The book shows that Maxwell's equations can be represented in the symmetrical form and such equations describe entire spectrum of electrodynamic processes in the material media. The equivalent diagrams of plasma media, dielectrics and magnetic materials, placed between the planes of long line are represented. The new concept of kinetic capacity is introduced, which describes the energy processes, connected with the precessional motion of the magnetic moments of atoms in the magnetized media. The concepts of the electrokinetic and magnetopotential waves, which describe wave processes in the nonmagnetic and magnetized material media, are introduced.

The complete mathematical description of electromagnetic problems is provided by the celebrated Maxwell equations, a system of partial differential equations - pressed interms ofphysical quantitiesliketheelectric?eld, themagnetic?eld and the currentdensity.Maxwell'scontributiontotheformulationofthese equationsisrelated to the introductionof a speci?c term, called displacement current, that he proposed to add to the set of equations generally assumed to hold at that time, in order to ensure the conservation of the electric charge. The presence of the displacement current permits to describe one of the most - portant phenomenon in electromagnetism, namely, wave propagation; however, in many interesting applications the propagation speed of the wave is very high with respect to the ratio of some typical length and time scale of the considered device, and therefore the dominant aspect becomes the diffusionof the electromagnetic ?elds. When the focus is on diffusioninstead of propagation, from the modelingpointof view this corresponds to neglecting the time derivative of the electric induction (i.e., thedisplacement current introducedby Maxwell)or, alternatively, neglectingthe time derivative of the magnetic induction.

The stochastic Maxwell equations play an essential role in many fields, including fluctuational electrodynamics, statistical radiophysics, integrated circuits, and stochastic inverse problems. This book provides some recent advances in the investigation of numerical approximations of the stochastic Maxwell equations via structure-preserving algorithms. It presents an accessible overview of the construction and analysis of structure-preserving algorithms with an emphasis on the preservation of geometric structures, physical properties, and asymptotic behaviors of the stochastic Maxwell equations. A friendly introduction to the simulation of the stochastic Maxwell equations with some structure-preserving algorithms is provided using MATLAB for the reader’s convenience. The objects considered in this book are related to several fascinating mathematical fields: numerical analysis, stochastic analysis, (multi-)symplectic geometry, large deviations principle, ergodic theory, partial differential equation, probability theory, etc. This book will appeal to researchers who are interested in these topics.

This book provides an introductory yet comprehensive account of James Clerk Maxwell's (1831–79) physics and worldview. The argument is structured by a focus on the fundamental themes which shaped Maxwell's science: analogy and geometry, models and mechanical explanation, statistical representation and the limitations of dynamical reasoning, and the relation between physical theory and its mathematical description. This approach, which considers his physics as a whole, bridges the disjunction between Maxwell's greatest contributions: the concept of the electromagnetic field and the kinetic theory of gases. Maxwell's work and ideas are viewed historically in terms of his indebtedness to scientific and cultural traditions, of Edinburgh experimental physics, and of Cambridge mathematics and philosophy of science, which nurtured his career.

Gauss's law for electric fields, Gauss's law for magnetic fields, Faraday's law, and the Ampere–Maxwell law are four of the most influential equations in science. In this guide for students, each equation is the subject of an entire chapter, with detailed, plain-language explanations of the physical meaning of each symbol in the equation, for both the integral and differential forms. The final chapter shows how Maxwell's equations may be combined to produce the wave equation, the basis for the electromagnetic theory of light. This book is a wonderful resource for undergraduate and graduate courses in electromagnetism and electromagnetics. A website hosted by the author at www.cambridge.org/9780521701471 contains interactive solutions to every problem in the text as well as audio podcasts to walk students through each chapter.

Some people are born to greatness, others have greatness thrust upon them... and some are just drawn like that.As the creator of a popular new comics franchise, Jane Maxwell knows a thing or two about heroes, but has no illusions of being one herself. All of that is shattered, however, when she finds herself swept into a parallel world-one where her characters are real, and her parallel self is their leader. There's just one problem: that Jane is missing.Under the growing danger of a deadly new villain named UltraViolet, the team has no choice but to ask Jane to do the impossible: step into the suit left behind by her double, become the hero that they need her to be. But with budding powers that threaten to overwhelm her, a family she only half-recognizes, and the parallel version of her dead wife staring her in the face, navigating her alternate life proves harder than she ever imagined...

Mary Maxwell-Hume is an enigma. She earns a living as a piano teacher, but also belongs to an obscure order of nuns. Their rules appear curious: although the nuns wear red habits occasionally, the order has a peculiar dress code: nuns wear 'only as much as is necessary to preserve due modesty' - plus liberal doses of Chanel No.5 perfume. There's the faintest hint that Mary might be a bit of a hustler, but she uses her sensual powers in such a way that nobody really minds - except for the odious Theodore Plews of Lamberts Auction House in Edinburgh. Anyway, who would dare suggest that a woman of God might not all be all she seems? Eventually, she engages a young police constable as her faithful 'assistant'... This series of short stories combines into an entertaining novella with more than an occasional twist. Why not sit back and enjoy where Mary Maxwell-Hume leads us?

James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879) was a Scottish physicist well-known for his extensive work with electromagnetism, colour analysis, and kinetic theory. Considered by many to be a giant in his field with significant influence on the physicists who would follow, Maxwell spent time as a professor at Aberdeen University, King's College, London, and Cambridge. This 1882 Life by his friend Lewis Campbell and natural philosopher William Garnett represents an important – and lengthy – investigation into Maxwell's life and thought. Part I is concerned with biographical matters while the second section focuses upon his scientific mind. A third part contains Maxwell's poetry, so included because the poems are 'characteristic of him' and have 'curious biographical interest'. At nearly 700 pages, the Life represents an important starting point for those curious about the state of theoretical physics and the person in whom it reached its culmination in the nineteenth century.
