A Man of Few Words

A Man of Few Words

A Man of Few Words is a collection of 50 flash fiction stories by Stephen L. Thompson. How does a teenager work up the courage to call a girl? What would happen if a "T-Rex on steroids" attacked a city? Why do science fiction writers make the best lovers? How does a company get to Second Base with VIPs? These questions and more are explored by Stephen using less than 1000 words and in various genres from humor to horror and general fiction to science fiction. The majority of the stories have been previously published (most by Stephen himself on his website) but all have been revised for this collection. In addition, each piece is accompanied by some background information giving a fuller story experience. Book excerpt - story "Until the End" Anne moved her chair next to her husband Gregory. From her purse she took a thick paperback, bought just over a week before. Putting on her glasses, she studied the glossy cover and read the blurb on the back. Shaking her head, she said, "I never did see why you read these sorts of novels." She opened to the receipt used as a bookmark and said, "You only had forty-some pages left." Without knowing anything about the characters or plot, she began reading the end of the story to her husband as he lay silently in his best suit.
Å gjenoppdage organismen

Å gjenoppdage organismen

Stephen L. Talbott

"The river always wins, Sabastian, and so do I." Sabastian Habeck, divorcee, miserable drunk, compulsive smoker, staunch enemy of technology, and private investigator, ushers in the new year with a new case: a young woman has gone missing, and no one seems to care. While Sabastian begins his search for Annabelle Lansing, a shopkeeper also begs him to help her nephew. But as he stumbles through the gloomy city of Des Moines, Iowa, he begins to realize that more sinister forces are at play. From drug fronts to corporate politics, everyone he encounters appears to have a secret to hide. He begins to wonder: does Annabelle even want to be found? Previously published as New Year Gone, revisit this story by Stephen L. Brayton, featuring a new book cover, a fresh edit, and a new ending that may surprise you. Fans of the original story will have much to discover while still enjoying Brayton's compelling writing and Sabastian's sharp wit.

Becoming a True Disciple: The Revolution of Spirit-Led Disciples of Christ shares the experiences and insights of Dr. Stephen L. Gray. He recounts his journey as a follower of Jesus Christ who heard, heeded, and acted on GodOs calling to become a missionary. He followed that summons and traveled to the coastal regions of Tanzania and Kenya in East Africa. There he worked as a witness to Jesus Christ, sharing the gospel so that others might become disciples led by the Holy Spirit. The narrative and reflection in Becoming a True Disciple leads the reader to contemplate topics like being a disciple, spiritual growth, the Holy Spirit, a devotional life, prayer, honoring GodOs word, renewing the mind, creating a spiritual environment, faith, and joining in ChristOs Great Commission. Becoming a True Disciple: The Revolution of Spirit-Led Disciples of Christ resists falling into the trap of trying to teach discipleship as a process that one may implement.

Prayer is perhaps the largest unexplored frontier of the Christian faith. We remain perplexed on so many of the basics. Does God answer prayer today as He did for Joshua or for Jesus? How do we catalogue our requests that were never answered? What is the secret-sauce to answered prayer? And what's the logic behind God's provision of funds for a church parking lot, as tearful petition for the sick and dying seems to yield no visible benefit? These are legitimate questions, and while PROVISIONS doesn't attempt to answer all of them, it does provide a fresh experience with much in encouraging evidence that God is still answering prayers Beyond theory and sermonizing, PROVISIONS is an unfiltered, unapologetic, true and intimate accounting of a three-decade adventure in the wilderness of prayer. Here, author and minister, Stephen Meeks candidly shares his personal journey of questioning, doubting, and ultimately experiencing the God who hears....and who answers. While not address every possible scenario, PROVISIONS adds much detail to the map of prayer for those who aspire to investigate the mysteries of communion and communication with God. Effervescing with hope, inspiration, and guidance, coming generations of praying men and women will find in PROVISIONS help they'll need because there are still vast, unexplored spaces.
What a Bee Knows

What a Bee Knows

For many of us, the buzzing of a bee elicits panic. But the next time you hear that low droning sound, look closer: the bee has navigated to this particular spot for a reason using a fascinating set of tools. She may be using her sensitive olfactory organs, which provide a 3D scent map of her surroundings. She may be following visual landmarks or instructions relayed by a hive-mate. She may even be tracking an electrostatic path left by other bees. What a Bee Knows: Exploring the Thoughts, Memories, and Personalities of Bees invites us to follow bees’ mysterious paths and experience their alien world. Although their brains are incredibly small - just one million neurons compared to humans’ 100 billion - bees have remarkable abilities to navigate, learn, communicate, and remember. In What a Bee Knows, entomologist Stephen Buchmann explores a bee’s way of seeing the world and introduces the scientists who make the journey possible. We travel into the field and to the laboratories of noted bee biologists who have spent their careers digging into the questions most of us never thought to ask (for example: Do bees dream? And if so, why?). With each discovery, Buchmann’s insatiable curiosity and sense of wonder is infectious. What a Bee Knows will challenge your idea of a bee’s place in the world - and perhaps our own. This lively journey into a bee’s mind reminds us that the world is more complex than our senses can tell us.
