Genudgivelse i paperback.

Siddhartha is a novel by Hermann Hesse that deals with the spiritual journey of self-discovery of a man named Siddhartha during the time of the Gautama Buddha. The book, Hesse's ninth novel, was written in German, in a simple, lyrical style. It was published in the U.S. in 1951 and became influential during the 1960s. Hesse dedicated the first part of it to Romain Rolland and the second part to Wilhelm Gundert, his cousin. The word Siddhartha is made up of two words in Sanskrit language, siddha (achieved) + artha (what was searched for), which together means "he who has found meaning (of existence)" or "he who has attained his goals." In fact, the Buddha's own name, before his renunciation, was Siddhartha Gautama, Prince of Kapilavastu. In this book, the Buddha is referred to as "Gotama."

Hermann Hesse's 'Journey to the East' tells of a journey both geographic and spiritual, in a simple and mesmerizing prose. H.H., a German choirmaster, is invited on an expedition with the League, a secret society whose members consist of Paul Klee, Mozart, and Albertus Magnus. The participants traverse both space and time, encountering Noah's Ark in Zurich and Don Quixote at Bremgarten. The pilgrims' ultimate destination is the East, the "Home of the Light," where they expect to find spiritual renewal. The harmony that ruled at the outset of the trip soon degenerates into open conflict. Each traveler finds the rest of the group intolerable and heads off in his own direction, with H.H. bitterly blaming the others for the failure of the journey. It is only long after the trip, while poring over records in the League archives, that H.H. discovers his own role in the dissolution of the group, and the ominous significance of the journey itself.

The Story of Emil Sinclair's Childhood is a historical novel by Hermann Hesse. It was published in 1919, and the introduction was added in 1960. The first edition of Demian was published under the pen name of Emil Sinclair, the name of the storyteller. However, Hesse was later revealed to be the author, and the 10th version was quickly named after him. When it was published in 1919, this transitional novel received immediate critical and popular acclaim. A masterpiece in the history of 20th-century literature, it reflects the writer's distraction with the duality of human nature and the achievement of spiritual fulfillment.

Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha: An Indian Novel, published in 1922, is about a man named Siddhartha's spiritual quest of self-discovery during the time of the Gautama Buddha. It was Hesse's ninth book and was written in a straightforward, lyrical style in German. It was released in the United States in 1951, and it gained popularity in the 1960s. Hesse wrote it as a tribute to Wilhelm Gundert, his cousin, and to Romain Rolland in the first section. The Sanskrit words Siddha (achieved) and artha (what was sought after), which make up the name Siddhartha, collectively mean "he who has found meaning (of existence)" or "he who has achieved his objectives. Actually, the Buddha was known as Siddhartha Gautama when he was the prince of Kapilavastu. The story takes place in the historic kingdom of Kapilavastu in Nepal. Siddhartha makes the decision to forsake his house in the pursuit of enlightenment through asceticism as an animal roaming beggar. Together with his best friend Govinda, Siddhartha abstains from food, abandons his home, gives up all of his possessions, and engages in prolonged meditation before seeking out and speaking with Gautama, the renowned Buddha or Enlightened One.

"Demian" is a novel written by the German-Swiss author Hermann Hesse. Originally published in 1919, "Demian" is a coming-of-age novel that explores themes of individualism, self-discovery, and spiritual awakening. The story is narrated by Emil Sinclair, a young boy growing up in Germany during the early 20th century. Sinclair experiences the challenges of adolescence and the rigid social norms of his time. His life takes a significant turn when he meets Max Demian, a charismatic and unconventional classmate who introduces him to a world of philosophical and spiritual ideas. As Sinclair becomes increasingly influenced by Demian's perspective, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery and rebellion against societal conventions. The novel delves into themes of inner conflict, the search for one's true self, and the tension between conforming to societal norms and pursuing personal authenticity. "Demian" is often regarded as a precursor to Hermann Hesse's later and more famous works, such as "Siddhartha" and "Steppenwolf." It reflects Hesse's interest in Eastern spirituality and his exploration of the inner workings of the human psyche. The novel's narrative is rich in symbolism and psychological depth, making it a thought-provoking and philosophical work. "Demian" has been influential in the realm of literature and has resonated with readers seeking to understand the complexities of identity, morality, and personal growth.
