In the complicated interaction between sport and law, much isrevealed about the perception and understanding of consent andtolerable deviance. When a football player steps onto the field, whatdeviations from the rules of the game are considered acceptable? Andwhat risks has the player already accepted by voluntarily participatingin the sport? In the case of Canadian football, acts of on-fieldviolence, hazing, and performance-enhancing drug use that would beconsidered criminal outside the context of sport are tolerated and evenpromoted by team and league administrators. The manner in which leaguereview committees and the Canadian legal system understand such actionshighlights the challenges faced by those looking to protect playersfrom the dangers of the sport. Although there has been some discussionof legal and institutional reforms dealing with crime and deviance inCanadian sport, little exists in the way of sports law, with most casesfalling into the legal categories of criminal, administrative, or civillaw. In Game-Day Gangsters, Fogel argues for a review of thesystems by which Canadian football is governed and analyzes the reformsproposed by football leagues and by players. Juxtaposing material frominterviews with football players and administrators and from mediafiles and legal cases, he explores the discrepancies between theplayers' own experiences and the institutional handling ofdisciplinary matters in junior, university, and professional footballleagues across the country.
Academic disciplines have remained largely committed to research methods and methodologies that hinge on simplistic binaries and problematic dichotomies. Despite this historical and contemporary trend in interdisciplinary research, there have been some notable advances in innovative approaches to method and methodology. With the recent growth in these advances, there is an increasing need for texts that document contemporary, innovative approaches to research. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, this edited compilation of essays charts some of the developing innovative trends in research methods and methodologies that transcend boundaries between: 1) quantitative and qualitative methods, 2) theory and method, 3) method and methodology, and 4) researcher and research participant. The overall aim of this book is to provide a guide for contemporary interdisciplinary researchers to explore the social world in imaginative ways by moving beyond the singular, definite, discipline-specific research approaches of the past towards the more flexible, creative research approaches of the present.

The Industrial Revolution has escalated into all-out warfare. It has been eighteen years since the Heterodyne Boys, benevolent adventurers and inventors, disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Today, Europe is ruled by the Sparks, dynasties of mad scientists ruling over -- and terrorizing -- the hapless population with their bizarre inventions and unchecked power, while the downtrodden dream of the Hetrodynes' return. At Transylvania Polygnostic University, a pretty, young student named Agatha Clay seems to have nothing but bad luck. Incapable of building anything that actually works, but dedicated to her studies, Agatha seems destined for a lackluster career as a minor lab assistant. But when the University is overthrown by the ruthless tyrant Baron Klaus Wulfenbach, Agatha finds herself a prisoner aboard his massive airship Castle Wulfenbach -- and it begins to look like she might carry a spark of Mad Science after all. Skyhorse Publishing, under our Night Shade and Talos imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of titles for readers interested in science fiction (space opera, time travel, hard SF, alien invasion, near-future dystopia), fantasy (grimdark, sword and sorcery, contemporary urban fantasy, steampunk, alternative history), and horror (zombies, vampires, and the occult and supernatural), and much more. Intrigue Subterfuge Circus Folk In a time when the Industrial Revolution has escalated into all-out warfare, mad science rules the world... with mixed success. With the help of Krosp, Emperor of All Cats, Agatha has escaped from the massive airship known as Castle Wulfenbach. After crashing their escape dirigible, Agatha and Krosp fall in with Master Payne's Circus of Adventure, a traveling troupe of performers dedicated to staging Heterodyne shows--dramatizations of the exploits of Bill and Barry Heterodyne and their allies--who are unaware of Agatha's connection to the Heterodyne line. Pursued by the ruthless Baron Klaus Wulfenbach, his handsome son Gil, and their minions (not to mention Othar Tryggvassen, Gentleman Adventurer), Agatha hides in plain sight among the circus folk, servicing their clanks and proving herself adept in performing the role of Lucrezia Mongfish, nemesis to--and later wife of--Barry Heterodyne. She also begins training under Zeetha, swordmistress and princess of the lost city of Skifander. Together, Agatha, Krosp, and the performers travel across the treacherous wasteland of war-torn Europa, towards Mechanicsburg, and the ancestral home of the Heterodynes--Castle Heterodyne. But with many perils standing in her way--including Wulfenbach's crack troops, mysterious Geisterdamen, savage J germonsters, and the fabled Storm King--it's going to take more than a spark of Mad Science for Agatha to get through... From Phil and Kaja Foglio, creators of the multiple WCCA and Hugo Award-winning webcomic Girl Genius, comes Agatha H and the Clockwork Princess, a gaslamp fantasy filled to bursting with Adventure Romance And Mad Science Skyhorse Publishing, under our Night Shade and Talos imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of titles for readers interested in science fiction (space opera, time travel, hard SF, alien invasion, near-future dystopia), fantasy (grimdark, sword and sorcery, contemporary urban fantasy, steampunk, alternative history), and horror (zombies, vampires, and the occult and supernatural), and much more. Nothing But reveals the disruptions-welcome or unsettling-to our stream of consciousness that occur when we encounter the unexplainable. In these poems, such suspensions of linear thought become a beckoning toward transcendence, an opening both deeper into, and out beyond, our perceptions in an otherwise prescribed world.
The emphasis in this collection of poetry is on the woman's voice in the Bible, for women, more than men, remain voiceless in the Bible's narrative. While some of the poems are in a whimsical or humorous mood, many of them display the existential aloneness at the heart of these Biblical characters, a feeling with which many of us can identify. Seventeen original line-drawings by the artist, Chana Helen Rosenberg, inspired by these poems, enhance this volume with a unique graphic dimension.

This book is based on the well-established book Biology of Spiders but is completely updated. It focuses on the biology and natural history of spiders in general - it does not deal with the identification of spiders. Virtually all aspects of spider biology are covered, from anatomy and physiology to neurobiology and behavior, or from spider venom to prey capture, and from silk production to complex web construction. The book will appeal not only to spider enthusiasts, professional arachnologists and zoologists, but to anyone with an interest in biology. It is written in a clear and straightforward style, making it easy to read for the general reader.

This book provides accessible, comprehensive guidance on service design and enables practitioners approaching the discipline for the first time to develop the strategic mindset needed to exploit its innovation potential. The opening chapters trace the origins of service design and examine its links with service innovation, as well as its strategic role in service organizations. It then offers step-by-step guidance on tackling a service design project, explaining the main design elements and indications of various useful design tools. It also introduces the topic of evaluation as a support practice in designing or redesigning better services, and providing evidence concerning the value of service design interventions. The third chapter explores how evaluation is currently approached in service design practice through the analysis of a number of case studies. Based on these experiences it extensively discusses evaluation, with a particular focus on service evaluation, and explains its importance in supporting service design and fostering innovation throughout the service design process. Further it describes pragmatic directions for setting up and conducting a service evaluation strategy. The concluding chapter uses an interpretive model to summarize the role evaluation could have in service design practice and focuses on interdisciplinary competences that need to be acquired by service designers in order to address the evolution of the discipline. The novel approach adopted in the book fosters the growing interest in design-driven service innovation and assists in realizing its full potential in both the private and the public sector.
CGAL Arrangements and Their Applications

Arrangements of curves constitute fundamental structures that have been intensively studied in computational geometry. Arrangements have numerous applications in a wide range of areas – examples include geographic information systems, robot motion planning, statistics, computer-assisted surgery and molecular biology. Implementing robust algorithms for arrangements is a notoriously difficult task, and the CGAL arrangements package is the first robust, comprehensive, generic and efficient implementation of data structures and algorithms for arrangements of curves. This book is about how to use CGAL two-dimensional arrangements to solve problems. The authors first demonstrate the features of the arrangement package and related packages using small example programs. They then describe applications, i.e., complete standalone programs written on top of CGAL arrangements used to solve meaningful problems – for example, finding the minimum-area triangle defined by a set of points, planning the motion of a polygon translating among polygons in the plane, computing the offset polygon, finding the largest common point sets under approximate congruence, constructing the farthest-point Voronoi diagram, coordinating the motion of two discs moving among obstacles in the plane, and performing Boolean operations on curved polygons. The book contains comprehensive explanations of the solution programs, many illustrations, and detailed notes on further reading, and it is supported by a website that contains downloadable software and exercises. It will be suitable for graduate students and researchers involved in applied research in computational geometry, and for professionals who require worked-out solutions to real-life geometric problems. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with the C++ programming-language and with the basics of the generic-programming paradigm.
