This text makes use of symbolic algebra and vector-matrix algebra to demonstrate a new approach to learning statics. Symbolic solutions are obtained, together with the types of solutions covered in other texts, so that students can see the advantages of this new approach.This innovative text is an extension of second-generation vector Statics courses to a new, third-generation matrix-vector Statics course, a course that addresses deformable as well as rigid bodies and employs MATLAB®.MATLAB® is used as a “calculator” whose built-in functions are used to solve statics problems. This text uses vectors and matrices to solve both statically determinate rigid body problems and statically indeterminate problems for deformable bodies.The inclusion of statically indeterminate problems is unique to this text. It is made possible by using symbolic algebra and a new, simplified vector-matrix formulation that combines the equations of equilibrium, the homogeneous solutions to those equations, and a description of the flexibilities found in the deformable elements of a structure to solve directly for the unknown forces/moments.

It argued that even as water becomes scarcer in a land where 80% of the grain crop is irrigated, as per-acre yield gains are erased by the loss of agricultural land to industrialization, and as food production stagnates, China still increases its population by the equivalent of a new Beijing each year. This book predicts that in an integrated world economy, China’s rising food prices will become the world’s rising food prices. China’s land scarcity will come everyone’s land scarcity and water scarcity in China will affect the entire world. China’s dependence on massive imports, like the collapse of the world’s fisheries, will be a wake-up call that we are colliding with the earth’s capacity to feed us. In book one, the first few poems reflect musicality, traveling the seas, art, and love, etc. Musicologist sets the mood from an early time and experiences as a musician-songwriter expressed with a deep sense of consciousness and knowledge as a composer. Book two is darker but filled with exploration and conflicts beginning with "Angry Women" then developed further into a dramatic and sad ending, "Ode To A Friend (Prata)." Lester G Neddy Smith is a musician, an author, and a poet. He holds a BS from Empire State College and an MA Ed from the University of Phoenix. As an artist, he has several recordings to his credit, a novel and published poems collaboration peers. Neddy is the author of "Valerie Palmary: A Small-Town Girl."
