A pioneer of Bengali Literature from India, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee presents life in Bengali in The Poison Tree. Nagendra Natha Datta is about to travel by boat. It is the month Joisto (May - June), the time of storms. His wife, Surja Mukhi, had adjured him, saying, "Be careful; if a storm arises be sure you fasten the boat to the shore. Do not remain in the boat." Nagendra had consented to this, otherwise Surja Mukhi would not have permitted him to leave home; and unless he went to Calcutta his suits in the Courts would not prosper. Nagendra Natha was a young man, about thirty years of age, a wealthy zemindar (landholder) in Zillah Govindpur. He dwelt in a small village which we shall call Haripur. He was travelling in his own boat. The first day or two passed without obstacle. The river flowed smoothly on - leaped, danced, cried out, restless, unending, playful. On shore, herdsmen were grazing their oxen - one sitting under a tree singing, another smoking, some fighting, others eating. Inland, husbandmen were driving the plough, beating the oxen, lavishing abuse upon them, in which the owner shared.

Micro and Nanophased Polymeric Composites: Durability Assessment in Engineering Applications provides a comprehensive review of in-service environmental damage and degradation studies of FRP composites in a broad range of different applications. End-users such as academic and industrial researchers and materials scientists and engineers working in the design, analysis, and manufacture of composite material systems will be able to identify the possible superior advantages and limitations of FRP composites in various applications. Particular emphasis is given on the identification of various failure micro-mechanisms leading to unprecedented failure in different harsh and hostile environments. Divided into two distinct parts, the first section focuses on fundamentals, with key chapters on the main constituents of FRP composites, mechanical properties, characterization techniques, and processing and fabrication techniques. Part two focuses on polymer composites under different in-service applications, including the marine and space environment, chemical and corrosive environments, high and low temperature environments, and other critical environments.

The law of privilege is recognized as a fundamental right essential to the function of the rule of law. This book provides a comprehensive reference to legal professional privilege in both contentious and non-contentious contexts, addressing legal advice and litigation privilege, as well as privilege against self-incrimination and without prejudice privilege. Providing detailed coverage of the nature of privilege, how it arises, how it is lost, and its limits, the book begins with an outline of the law and policy underlying privilege, before providing guidance on issues that arise regularly in practice. These issues include exceptions (with a detailed analysis of the iniquity exception), multi-jurisdictional issues, procedural matters, and challenges like pre-existing and partly privileged documents. It also covers the loss of legal professional privilege (including loss of confidence, and implied and express waiver), the linked area of being without prejudice privilege, its scope, exceptions, rules governing waiver, and the position in respect of mediation, as well as joint and common interest privilege. Systematically updated to cover all significant developments in privilege law, this fourth edition considers the wealth of recent case law that has been published and includes new sections addressing the issues of privilege that arise in criminal proceedings and Britain's withdrawal from the European Union. Written by experts from Fountain Court chambers, The Law of Privilege is unrivalled for its logical structure and clarity, with extensive cross-referencing and useful summaries ensuring ease of understanding and quick access to information. It is an essential reference tool for practitioners in all fields of practice and students of Civil and Criminal Procedure, providing a concise route through the complexities of privilege law.

The perpetual flow of understanding between phase transformation that controls grain/microstructures and heat treatment which decides the size of grains/microstructures of steels is not well articulated in the perspective of undergraduate students. In Phase Transformations and Heat Treatments of Steels, theories of phase transformation have been used to obtain a desirable phase or combination of phases by performing appropriate heat treatment operations, leading to unification of both the concepts. Further, it includes special and critical heat treatment practices, case studies, local and in-service heat treatments, curative and preventive measures of heat treatment defects for several common and high-performance applications.Features: Presents fundamentals of phase transformation in steels Analyzes basics of phase transformation due to heat treatment of steel under various environmental conditions Explains application of heat treatment for different structural components Discusses heat treatment defects and detection Emphasizes heat treatment of special steels and in-situ heat treatment practices
