Natchez On The Mississippi is a book written by Harnett Thomas Kane that provides a detailed account of the history, culture, and people of the city of Natchez, situated on the banks of the Mississippi River. The book offers an insight into the rich and diverse heritage of Natchez, which was once a thriving center of commerce and trade in the American South. The author delves into the early history of Natchez, tracing its roots back to the Native American tribes that inhabited the region. He then explores the impact of European colonization on the area, including the arrival of French and Spanish settlers, and the establishment of a thriving plantation economy based on slave labor. The book also provides a vivid description of the social and cultural life of Natchez during the 19th century, including the city's famous antebellum mansions, its bustling river port, and its vibrant music and arts scene. The author also examines the impact of the Civil War on Natchez and its people, and the subsequent struggles of the city to rebuild and recover in the aftermath of the conflict.Overall, Natchez On The Mississippi is a fascinating and informative account of one of the most historically significant cities in the American South, and a must-read for anyone interested in the region's rich cultural heritage. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. In 2003 and again in 2005, the international community was called by the United Nations to take part in a World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). This two-phased summit placed an unprecedented global spotlight on information and communication issues. At the same time, the WSIS represented a grand experiment in global governance: the active participation of non-governmental stakeholders in the development of public policies at the international level. Digital Solidarities, Communication Policy and Multi-stakeholder Global Governance examines the actors, structures and themes that shaped the WSIS with a particular focus on the role played by civil society. The book investigates how civil society self-organization has continued post-WSIS through the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and other policymaking venues, and reflects on what the WSIS experience reveals about the challenges and opportunities embedded in the notion of multi-stakeholder governance and its implications for understanding global communication.
