Modern Irish Literature and the Primitive Sublime

Modern Irish Literature and the Primitive Sublime

Modern Irish Literature and the Primitive Sublime reveals the Primitive Sublime as an overlooked aspect of modern Irish literature as central to Ireland’s artistic production and the wider global cultural production of Postcolonial literature. A concern for and anxiety about the primitive persists within modern Irish culture. The “otherness” within and beyond Ireland’s borders offers writers, from the Celtic Revival through independence and partition to post-9/11, a seductive call through which to negotiate Irish identity. Ultimately, the disquieting awe of the primitive sublime is not simply a momentary recognition of Ireland’s primitive indigenous history but a repeated rhetorical gesture that beckons a transcendent elation brought about by the recognition of the troubled, ritualistic and sacrificial Irish past to reveal a fundamental aspect of the capacity to negotiate identity, viewed through another but intimately reflective of the self, within the long emerging twentieth-century Irish nation.

On a cold and snowy night in January 1972, George Peters was shot by his brother-in-law and left to die on a back road in rural Ontario. The investigation and trial of his murder would tell a story that compelled a jury to let his killer walk free. But his children and family were left to seek answers the judicial system couldn't provide. Who was George Peters, and what life had he lived before meeting his untimely end?George Peters and his wife, Anna, were born in Mexico and raised with the strict upbringings of the Old Colony Mennonite Church. At every stage of their life, they faced abuse but endured in silence for fear of excommunication and punishment. In order to try and find his family a better life, George decided to make the move to Canada. But with his wife suffering from severe undiagnosed mental illnesses and six children that were repeatedly being taken away by CAS for their own safety, it had been a constant uphill battle for him to do what he truly wanted: provide for his family. Not My Kind of Mennonite is a personal dive into the history, culture, and religious and social pressures faced by one Mexican Mennonite family. Maria Moore, one of George's own children, blends her research about the Mennonite community with firsthand accounts about her family to fully explore her father's legacy, life, hopes, and dreams.

Time Management Skills for Kids: Simple Strategies to Help Your Kids Win at Any Situation
Effective time management requires the right techniques. The Purpose of This BookThe purpose of this book is to provide a guide for parents on how to raise an independent, self-assured, and organized child. Doing so will boost your child's independence, ease frustration, and promote confidence. The information is intended to help parents understand the struggles of their disorganized child, thereby minimizing parental frustration, and subsequent misunderstanding, through understanding and support. This book gives an overview of early brain development as it relates to organization and provides appropriate age-based milestones for organizational skills. The neurodevelopmental functions that contribute to organization are described. You will be shown how dysfunctions (breakdowns or lacks) in these neurodevelopmental systems can interfere with a child's everyday activities. Most important, the book provides practical solutions for parents and teachers to help children develop their organizational abilities.New parents of young children can use this book to immunize their child against future organizational struggles.Parents who are already strongly affected by their child's disorganization will be empowered to create an individualized treatment plan that consists of strategies for improving their child's organizational skills. Finally, teachers can provide families with valuable tips and recommendations to address a student's organizational deficits in the classroom. Remember, organized children are not born-they are raised. Why This Book Is ImportantA growing body of research from the fields of psychology, neuropsychology, and medicine describes how the brain supports organized thinking, and numerous books exist that provide parents and students with organizational strategies to assist with tasks at school and at home. But there have not been books that define the neurodevelopmental abilities that are critical for organization and then show parents how to develop their child's organized thinking skills. This book shows parents how to teach their children to use organized thinking to show insight, plan ahead, and grasp the big picture.Raising an Organized Child should empower you, as a parent, to support your emerging organized child at levels that are developmentally appropriate. This book spans infancy through the teen years so that you can refer back to this book as your child grows older. Use the milestones in this book to understand how hard to push your child, and use the interventions to support your child if he starts falling behind. You might even learn a little bit about how your organized brain works, and the realization that we all think differently and we all have strengths and weaknesses helps us understand that every child follows a unique and special path.Organization of the BookThe content of the book is arranged to correspond with a child's developmental level, so that parents can have a better understanding of their child's organizational skills level, thereby enabling them to provide the right amount of support. Each of the upcoming chapters of this book addresses specific interventions to support your child's organizational progress. The interventions challenge children to exercise their executive functioning skills. My experience as a pediatrician and parent for more than 20 years has helped me understand that there are basic principles to follow when raising organized kids. This book puts the organizational expectations into a context of what is developmentally appropriate and explains the 5 Steps to Raising an Organized Child.Be consistent.Introduce order.Give everything a place.Practice forward-thinking: planning, estimating, and cr

In response to the crisis in American education, more than five thousand public and private schools across the nation have adopted the timeless Montessori Method of teaching, of which this book is the cornerstone. Written by the women whose name is synonymous worldwide with child development theory, The Absorbent Mind takes its title from the phrase that the inspired Italian doctor coined to characterize the child's most crucial developmental stage: the first six years.

Montessori is world renown for having developed the Montessori Method. This is a method of education for young children that stresses the development of a child's own initiative and natural abilities, especially through practical play. This method allowed children to develop at their own pace and provided educators with a new understanding of child development. Montessori's book, The Montessori Method, presents the method in detail. Educators who followed this model set up special environments to meet the needs of students in three developmentally-meaningful age groups: 2-2.5 years, 2.5-6 years, and 6-12 years. The students learn through activities that involve exploration, manipulations, order, repetition, abstraction, and communication. Teachers encourage children in the first two age groups to use their senses to explore and manipulate materials in their immediate environment. Children in the last age group deal with abstract concepts based on their newly developed powers of reasoning, imagination, and creativity. In 1939 Montessori gave a training course at the Theosophical Society in Madras and had intended to give a tour of lectures at various universities, and then return to Europe. When Italy entered WWII on the side of Germany in 1940, Britain interned all Italians in the UK and its colonies as enemy aliens. In fact, only Mario Montessori was interned, while Montessori herself was confined to the Theosophical Society compound, and Mario was reunited with his mother after two months. The Montessoris remained in Madras and Kodaikanal until 1946, although they were allowed to travel in connection with lectures and courses. The present volume is the publication, originally published in Italian, of the first Training Course after her internment in India.
