This beautifully illustrated full-color hardback explores the life and work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, alongside a selection of his best artwork. Pierre-Auguste Renoir was one of the foremost Impressionist artists, known for his en plein air scenes of middle-class leisure. But Renoir's primary interest lay indoors, in depictions of sensuous female nudes and intimate domestic scenes, painted in a warm, bright palette. This book explores the life and work of this leading light of Impressionism, showcasing his best-loved artwork alongside fascinating biographical detail. It also examines the development of his artistic practices, which began to diverge from many other Impressionist painters as he incorporated some elements of a classical style into his work. ABOUT THE SERIES The Art Masters series brings together beautiful hardback monographs of some of the most significant artists in history, looking at their lives, techniques and inspirations, as well as presenting a lavish selection of their best work.
Retired theatre professor and attorney David Stevens began blogging in February 2012. This book is a collection of his blogs through August 2014. He has, he says, the academic habit of writing about whatever he is thinking about, so his blog deals with legal issues, theatrical issues, political issues, and personal reminiscences. Eight essays included in this book constituted his legal memoir, For Three Weeks I Owned the University of Illinois. Five more served as early drafts of chapters of his textbook, The Art and Craft of Play Directing. Some six essays make up his as yet unpublished theatrical memoir. Also included are portions of chapters from his other academic books, as well as a chapter from his yet-unfinished novel. Finally, Stevens rants effectively about the unconstitutional attempts of the Illinois legislature to reduce or eliminate the automatic annual increases in state retiree pensions, as well as other political issues such as the electoral college and the 2012 presidential election.

The story of a girl who is doing everything to hurt herself and a mother who would try anything to try to save her.True, she had stopped coming down for breakfast. Stayed up in her room, ran out the door late for school, missed the bus and had to have a ride. But you think, well, that's how they are, aren't they, teenagers? And you try to remember how you were, but you were different and the times were different and it was so long ago. And she's suddenly so angry at you, but then, another time, she's just the same. She's just your little girl. You sit with her and you talk about something, or you go shopping for school clothes and everything seems all right. And you forget how you stood in her room and how the center of your stomach felt so cold. When you found the cigarette. When you found the blue pipe. When you found the little bag she said was aspirin.
A six-generation tale told from the perspective of matriarch Gussie Locke explores how abandonment played a pivotal role in her life, from her decision to run away from home and her struggles as a single mother to her own daughter's flight and her grandchildren's efforts to find answers, in a story set against the panoramic backdrop of the American West in the twentieth century. Reprint. 15,000 first printing.
