The Power of Religious Societies in Shaping Early Modern Society and Identities
The Power of Religious Societies in Shaping Early Modern Society and Identities studies the value system of the French Catholic community the Filles de la Charité, or the Daughters of Charity, in the first half of the seventeenth century. An analysis of the activities aimed at edifying morality in the different strata of society revealed a Christian anthropology with strong links to medieval traditions. The book argues that this was an important survival strategy for the Company with a disconcerting religious identity: the non-cloistered lifestyle of its members engaged in charity work had been made unlawful in the Council of Trent. Moreover, the directors Louise de Marillac and Vincent de Paul also had to find ways to curtail internal resistance as the sisters rebelled in quest of a more contemplative and enclosed vocation.
Superwomen Do IT Less...Or A Helluva Lot Better! A Millennium Guide to Having IT All: Children, a Career and a Loving Relationship
"SuperWomen Do IT Less...Or a Helluva Lot Better " A Millennium guide to Having IT All: Children, a Career and a Loving RelationshipBusinesswoman, Author and Athlete Rose Marie Ray Speaks from ExperienceAlmost 47 percent of U.S. workers are women, according to the U.S. Dept. of Labor. That means that almost half of the working population is underpaid while doing the same job as a man. Whether the CEO of a Fortune 500 company or nurse, she earns less. As a result of her own experience, being paid less base pay than the men in the same position in her company, her IRA was short $350,000 for ten years of pay inequity. This was not known until she went to court to fight discrimination on the basis of her sex and denial of equal job opportunity. Finding out she was, for the second time in less than 20 years, being paid less than her male counterparts was a shock.According to a 2016 report by the National Partnership for Women and Families, women nationwide make 80 cents to their male counterpart's dollar. How can we break this cycle?SuperWomen Do IT Less...Or a Helluva Lot Better , A Millennium Guide to Having It All: Children, a Career and a Loving Relationship," Edition 2, offers a guidebook for empowering all women striving to succeed in their personal and business lives, while navigating through daily trials. It provides first-hand experience to women on how to find a new career, enter or re-enter the job market, develop a support system, handle job stress and discrimination, and balance your daily living. As a mother, breadwinner, careerist, and homemaker, she succeeded in being #1 in her company in sales while being underpaid and disrespected for her work. She discusses the ups and downs of women in the workplace and how to develop and execute a plan for your personal and business life.Women have two jobs: one is working at a job for eight hours per day, five days per week; the other is being a support system for her family seven days a week, 365 days per year. Balancing these two opposing positions takes courage, constant communication, and grit that superwomen find challenging but not impossible to do with the right information as is in this book.In every industry, professional or clerk, women face the challenges of a male-dominated society and a lack of support for women's issues, such as maternity leave, equal pay, job equality and childcare, on all levels of business interaction. Because they are underpaid, as a group, social security benefit payments at retirement will be less after years of contributions. If she is single with children, she has spent her life working for less pay and probably living paycheck to paycheck. Things have not changed throughout the last almost 50 years. Women's workplace issues are swept under the rug or put on the back burner in hopes they will go away.Ray faced a number of challenges and obstacles throughout her professional career in information technology, because of her gender. She was the first woman in sales for a global company and had a path-breaking legal case in the State of New York, 1975 Human Rights Commission, when conciliation found discrimination based on her sex and age, and exclusion from participating with her peers in company events, earning an equal salary, and equal opportunities for her success. The goal of this book is to empower all women to go after what they want while guiding them through the tough choices they face between their family life and career. Every day, women must do IT all. We can find success in having IT all when we make the right choices - not for the company or another person - but for ourselves.
