Twenty years have passed since Raymond Douglas went to prison for the kidnapping and murder of a local businessman's wife. Now Douglas's daughter has hired private investigator Martin Preuss to track down a previously-unknown accomplice to the crime-who may not even exist. But no sooner does Preuss get involved than he finds himself entangled in two murders, a family whose wealth has bought them nothing but trouble, a body discarded in a dumpster, and a web of deceit stretching across metropolitan Detroit from the megarich suburbs to a hardscrabble trailer park. AN UNCERTAIN ACCOMPLICE blends greed, misplaced loyalties, and the cascading effects of violence into a riveting crime novel that's impossible to put down.
A young man takes a walk on the wild side and ends up clinging to life in a suburban Detroit motel. When private investigator Martin Preuss searches for the reason, he plunges into the young man's dark world of secrets and lies. Questions multiply: How is the young man involved with a missing prostitute? What's the link to a local rap mogul who moonlights as the city's main drug supplier? Why is a stone-cold killer out for revenge with Preuss in his cross-hairs? And-most upsetting of all-why is a local crime boss threatening Preuss's beloved handicapped son? "Thought-provoking, inspiring, and extremely satisfying"-5-star Amazon review
In the bleakest of post-apocalyptic futures, Mae belongs to an aging tribe of women who eke out their desperate survival in an abandoned underground mine. When she protests against a plot to usurp the leadership of the tribe from her lifelong companion, Mae finds herself in a nightmarish situation: she is banished to the Upground without food, water, or protection. There she is prey to all the dangers of her world. Cascading climate disasters have rendered the earth poisoned and uninhabitable, and men who are former soldiers scarred by endless wars rove the land to unleash their violence and hatred on any unlucky wanderers who cross their paths. How will Mae survive? Betrayed by her tribe, at the mercy of her world, can the old woman muster enough skill and intelligence-and luck-to make it through her exile? This gripping thriller of survival is a stand-alone, self-contained sequel to Book 1 in the Dry Earth Series, "The Bright and Darkened Lands of the Earth."
When PI Martin Preuss investigates the gruesome murder of a history professor, the twisting trail leads him across the metropolitan Detroit region, from a Buddhist temple to the gathering storm of white supremacist terrorism. Will all his wits and skills be enough to navigate through the hate to find the killer? In the House of Night is a timely, gripping novel of guilt and redemption. "Levin is a pro at crafting intriguing plots, memorable characters, and scenes that will keep you turning pages." -5-★ review

FROM THE BESTSELLING, CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED AUTHOR OF THERE'S MORE THAN ONE WAY HOME COMES A ROMANTIC COMEDY SET IN 21ST CENTURY SAN FRANCISCO, WHERE DIFFERENCES ARE CELEBRATED AND EVERYONE FITS IN ... EXCEPT WHEN THEY DON'T. Anna Kagen had her heart broken five years ago--so badly that she can't imagine ever having another man in her life. Her ex-husband, Alex, would like her to stay single: that would ensure that he has control of their children, Jack, a 16-year-old on the autism spectrum, and five-year-old Marissa, whose "giftedness" might be wishful thinking on his part, since he needs someone to achieve his own unfulfilled ambitions. As for Jack, he's ready to open his heart: to the lissome redhead and high school queen bee, Ashleigh. And she's taking an interest in him When Anna reconnects with Jason, a man from her past who was once kind to her and who has a special needs son of his own, they seem destined to become a new family. But not if their ex-spouses have anything to say about it....

This book highlights the stories of women from premodern history and literature through models of adaptations, retellings, and criticism such as poems, plays, and essays. In reviving these voices from the background, it widens the appeal and accessibility of scholarship in the humanities.Creative composing processes draw research through the imagination and experience of the writer, an act which can help explore qualities of historical events and literary figures that are still relevant today. The four authors of this book demonstrate these approaches through creative adaptations and responses to Biblical and Classical writings, Greek mythological figures, medieval narratives, powerful historical women, plays by Shakespeare, and works by other early modern English writers. What distinguishes this book from other scholarship on the premodern is its collaborative and interdisciplinary foundation, as well as its emphasis on literary and hybrid genres.Offering interdisciplinary ways of reading, thinking about, and reconceiving literature and scholarship in a way that invites dialogue and further creative responses, this volume provides humanities teachers with effective pedagogical tools to inspire deeper engagement and understanding in their students.
