"A unique crime writer whose fictional world was brutal, realistic and harrowing in the extreme."--Guardian In the three police procedurals that comprise the Factory Series, Derek Raymond has created a narrator who threatens to become a cult figure while preserving his anonymity. A loner and cynic, undervalued and underpaid, our hero is a nameless detective sergeant in the Department of Unexplained Deaths, a catch-all unit that investigates low-life crimes and is shunned by the blokes in the Serious Crimes Division of the Metropolitan Police. But our narrator, working out of the Factory, named by the villains because it has a bad reputation for doing suspects over in the interrogation rooms, is fired by a real feeling for justice. He believes that an alcoholic, found obscenely battered to death in a seedy, down-and-out part of London, deserves as much official attention as, say, a dead politician. This "nobody" becomes a somebody--a kindred spirit who left behind a strange legacy. Our cop becomes obsessed by the case. But even he could not have imagined how vicious, evil, and perversely attractive his opponent will turn out to be.

Dancehall isn't just music. It's a philosophy, a survival strategy, a rebellion in riddim. From Kingston to London, Fire Inna Dancehall traces how sound, style and struggle collided to create one of the most influential cultural movements of the past half-century. Part memoir, part social history, and part love letter to Black creativity, it charts the rise of dancehall as both a soundtrack and a survival strategy as a space where joy and resistance share the same rhythm. Bardowell explores how the pulse of dancehall music speaks to migration, masculinity, faith, freedom and the ongoing fight for self-definition. This is the story of how a beat became a battleground and how a sound became a global language of liberation. Brave, lyrical and unapologetic, Fire Inna Dancehall does not seek permission to sing. It insists on being heard.

This is my story of being on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum - having Asperger's Syndrome to be precise - and my lifelong social and emotional struggles of being in the mainstream with this condition, as I was mainstreamed out of special education at six years old and have been mainstreamed ever since. This book includes some pretty traumatic tales of me being bullied, shunned, unable to fit into many aspects of mainstream adult society, particularly the workforce, and, well...feeling like I'm ""Walking On Eggshells"" wherever I go due to my being on the spectrum. If anyone on the spectrum, high functioning or otherwise, is able to get the feeling that he or she is not alone in whatever struggles they may be experiencing, or if any neurotypicals(non-autistics), after reading this, gains understanding and maybe a little sympathy of what Aspies and folks on the spectrum go through, then I suppose I have accomplished something.

Derek Meyers third book remembers the incredible brave fighters and talented icons of dance during the AIDS crisis and looks back at each of the four decades since the first cases of the disease were reported in the early 1980s. Medical dramas such as Greys Anatomy have been top rated in recent years and this book won`t let readers down who want to learn more about HIV and AIDS, but "Live as Heroes" is mainly a book about the heroes, who were not getting tired of trying to make a difference right in the face of darkness. The book connects the power of the performing arts with the inspiring stories of those people who fought against discriminations and the missing support from the government and managed to build up organizations such as the GMHC or AIDS Healthcare Foundation. It also tells a personal story which is both sweet and sad at the same time and encourages its readers to ask themselves if they prefer to hide as villains and cowards or "Live as Heroes".
Trailblazers of the High Seas: Heir to Power
Pain. Rage. Loss. Ada Aust's journey back to her mother is about to be a lot more complicated than expected. The glorified Phoenix Stone--the single source of all the power the Infinity Sea produces--is in the possession of Ada and Flynn. But it wouldn't stay like that. Governor Averill and the British Navy still lurk their vicinity, and Dion and the Seekers pose a complication against getting the money Ada needs to save her mother. Conflict is also beginning to grow within the credit, giving Firuzeh the chance to reclaim some of her previously-held influence. Flynn's crew now finds itself in a chase across the globe, as far south as Bermuda Island and as far north as the Arctic Circle--and eventually back into the Infinity Sea. In this drastic sequel to The Isles of Phoenix Point, Ada will find herself in an aggressive game of finding out who will be the heir to the Phoenix Stone's infinite power.

The idea that an omnipotent and benevolent deity would have created a universe in which physical laws dictate outcomes that necessarily produce deleterious effects on sentient creatures 'begs the question' of omnipotence. A biosphere in which predation, parasitism, plague etc. prevail brings into question both omnipotence and benevolence. And causes consternation among the alleged 'brights' of the world who deny the existence of any other 'mind' than that of naturalism or monism. The apostle Paul refers to a creation that is 'groaning' (Romans 8)-that the creation had been subjugated, by its creator and sustainer (not by natural forces) to a state of affairs that is nothing like the best possible world-even 'Heaven'. 'God's Goal in Creation' offers a fresh perspective on the reason for God's subjugation of the creation, for the problem of Evil as well as the perceived problem of an evolutionary system that is often labeled as 'Natural Evil'. God is 'The Good'.Derek J. White (2019)

The sixth edition of The Construction of Houses builds on the success of the previous five editions. The book provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and processes of the construction of houses and their services. As such it is aimed at providing a broad understanding of domestic building construction for students as part of their academic studies and as a useful information source for practitioners. The existing chapters have all been updated and most of them expanded to take account of changes to dwelling house construction since the last edition and there are new chapters on ‘Modern Methods of Construction’ and ‘Regulatory controls and building standards’. Additionally, many new and/or updated photographs and diagrams have been added. As with the previous editions, the authors have concentrated on presenting current mainstream approaches to the construction of houses. The detailed, yet accessible, text that is supported by hundreds of coloured photographs and diagrams provides clear explanations of the many complex processes that go into the building of a house. A deeper insight into modern construction is also given by the book’s consideration of historical building techniques from the 18th century onwards in order to illustrate how and why we build houses in the way we do now.
