Industrial Price, Quantity, and Productivity Indices: The Micro-Economic Theory and an Application gives a comprehensive account of the micro-economic foundations of industrial price, quantity, and productivity indices. The various results available from the literature have been brought together into a consistent framework, based upon modern duality theory. This integration also made it possible to generalize several of these results. Thus, this book will be an important resource for theoretically as well as empirically-oriented researchers who seek to analyse economic problems with the help of index numbers. Although this book's emphasis is on micro-economic theory, it is also intended as a practical guide. A full chapter is therefore devoted to an empirical application. Three different approaches are pursued: a straightforward empirical approach, a non-parametric estimation approach, and a parametric estimation approach. As well as illustrating some of the more important concepts explored in this book, and showing to what extent different computational approaches lead to different outcomes for the same measures, this chapter also makes a powerful case for the use of enterprise micro-data in economic research.

Are you a HoCo? I think you are. A HoCo is not a dirty word. It's short for 'homo competens', and that is not an insult. That's Latin for 'competent person'. If you are a HoCo, or want to be one, this book is for you. This book talks about competent people in the network age. It discusses competence, the times we live in, and presents guidelines and tools that you - the homo competens - will need to thrive in your personal life, at work, and in society at large. If we really mean that 'competent people are our most important asset', let's not treat competence as a black box or leave it to chance.

On his first Sunday as pastor of a rural Virginia church, newly-minted minister Eddie Campbell discovers that his leading elder is an apostle of racism. Eddie's own more liberal views soon put him at serious odds with Mr. Melon, and others in his congregation. Eddie persists, but finds his own faith tested by challenges in his ministry and crises in his family life. Set in the 1950s, Parson Campbell's Breakthrough tells a story of a close-knit southern community encountering changing social norms about race that force them to confront their longstanding beliefs and prejudices. Answers don't come easily, and not all hearts are changed, but in the end Eddie achieves a breakthrough he could not have imagined on his first Sunday.Bert Johnston is a retired Presbyterian minister who served churches throughout the South and Midwest. He writes from a Christian perspective, but preaches no sermons. Readers of Jan Karon's Mitford novels will enjoy Parson Campbell's Breakthrough.

About the Author + + +Bert Guiang hails from Tampo, Botolan, Zambales, Philippines. He was a freshman at the Philippine Normal College in the Manila when his grandfather Papo Ake (Dalmacio Guiang) saw the U S Navy recruiting advertisement in the Manila Times. He just turned 18 when he was inducted into the US Navy at Sangley Point in Cavite City. He first saw services as a black shoe sailor on a Destroyer and a Patrol Gunboat and later on switched to a Seabee Rating, the Construction Arm of the United States Navy. He retired as an Engineering Aide Chief Petty Officer. In addition to the two warships, he was also stationed in Puerto Rico, Virginia Beach, VA, Keflavik, Iceland, Sigonella, Sicily and Rota, Spain. One of the highlights of his career was when he became a staff member at the Civil Engineer Corps Officers School at Port Hueneme, California where he had plenty of spare times and used it to finish his academic studies and earned his Bachelors Degree from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and wrote his first article "Architecture - the least appreciated of all the Arts" as a school project which was published in the Navy Civil Engineer Magazine. This jump-started his love of writing. Since then he had written articles published in a local Filipino-American newspaper in Oxnard, California. His love for writing has never waned ever since. + + + Acknowledgement + + +I wish to acknowledge the former and retired editor of the U S Navy Civil Engineer Magazine (1982), Leslie for his foresight and belief that a novice Enlisted writer (albeit an undergraduate then) should have a chance to be recognized by a navy-wide readership in a magazine whose writers have Masters and Doctorate Degrees and Commissioned Officers of the United States Navy. Also, to the Editors of the Filipino-American grassroots newspaper the Kapitbahay of Oxnard, California and the current Owners and Moderators of the Zambales Forum II of yahoo groups. Lastly to Print On Demand (POD) Publisher Tatay Jobo Elizes for believing that the articles are better compiled into a book and eternally listed and never goes out of prints and therefore always available online.

The same can be said about Hoc-control theory, which has become very popular lately. I am therefore pleased to present in this book a complete treatment of the state-space solution to the Hoo-control problem for a large class of distributed parameter systems.
