In true haunted house tradition, the non-human and the supernatural are also given rooms of their own; personal demons are summoned (White Poem, This Shit Is Killing You), we are entangled with our wilder sides (Under, Whales at Night). Witchcraft, seance and prophecy are invoked (Malkin Tower, Ritual For, The Glory, This Morning I) and brought up against sharp slices of reality (Cold Ham, Safe Words). SL Grange is a queer writer, theatre-maker and multi-disciplinary artist. Their recent work includes A Note to Mary Frith, commissioned by Shakespeare’s Globe for the Notes to Forgotten She-Wolves series; and of his family commissioned by Improbable for Fly the Flag 2020; and Wou D’Ulzecht, an audio-walk project with composer Catherine Kontz commissioned for European Capital of Culture 2022. She is currently engaged in a PhD exploring more ethical ways that we might ‘do’ Queer history, and in turn how that history might do us, which involves a conversation across 400 years with cross-dressing performer and trickster Mary Frith. The Poetry Wales Pamphlet Competition is open only to writers living in the UK aged 18+ who have not previously published a collection and are currently under-represented in publishing in the UK, including working-class writers, writers of colour, disabled writers, neurodiverse writers and LGBTQI+ writers.

The story of King Solomon has fascinated spiritual and religious writers for millennia - this book advances a theory that Solomon was infact a Magi who created many of the rituals, spells and symbols important to occultists. This edition includes the original, crucial illustrations.Although the idea that Solomon carried some sort of mystical powers is not new, this book purports to be written in the ancient king of the Jews' own hand. The magical symbols and diagrams which are situated alongside the various rituals and incantations are intricate, containing pentacles and other shapes. Towards the end of the book a large table is appended, detailing a selection of mystical alphabets and their English. Furthermore, a table lists the esoteric designations of hours and days, and their corresponding angels.For his investigation, Mathers delved deep into the archives of the British Museum, unearthing an old French manuscript of the text which he duly translated into English. He also replicated the diagrams and symbols; these efforts resulted in this modern English version of the old Solomon manuscripts, and an increase in public interest toward writings hitherto very obscure.Modern scholars generally agree that the Key of Solomon is a pseudepigraphical grimoire, likely composed around the 14th century AD by a Renaissance writer. Much of the text is quintessentially resemblant of other books of Renaissance era magic, which were inspired by earlier texts written by Arabic authors and Jewish kabbalists. However, occultists consider the text to carry more than a mere grain of truth regarding Solomon's true personality and abilities.

Interview with the authorQ: How do you feel now that the fantasy series is complete? A: First of all, relieved that I got here: ). At times, it was quite exhausting to come up with new ideas or work over a passage again and again until it is better. However, right after the relief comes the sadness that it's over. I've had so much fun while creating this world and figuring out conversations and emotions between the characters. It will be weird not to think about them anymore every day. Luckily, they are in the books and I could read them if I start missing them too much: ) Q: What did you learn on this writing journey? A: I think I got better with creating emotions. At least I had way fewer comments from my editor about "not showing" emotions in HoP3 than I did in the other novels. I also took the magic up a notch. What I love best about fantasy books is when they make you feel wowed because you can't believe what you just read and wished this could happen to you as well. So, the amount of magic grew exponentially throughout the series. Q: Where did you get your inspiration? A: For the emotions, I analyzed The Hunger Games. That book gives me goosebumps on every page, and I would love to be able to do the same and create emotions in my readers. I highlighted the phrases in different colors and then put them into different emotional categories. I tried to find a pattern which I then could use for my story. I'm curious to hear what my readers think when they read HoP3. Plus, for the magic of course Harry Potter is a huge inspiration. I have butterflies in my stomach when I think about the world which has been created there. I didn't want to copy anything as Heart of Power should be a unique story, but I still hope some scenes will completely enchant the reader. Q: Can we expect more books from you? A: Writing still is an urge which I can't suppress. I've already a mental list of all the travel guides I still want to write. Next up are Laos and the Philippines. Also, I will quit my teaching job next summer to go traveling South America. Then, even more travel guides will emerge from that: ) Plus, the idea for Heart of Power started on a trip about five years ago. Traveling is inspiring and perhaps I will soon have ideas for a new fantasy novel. I really liked writing the epilogue of HoP3 as it's so rich with magic and perhaps I could write an epic fantasy story instead of an urban fantasy which only includes some magical elements.
