This book discusses some rituals of justice—such as public executions, printed responses to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s execution speech, and King Charles I’s treason trial—in early modern England. Focusing on the ways in which genres shape these events’ multiple voices, I analyze the rituals’ genres and the diverse perspectives from which we must understand them. The execution ritual, like such cultural forms as plays and films, is a collaborative production that can be understood only, and only incompletely, by being alert to the presence of its many participants and their contributions. Each of these participants brings a voice to the execution ritual, whether it is the judge and jury or the victim, executioner, sheriff and other authorities, spiritual counselors, printer, or spectators and readers. And each has at least one role to play. No matter how powerful some institutions and individuals may appear, none has a monopoly over authority and how the events take shape on and beyond the scaffold. The centerpiece of the mid-seventeenth-century’s theatre of death was the condemned man’s last dying utterance. This study focuses on the words and contexts of many of those final speeches, including King Charles I’s (1649), Archbishop William Laud’s (1645), and the Earl of Strafford’s (1641), as well as those of less well known royalists and regicides. Where we situate ourselves to view, hear, and comprehend a public execution—through specific participants’ eyes, ears, and minds or accounts—shapes our interpretation of the ritual. It is impossible to achieve a singular, carefully indoctrinated meaning of an event as complex as a state-sponsored public execution.Along with the variety of voices and meanings, the nature and purpose of the rituals of justice maintain a significant amount of consistency in a number of eras and cultural contexts. Whether the focus is on the trial and execution of the Marian martyrs, English royalists in the 1640s and 1650s, or the Restoration’s regicides, the events draw on a set of cultural expectations or conventions. Because rituals of justice are shaped by diverse voices and agendas, with the participants’ scripts and counterscripts converging and colliding, they are dramatic moments conveying profound meanings. The author, P. J. Day and his two brothers and two sisters grew up in the magical valley of Tesuque, located just outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico. One of the family pets was a one-year-old little gray burro named Pedro. While reminiscing about that marvelous childhood Christmas Day in 2001, P. J. wrote a short poem for his daughter Jordyn, placing Pedro smack-dab in the middle of the first Christmas. A Burro's Tale evolved from that poem conceived on Christmas Day, 2001. The setting for A Burro's Tale is in fact the Tesuque Valley. Raphael's family business in the story is renting out his burros to the townsfolk who do not have a burro of their own. The burros are rented for travel, pulling carts, plowing fields, and carrying goods from the market. Pedro, the central character in A Burro's Tale, is younger and a bit smaller than the rest of the burros and has not yet been chosen for his first day of work. Pedro's journey throughout the story is really about the coming of age that all youngsters eventually face and learning to take his responsibilities seriously. Kids can be cruel, and Pedro's peer group in the story is no different. In order to gain acceptance, he must learn to ignore the relentless teasing from the other burros on the ranch (and a couple of mischievous horseflies) and work very hard to prove his worth. The story is filled with many valuable life lessons that all kids and young adults will relate to, because they will all go through them one day, or are being tested at this very moment. At all cost, it's about doing the right thing.

A Burro's Tale is the story of one young burro and the important job he performs that gains him the acceptance from the other working burros in the stable and places him at the heart of perhaps the most famous story ever told. The setting for this story is Old Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the surrounding valleys. Jerusalem, for the purposes of this story, has been transformed into Old Santa Fe; and the story has a warm Hispanic blanket wrapped around it.On one particular year, Raphael's burros had all been rented, with the exception of Pedro. That is, until Joseph and Maria arrive in need of a burro to assist them on their journey. Pedro's first job is a very, very important one and he unexpectedly winds up smack-dab in the middle of the first Christmas. This beautifully illustrated toddlers version of the story was developed from the full length paperback of A Burro's Tale. In later years, you may wish to introduce the full-length paperback to your child, and they should have a comforting familiarity with the story that will date back to this toddler's version.

How Do You Handle Change, Perception, and Attitude?

Life throws each of us curves, and there are times these curves can damage us for life. Some curves stem out of our childhood, siblings, and so-called friends. There are so much envy, jealousy, and hatred among those who smile in our faces day to day. There comes a time when we have to say enough is enough, no more feeling sorry for ourselves, no more regrets, no more comparison with others, and no more allowing people taking charge over us. We must not let our past rule us. We must not let rejection hinder us from trusting, loving, and forgiving. We must show kindness, compassion, and love; and we must open our hearts to receive kindness, compassion, and love. Why continue to go through life in denial putting up a mask over our hearts and minds? We must see ourselves as special, unique, appreciated, and loving. Let the queen and king in you shine. Allow yourself to love and be loved. Always put an effort to be the best version of yourself first to yourself and let that flow out to others. These writings are not just for encouragement to you; they are also for reflection of how you can start renewing your mind and opening your heart to the real you. Just because you failed before doesn't mean you must stop trying. Change is inevitable in life. Some people handle change in a positive manner, and some do not. In order to have change in a positive manner, we first have to change our thinking. We must be willing and teachable and adapt to be big and better. When we choose to fight change, we are not willing to see the big picture for something better. Change for some takes time to equate their thinking, actions, and perception. When we are set in our ways, we tend to be stubborn and suspicious of authority of people and new ideas. Change sometimes makes people feel like it is an attack on their ability or performance. They are unable to adapt to constructive criticism which is not the case in the majority of the time. When there is a new administration, there will be changes with new ideas on the operation, duties, and opportunities. When there is a new person in our lives, we tend to immediately think that they have hidden motives rather than accept that they bring a positive change that we have not seen before. The wrong perception can hinder us from seeing the positive change that they bring to our lives. Adapting to change is up to you. Ask yourself, "What do you want? What do you want to accomplish?" These are questions only you can answer. Be honest with your answer and then put your all into adapting to making your life better. If there are areas in your life you need to change, start making those changes. The question are, "How do you handle change?" Do you handle it with anticipation for a new beginning or with dread? What perception are you bringing forth? What attitude are you displaying?

You ll find all original short stories and poetic tales suitable as musical lyrics. Some items were written as far back at the 1970's The otherwise non-descript book cover photograph depicts two "American Banzai" trees (NYC) which are from 1986, so that's 35 years ago If left to grow freely, this vegetation would grow to be much higher & larger than even the other tree in the background. Each tree is about 4.5 feet tall, and has been trimmed periodically since these were mere twigs. The "lesson" here is that we humans can 'control' to an extent, but nature per se remains as the overarching & "uncertain" factor.
