Wracked by fever, tormented by boils, devastated by the loss of his entire family, the wretched Job cries out to the heavens. Why has God forsaken him? Who do such things happen here on earth? Why is the universe so flawed? Why are human beings subjected to such agonizing torments? He shakes his fist at the sky and demands a personal audience. His agony has given him the questions. He insists on hearing the answers from the mouth of God.Together, the novel as well as an accompanying reflective journal and planning notebook comprise the seventeenth installment in an ongoing novel-writing project by author John Passfield in which he explores the concept of form and meaning in the novel, and of the novel as a form of expression in the 21st century. All of the published journals and notebooks are available for free download on the author's website at www.johnpassfield.ca.
The book of Job, found in the Old Testament of the Bible, contains the story of a man who suffers the loss of his children, wealth, health, and reputation.Job's Response retells the biblical account of Job's prayers and conversations in the aftermath of his calamity. The original story is closely followed, using quotations from the Bible to keep it on the rails. Ties to the rest of the Bible are introduced.Job experiences the grief that naturally results from his loss. He mourns. He seeks God, his sovereign Lord, who brought this calamity into his life.Friends, who come alongside with good intentions, become less than helpful.Job believes that God loves and defines him, according to divine purpose and desire. As he reaches out with unvarnished honesty, he disentangles emotions, hindrances, and contradictions. Along the way, he finds healing and once again embraces life.James, the brother of Jesus Christ, reflects on Job's example with these words: "You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy."Job's response to life is a biblical gold standard, displaying his perseverance, his identity, his engagement with others, and his process of healing. He exemplifies love, faith, courage, good character, and intimacy with God.

After spending many years in corporate business. It never ceased to astound me as to the lack of knowledge or ability of young adults looking for employment. Some would appear for interviews as if like 'rabbits in the headlights' not even knowing the very basic answers to many simple employment questions. This I found even more frustrating when later working in a voluntary capacity with a government funded organisation, helping to secure work for youngsters. After suggesting a weekly 'Job Club' I delivered a weekly 'Job Ready' programme that over a very short space of time became very was successful in getting many of these youngsters not only into work but with a better understanding of themselves as well as greater knowledge of the recruitment process. It was on the back of this programme that it was suggested there is a need for this to help not only young adults but to also assist with anyone who is need of help and direction to secure employment. This short video may help to clarify the story behind the book and how it can help you.https: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VQ09_ZW2cg&t=8s
