This book discusses the cutting-edge intersection of Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) and research on building occupants. It presents an innovative way of using IVR to revolutionise the comprehension of human-dimension responses to indoor built environments. A robust, innovative, and sequential protocol is defined and validated with a Virtual Environment against a real-world counterpart to provide readers with methodological approaches suitable for carrying out rigorous experimental research in building occupant research. This comprehensive guide provides also practical applications of the proposed guidelines to show the potential and effectiveness of IVR for conducting studies in different indoor environmental conditions in a multi-sensory approach. The book serves as a resource for researchers who want to exploit the full potential of VR in collecting reliable data useful for understanding human dimensions within built environments.

Immersive Theatre and Audience Experience

Immersive Theatre and Audience Experience

Rose Biggin

Springer International Publishing AG

This book is the first full-length monograph to focus on Punchdrunk, the internationally-renowned theatre company known for its pioneering approach to immersive theatre. With its promises of empowerment, freedom and experiential joy, immersive theatre continues to gain popularity - this study brings necessary critical analysis to this rapidly developing field. What exactly do we mean by audience “immersion”? How might immersion in a Punchdrunk production be described, theorised, situated or politicised? What is valued in immersive experience - and are these values explicit or implied? Immersive Theatre and Audience Experience draws on rehearsals, performances and archival access to Punchdrunk, providing new critical perspectives from cognitive studies, philosophical aesthetics, narrative theory and computer games. Its discussion of immersion is structured around three themes: interactivity and game; story and narrative; environment and space. Providing a rigorous theoretical toolkit to think further about the form’s capabilities, and offering a unique set of approaches, this book will be of significance to scholars, students, artists and spectators.

Inversion Method in the Discrete-time Nonlinear Control Systems Synthesis Problems

Inversion Method in the Discrete-time Nonlinear Control Systems Synthesis Problems

Ülle Kotta

Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH Co. K
1995
nidottu
The purpose of this book is twofold: To survey control system design methods based on the system inversion technique and to collect into one place the many recent results in the field. It has been known for some time that inverse systems may be used to solve numerous control problems. Despite the importance and conceptual simplicity of this topic there appears to be no monograph written on it. The purpose of this work is therefore to present and apply a systematic design method which bases itself on the fundamental system property of invertibility. Many different theoretical and practical aspects are considered in this volume working from elementary topics in the first section to current research in the second.
