One of The Guardian's "1,000 Books to Read Before You Die" This underrated classic of contemporary Irish literature tells the "utterly transfixing" story of a lonely, poverty-stricken spinster in 1950s Belfast (The Boston Globe) Judith Hearne is an unmarried woman of a certain age who has come down in society. She has few skills and is full of the prejudices and pieties of her genteel Belfast upbringing. But Judith has a secret life. And she is just one heartbreak away from revealing it to the world. Hailed by Graham Greene, Thomas Flanagan, and Harper Lee alike, The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne is an unflinching and deeply sympathetic portrait of a woman destroyed by self and circumstance. First published in 1955, it marked Brian Moore as a major figure in English literature (he would go on to be short-listed three times for the Booker Prize) and established him as an astute chronicler of the human soul. "Seldom in modern fiction has any character been revealed so completely or been made to seem so poignantly real." --The New York Times

An homage to the life of poet, writer, and teaching artist Judith Tannenbaum and her impact on incarcerated and marginalized students. The Book of Judith honors Judith Tannenbaum but also reflects, through both form and content, on the complexities of seeing both the parts and the whole. The book presents different aspects of Judith—poet, teaching artist, friend, mentor, colleague—through a collection of original poetry, prose, essay, illustration, and fiction from 33 contributors. In so doing, it echoes her own determination to perceive contradiction without judgment. For the next generation of teaching artists in Corrections and elsewhere, the book serves as an inspiration on the qualities needed to survive and thrive in a multi-faceted, ever-changing environment. The book is divided into four sections, separated by riveting black and white pencil drawings inspired by the lives of those serving life in prison without possibility of parole. In Unfinished Conversations, contributors share their bond with Judith Tannenbaum through prose and excerpts from letters both real and imagined. In the second section, After December, poets reflect on the life, artistry, and legacy of Judith. The third section, Looking and Listening, focuses on the truth-seeking qualities that Judith brought to her work. The fourth section, Legacy, features work from winners of an award and a fellowship bestowed in her name.

From the Judith to the Round Barn traces the story of "Indian John" from the assault by Delaware Indians on the family of his father, Peter Gluck, during the French and Indian War in 1756. Little Johnny, the sole survivor, grew up in an Amish home, and became progenitor of many, including Levi Glick, who established a flourishing dairy farm with a round barn in North Dakota.
The Book of Judith is an epic tale of faith and strength in the face of certain doom. Drawing upon deceit and trickery as an act of service, this unlikely hero saves her people from destruction. Based on the apocryphal book of Judith, this visually compelling account retains the wry humor, wit, and theological milieu of the ancient author.

She was under the impression that her troubles started with the overdose of her father. The truth is, her troubles were the residual effects of her parents buried past. Pieces she thought had just began to move in her life were actually owed for the emotional debt her parents were in. She realizes her own origins were all a portrait painted by her mother and father as her life unravels.Would her parents have made different choices if they could have predicted the consequences? Would her life had been better if they had done what society proclaims is "the right thing"? Who is to say they were not convinced they were doing the right thing? Time is the best story teller. It will keep the spoilers to itself and taunt the characters. We walked away from Edith with so many unknowns. Throughout her story, her mother in particular made unapologetic decisions. These decisions seemed to have a motivation only known to herself. Edith is very clear herself about her mother's understood privacy throughout the story. We will finally see, "private for what?"
Judith Wright (1915-2000) remains a giant figure within Australian art, culture, and politics. Her 1946 collection of poetry, The Moving Image, revolutionized Australian poetry. She helped to establish the modern Australian environmental movement and was a key player in early campaigns for Aboriginal land rights. A friend and confidante of artists, writers, scholars, activists, and policy makers, she remains an inspiration to many. And yet, as Georgina Arnott is able to show in this major new work, the biographical picture we have had of this renowned poet-activist has been very much a partial one. This book presents a more human figure than we have previously seen, and concentrates on Wright's younger years. New material allows us to hear-directly, thrillingly-the feisty voice of a young Judith Wright, and forces us to reconsider the woman we thought we knew.
