English poetry, Ballads of Bravery, illustrated,1877.
This book truly is a 'letter' (albeit a long one) to the author's grandchildren, ages 12 to 22. But it is not a "children's book," either in subject matter or in style. It is personal in that the author reflects on his own personal experiences while growing up and later in his life and he is clearly talking to people he knows and loves. It is also personal in the sense that it deals with issues of great importance to people who are going through their formative years. But it is not a book of advice or admonition. Rather, it raises questions for the kids to ponder. It pushes them to think outside the boxes of their (and their peer's) common concerns and it does so in the context of some of the most profound issues we face as humans.

George M. Bodge chronicles the wars with the Native Americans in the 17th century, with lists of the men who fought and died in conflicts ranging over decades. The American colonies originally arrived in peace, with coastal villages and townships forming the initial foothold of European settlers and migrants. Although the trading relationships established with certain Native American tribes strengthened the ties and friendship between the white settlers and natives, other tribes were suspicious and untrusting. This animosity soon resulted in open warfare; the Pequot tribe being the most notable aggressors. Over the 17th century, the British colonies in New England grew in significance and size. However their original, essentially civilian venture would gradually become complimented by a military defence. Militias were organized, with many able-bodied men - often simple farmers or laborers - receiving basic combat training with muskets and melee weapons, in case conflicts flared anew. This history book is astonishing in its thoroughness, capturing the events of the era with correspondences and lists of names of men who served. The increasing military organization - symbolized by the appearance of lieutenants and captains in the ranks - of the colonial peoples are shown, with the lists growing in size as the decades pass. George Madison Bodge was born in Maine, serving as an army volunteer during the early stages of the American Civil War. After departing his military service, Bodge chose to follow his father's footsteps and study divinity - although primarily a man of God, his interest in New England's early history would result in detailed and well-received books such as this.

Learn How to Relief Stress and Improve Yourself. Achieve Happiness Using Meditations and Other Exercises Based on the Philosophy of Buddhism. Discover Your Inner Self in Present MomentThis book presents my view on how to set your mind and body for dealing with anxiety, stress, and personal loss and how to improve your mental health through the benefits of mindfulness meditation. This book's goal is to help you to create your inner peace and to make your life better. The views and techniques written in this book represent my experience with the Buddhist philosophy of mindfulness and meditation techniques, based on Buddhism. I do not necessarily mean the religious aspect-rather, I base it on the spiritual insight that one can gain for themselves. I've been trying for some time now to dig deep in my thoughts, desires, insecurities, and frustrations, and I tried some other approaches as well. For me, this is the way that has helped me the most, but you should never believe anyone just based on their words. You should study and try all of this yourself. Then you will know for sure if it works for you. There is only one requirement for approaching this knowledge: be open-minded and honest with yourself. Look deep inside your thoughts and experiences, and after trying all the aspects and techniques described in this book, decide if it is the right path for you. Remember: Your mental health mostly depends on what's in your mind. You are in control of your thoughts. In other words, there is no reason to make someone else responsible for your emotions. That's up to you alone. So, let's start to learn and implement philosophy and techniques that have helped countless people for the past two-and-half-thousand years. Here Is A Preview Of What You'll Learn... Cooperative Learning through a Reflective Lens explores cooperative learning through the lens of reflective language teaching, delving into a wide range of issues on which teachers will want to reflect and suggesting ways that they could do that reflection. The book begins with background on cooperative learning including its theoretical roots and the research which supports its use. Next, eight principles for using cooperative learning are explained and examples are given as to how to implement those principles. Further highlighting the book' practical focus is a chapter on nuts and bolts matters that need to be considered when teachers help their students do cooperative learning. Of course, the light of reflection shines throughout the book, including in a chapter on how to encourage reflection among students on their own learning and on the functioning of their cooperative learning groups. Another chapter offers guidance on how reflection can inform teachers' use of cooperative learning with their students, as well as teachers' cooperation with their colleagues. The book finishes with example lessons which bring to life the principles and practicalities discussed in earlier chapters of the book.

What is the proper relationship between faith and deeds? How do Christians mature in the faith? What hope can we offer to those who face trials of various sorts? How do we learn to control our tongues and not get bogged down with riches? The apostle James faced these questions in profound ways and offered sound pastoral advice to his readers, scattered by persecution. His word to them can become a vital word to us if we are prepared to listen. In this keen, pastorally oriented commentary, readers will find exposition focused on what James had to say to his original readers in order to see its relevance for the church today.
