RAF Kit Through the Ages

RAF Kit Through the Ages

Lee Chapman; Jed Jaggard

KEY PUBLISHING LTD

Innovations in kit and personal equipment have evolved to keep pace with the ever-improving technology and performance of aircraft. Over the last one hundred years, aviation has gone through some considerable changes, and as aircraft designs improved, so too did the kit used by pilots and crew. Many of these changes were driven by safety. As aircraft flew faster and higher, the pressure placed on the pilots increased. Aircrew needed protection from the elements, high altitude and the effects of G. It features detailed studies of the kit in isolation and also showcases kit in the correct historical context, including authentic re-enactments with aircraft of the period. With over 120 images, this book aims to tell the story of RAF kit development using brand new images of original and authentic replica kit, as it would have been worn by RAF aircrew throughout history.

This book is all about kindness behaviour training (KBT). The authors have drawn on their clinical experience as well as Buddhism to develop a practical course in cultivating kindness, intended to complement and augment other mindfulness-based approaches. They are now presenting this training in an eight-week course book. Amid the recent explosion of secular mindfulness, their aim is to reemphasize the importance of the heart, introducing the reader to a variety of ways of approaching kindness-based meditation, as well as to how to put kindness into practice in daily life.A range of psychological theories and areas of research inform the KBT approach, primarily findings from cognitive neuroscience, as well as evolutionary and positive psychology literatures. It also uses a range of exercises found to be helpful in Eastern traditions, such as Buddhism. The KBT exercises have been isolated from their religious or spiritual origins and are used on a secular basis. The book will act as a companion, walking the reader through each week of the course offering guidance, reflections, and outlining the exercises in a concise user-friendly style.Worksheets and homework tasks to be completed into the book for each week will make the book interactive and accessible. Led meditations will be available to be downloaded by a KBT website.

1969 stood as the final year of a tumultuous decade, shattering domestic tranquility with epic events and cultural upheaval. On the fiftieth anniversary of 1969, eight authors share their coming-of-age experiences, vivid memories, and lessons learned from that raucous, electrifying year. What makes 1969 compelling? The authors invite you to join them and "take the trip back."In January, The Beatles gave their final public performance on the rooftop of Apple Corps in London. In July, NASA's Apollo 11 space mission launched Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong beyond earth's gravitational grip to a successful moon landing, fulfilling President John Kennedy's inaugural pledge "to go to the moon in this decade."In August, Woodstock attracted over 400,000 rock 'n' roll fans, hippies, peaceniks, and sixties' music icons to a three-day countercultural gathering. The Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam, in October, was the largest peaceful protest of a war in American history, flooding the nation's capital and including more than 2,000,000 antiwar protesters nationwide. As the decade closed, the war raged on. Just months into the following year, the Kent State shootings shook the nation, bringing violent suppression of free expression to a U.S. college campus.Joining lead author Brent Green in this writing alliance are veteran authors Carol Orsborn, PhD., David Cogswell, Robert William Case, Bob Moses, Jed Diamond, PhD., Greg Dobbs, and Richard Adler.1969: Are You Still Listening? delivers their eyewitness accounts, personal tales, uncommon confessions, and fact-based fictional stories. The book merges documentary-style reporting with creative exploration, capturing the perspectives of journalists, fiction and nonfiction writers, and social and political commentators. One question resonates throughout the book: Are you still listening? The book inspires contemplation about our social and political progress fifty years later. Do we see greater national unity today? Do we hear lingering discord? Do we sense progress toward equal treatment and opportunity for all?For those who experienced 1969 firsthand, this book will stir memories and invite reflection about a momentous year. For those who were born later and are curious about the myths and realities of 1969, the book reveals truths concerning a rebellious time and an engaged generation that proclaimed a new vision for America.

Called to Heal the Brokenhearted

In this stirring book, William H. Barnwell tells the stories of prison inmates and the Kairos Prison Ministry volunteers who work with them. Set mostly at the huge Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, Barnwell's narrative illustrates how offenders who have done the worst can and do change, becoming model inmates and, if released, productive citizens. The stories also reveal how Kairos volunteers have found healing for broken hearts.Given that the United States incarcerates more people per capita than any country in the world, reformers are seeking radically new ways to reduce our prison populations. Kairos volunteers and inmates alike have much to contribute to the ongoing reform discussions. Now serving 300 state and federal prisons, 30,000 Kairos volunteers work with 20,000 inmates each year. They take part in long weekend retreats with the inmates and follow up with regular prison visits. Since its beginning in 1976, Kairos has served over 250,000 inmates. Broad-based, nondenominational, and nonjudgmental Christian, Kairos seeks to carry out its slogan - ""listen, listen, love, love"" - among inmates who have had few to listen to them, and fewer still to love them.In Called to Heal the Brokenhearted are stories of undeniable redemption. They point the way to personal transformation for the inmates and the volunteers. One Kairos inmate speaks of the change this way: he makes guitars out of the good wood ""hidden beneath the surface"" of throwaway pianos. ""I find my work incredibly fulfilling,"" he says. ""I see myself in every piano, discarded by society but redeemed and put to use in a new way.
