"The racially diverse cast and the worldbuilding surrounding the magic system... provide a unique backdrop for Kiwi author Valley's witty and buoyant debut." -- Publishers Weekly starred review What happens when your enemy becomes your friend ... with benefits? Red, White and Royal Blue meets The Magicians in this surprising, wildly original and joyously funny LGBTQ YA novel set in a magical boarding school. Tim Te Maro and Elliott Parker - classmates at Fox Glacier High School for the Magically Adept - have never gotten along. But when they both get dumped the day before the big egg-baby assignment, they reluctantly decide to ditch their exes and work together. When the two boys start to bond over their magically enchanted egg-baby, they realize that beneath their animosity is something like friendship ... or physical attraction. Soon, a no-strings-attached hook-up seems like a good idea. Just for the duration of the assignment. After all, they don't have feelings for each other ... so what could possibly go wrong? From debut Kiwi author H.S. Valley, the latest winner of the Ampersand Prize, comes this gleefully addictive romantic comedy that's perfect for fans of Rainbow Rowell and David Levithan. In a word - it's magic.

This is a PAPERBACK BOOK. And it is ram-jammed full of poems by KEY. Originally it was conceived and sold as a hardback book. Increasingly KEY has agitated for that brute to be superseded by something more chic; a slimmer, more athletic version that one can slide into a pocket or down a rugby sock. And now here it is.Within its featherweight pages you will find the vast majority of the same poems as you'll find in its unwieldy predecessor. Poems skewering such thorny issues as sex, pancakes, footy and vodka. But, in order to drum up renewed interest, KEY has also added a new poem. And there are also seven new introductions. And KEY has also been allowed to waddle round the text with his Lamy fountain pen, altering and updating. Improving. Making everything just so. For this: THE PAPERBACK.

The Cracking the ABC Code Learn to Read series has been designed to help children develop decoding and fluency skills. The books teach children 200 key words (taken from the Dolch list), representing 70% of our everyday language. These key words may or may not be words that children can decode given their current phonic knowledge, but are words that are frequently used and consequently important to learn in order to achieve reading fluency. The words are introduced in sets of 20 with the same key words used in different sentence structures multiple times throughout two consecutive books (e.g., Books 1 & 2, Books 3 & 4, etc). Once key words have been introduced, they are continually used throughout the series. In addition to the key words, each book uses decodable content words which children can read using their phonic knowledge. It is expected that children using the Learn to Read series already have a good grasp of the alphabet and can easily blend these sounds into words (e.g., can, fun). Each book focuses on a different digraph (e.g., ch, sh, th) and the introduction of these digraphs match the Cracking the ABC Code Multisensory Reading Level 2 books. Again, this knowledge is cumulative in that once a digraph has been introduced words containing those digraphs will continue to be used in subsequent books. Book 1 introduces the 'sh' digraph.

Packed full of zingers and hilarious illustrations, if this doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will. What's not to like:The other day someone left a piece of plasticine in my dressing room. I didn't know what to make of it. I'm against hunting. I'm actually a hunt saboteur. I go out the night before and shoot the fox. I saw this bloke chatting up a cheetah. He was trying to pull a fast one. Black holes. I don't know what people see in them. So I fancied a game of darts with my mate. He said, 'Nearest the bull goes first.' He went 'Baah' and I went 'Moo'. He said 'You're closest.' Velcro. What a rip-off. Black Beauty. He's a dark horse. I've got a sponge front door. Hey, don't knock it.
