This book examines the phenomenon of school shootings to critically and objectively search for ways to minimize or stop these incidences. It examines the profiles and tactics of the shooters themselves, looks at suggestions for defending the schools and classrooms, and offers some compromise regulations requiring compromise by all to, in the short term, minimize the occurrences. But it also suggests that such simple answers are not even addressing the real root causes of the problem and to do that we have to look in the most uncomfortable of places... ourselves.

Le stockage cryog nique est couteux en nergie, quipement et en maintenance du mat riel g n tique est g n ralement soumis aux risques de contamination et de d gradation en cas de panne ou de coupure d' lectricit . L'objectif g n ral de cette tude tait d' valuer la stabilit du mat riel g n tique et la p rennisation des g nes de r sistances d tecter par l'antibiogramme apr s la conservation temp rature ambiante. Pour ce faire, 38 souches d'Escherichia coli isol es des effluents d'abattoir de bovins et de volailles ont t utilis es. Le niveau de r sistance aux antibiotiques des souches a t d termin travers un antibiogramme. Deux types d'extraction ont t r alis s, l'une au thiocyanate de guanidine et l'autre au Kit Qiagen suivi d'une quantification de l'ADN avant et apr s la conservation diff rentes temp ratures savoir la temp rature ambiante du laboratoire et l'azote liquide.

Blair and Hitchens melded the practical experiences of universities with more theoretical understandings of technology transfer to assess whether it is more effective for universities to make commercial use of their research themselves as opposed to licensing, whether this is an effective way to get research applied by industry and the economic implications of these decisions. Drawing on the experiences of 25 universities, of which 18 are in the UK and Ireland, and including a detailed study of the QUBIS Group from Queen’s University of Belfast, the authors explore universities’ deliberate commercial exploitation of their research through university spin-off companies, the potential stresses on staff who are simultaneously academics and entrepreneurs along with universities’ attitudes to the practice and possible managerial strategies.
