Japan's National Security
Peter J. Katzenstein; Nobuo Okawara
Cornell University East Asia Program
2010
pokkari
Japan's National Security offers a detailed examination of Japan's distinctive security policy. It traces in considerable detail the evolution of Japan's approach to the economic, political and military dimensions of national structures of government as well as a particular set of relations between state and society. One of the noteworthy aspects of this book is its detailed attention to the transnational links between the Japanese and the American militaries. The book accords a special place of the interaction between the legal and social norms that have affected Japanese conceptions of national security since 1945. Japan's National Security offers an important, meticulously researched, and up-to-date perspective on the role that Japan is likely to play after the Cold War. Together with Defending the Japanese State, these two monographs analyze the structures and norms that are shaping Japan's policy on internal and national security. The specific focus is on governmental, state-society and transnational structures as well as the social and legal norms that affect the policies of Japan's police and self-defense forces.

The Law School Bible is for anyone who aspires to become a lawyer, but cannot pursue a traditional law school education. Most often, people abandon their dreams of becoming lawyers because of: * Work schedules that prevent them from attending classes on a regular basis * Family commitments that prevent them from attending out-of-town law schools * Tendency to perform poorly on standardized tests such as the LSAT * Low Grade Point Average (GPA) * Incomplete undergraduate credits. * Inability to secure financial resources * Unwillingness to amass enormous student loans As The Law School Bible shows, none of these barriers should end your dreams of entering the legal profession.
In this fresh and stimulating study, several of today's most provocative Reformed theologians combine efforts to work toward a better understanding of the Covenant.Steve Wilkins writes, "Covenant is the central teaching of the Word of God; it describes a relationship with the Triune God through Jesus Christ, His only Begotten Son. To be in covenant is to be in real communion with God, attendant with real privileges and real blessings. It is to be brought into the circle of the eternal fellowship that has always existed between Father, Son, and Spirit. It is to be made partaker of the divine nature. It is to be beloved of the Father for the sake of His Son and is founded upon union with Christ."
Visible Saints is the story of colonial Connecticut in microcosm. Through seven generations, the village of West Haven struggled to win its freedom from New Haven. What it earned instead was a reputation as the problem child of the Puritan Order. In a sharply divided community of Puritan saints and Anglican dissenters, West Haven's curious blend of religion and politics proved to be an explosive mix that paved the road to Revolution. As a shoreline community with a front-row seat to the war, West Haven suffered a series of enemy assualts that changed the village forever. Visible Saints is a fascinating study of a unique Connecticut community that will be valued by students and general readers alike for its scholarship and as history well told. (257 pp. 68 illustrations, annotated, bibliography, and index). Winner of Connecticut Society of Genealogists' Best Book Award.
ible-reading is more of an art than a science. The Bible is a story, not a lexicon of systematic theological definitions. With this in mind, the Through New Eyes Bible Commentary Series builds on the foundational Biblical-theology work of James B. Jordan and other like-minded scholars in bringing you a set of commentaries that will help you read, teach and preach through the Bible while picking up on the rich symphonic themes and the literary symbolism of the Scriptures. Because they are written for thoughtful Christians without being overly academic, these commentaries will serve as valuable resources for family worship, Sunday school or Bible studies.
