Gill Rijnenberg is the founder of the WINS Foundation, which he initiated in 2004 as a small private project. WINS has now evolved into a global non-profit charity organization, which goal is to provide unprivileged children of Indonesia the opportunity to obtain education, so that they can break the cycle of poverty. The WINS mission is not just to raise funds, and send as many children to school, but it is to let them become self-sufficient and responsible for their own future. To achieve that goal, WINS is setup as a leaderless organization, co-created by all people involved. This book tells the story of the WINS project, how it was initiated and how the children that joined the program thirteen years ago, are now the managing teams of their Learning Centers. The path of the co-creation of WINS was filled with many mystical coincidences. And as coincidences don't exist, it shows us that there were other metaphysical energies supporting this project and that there is more between heaven an earth...

During the Georgian period there was a remarkable proliferation of seductive visual imagery and written accounts of female performers. Focusing on the close relationship between the dramatic and visual arts at this time, this beautiful and stimulating book explores popular ideas of the actress as coquette, whore, celebrity, muse, and creative agent, charting her important symbolic role in contemporary attempts to professionalize both the theatre and the practice of fine art. Gill Perry shows how artists such as Gainsborough, Reynolds, Hoppner or Lawrence produced complex images of female performers as fashion icons, coquettes, dignified queens or creative artists. The result is a rich interdisciplinary study of the Georgian actress.Published for the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art

For over sixty years Brendan Gill has been a contented inmate of the singular institution known as the New Yorker. This affectionate account of the magazine, long known as a home for congenital unemployables, is a celebration of its wards and attendants,William Shawn, Harold Ross's gentle and courtly successor as editor the incorrigible mischief-maker James Thurber the two Whites, Katherine and E. B. John O'Hara, "master of the fancied slight" and, among a hundred others, Peter Arno, Saul Steinberg, Edmund Wilson, and Lewis Mumford. Brendan Gill has known them all, and by virtue of his virtually total recall, keen eye, and impeccable prose, his diverting portraits of these eccentrics in rage and repose are amply supplied with both dimples and warts. Here at the New Yorker ,now updated with a new introduction detailing the reigns of Robert Gottlieb and Tina Brown,is a delightful tour of New York's most glorious madhouse.

The small town of Bridgeford is in crisis. Downtown is deserted, businesses are closing, and the idea of civic pride seems old-fashioned to residents rushing through the streets to get somewhere else. Bridgeford seems to have lost its heart. But there is one thing that just might unite the community -- music. The local choir, a group generally either ignored or mocked by most of Bridgeford's inhabitants, is preparing for an important contest, and to win it they need new members, and a whole new sound. Enlisting (some may say drafting) singers, who include a mother suffering from empty-nest syndrome, a middle-aged man who has just lost his job and his family, and a nineteen-year-old waitress who dreams of reality-TV stardom, the choir regulars must find -- and make -- harmony with neighbors they've been happy not to know for years. Can they all learn to work together, save the choir, and maybe even save their town in the process? All Together Now is a poignant and charming novel about community, family, falling in love -- and the big rewards of making a small change.

There's only room for one Queen Bee: A hilarious and touching novel about the social world of school mothers. It's the start of another school year at St. Ambrose. While the children are busy in the classroom, their mothers are learning sharper lessons. Lessons in friendship. Lessons in betrayal. Lessons in the laws of community, the transience of power...and how to get invited to lunch. Beatrice -- undisputed queen bee. Ruler, by Divine Right, of all school fundraising, this year, last year, and, surely, for many to come. Heather -- desperate to volunteer, desperate to be noticed, desperate to belong. Georgie -- desperate for a cigarette. And Rachel -- watching them all, keeping her distance. But soon to discover taht the line between amused observer and miserable outcast is a thin one. The Hive is a wickedly funny and brilliantly observed story about female friendship, power plays, and the joys and perils (well, mainly perils) of trying to do one's part.
