matrimonial Causes Act 1857, and the Married Women's Property Act 1870. This volume contains a collection of poems, essays, and biographical sketches related to Norton and her tremendous efforts in the fight for women's rights in England. Contents include: "Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton (Sheridan), by John W. Cousin", "Caroline Elizabeth Sarah Norton, by Richard Garnett", "Mrs. Norton, by William Bates", and "Caroline Norton, by Mabel Elizabeth Wotton". Notable works by this author include: "The Dandies Rout" (1825), "The Wife, and Woman's Reward" (1835), and "Stuart of Dunleath" (1851). Brilliant Women - Read & Co. is proudly publishing this brand new collection of classic essays now for the enjoyment of a new generation of readers.

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, Caroline is a true community and always has been. In 1795, the first two families came with horses and settled in permanently. The founding mother, Widow Earsley, and her children returned to the cabin that she and her oldest son had built the previous autumn, and Captain Rich and his family began work on their own abode. From these first families to those who followed, pulling together to make circumstances better for everyone has been an important facet of life in Caroline. Residents clustered in several hamlets, including Slaterville Springs, Speedsville, Caroline, and Motts Corners (now Brooktondale), and carved farms out of the wilderness between them. They built houses, churches, and businesses. Recreation included picnics, band concerts, baseball, the Grange, parades, and youth groups.

Caroline Hale has lived in Silver Falls, Vermont her entire life. The small town is quiet and safe and the only home Caroline has ever known. Nothing ever changes in Silver Falls. At least that's what Caroline thinks until it does. What she expected to be a typical summer, turns out to be one she will never forget when Adam DeLain suddenly returns to Silver Falls. Since they were kids, Adam and Caroline's brother have been best friends, but it's been years since Caroline has seen him, not since he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and embarked on a career in baseball, leaving his hometown behind. Caroline doesn't know why Adam has suddenly come home, but she knows neither of them is the same person they were all those years ago when Adam disappeared from their lives. He's no longer just her brother's best friend and she's no longer a little girl. What will happen when the worlds of a baseball player and a girl from the small town he left behind come together, truly seeing each other for the first time? Find out in Catching Caroline, the first book in the Silver Falls Series.

The vivid and dramatic life of Lady Caroline Lamb, whose scandalous love affair with Lord Byron overshadowed her own creativity and desire to break free from society's constraints. From the outset, Caroline Lamb had a rebellious nature. From childhood she grew increasingly troublesome, experimenting with sedatives like laudanum, and she had a special governess to control her. She also had a merciless wit and talent for mimicry. She spoke French and German fluently, knew Greek and Latin, and sketched impressive portraits. As the niece of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, she was already well connected, and her courtly skills resulted in her marriage to the Hon. William Lamb (later Lord Melbourne) at the age on nineteen. For a few years they enjoyed a happy marriage, despite Lamb's siblings and mother-in-law detesting her and referring to her as 'the little beast'. In 1812 Caroline embarked on a well-publicised affair with the poet Lord Byron - he was 24, she 26. Her phrase 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' became his lasting epitaph. When he broke things off, Caroline made increasingly public attempts to reunite. Her obsession came to define much of her later life, as well as influencing her own writing - most notably the Gothic novel Glenarvon - and Byron's. Antonia Fraser's vividly compelling biography animates the life of 'a free spirit' who was far more than mad, bad and dangerous to know.
