Three weeks after the death of Archibald MacLeish in April 1982, the Archibald MacLeish Symposium, initiated to pay tribute to the poet, playwright and critic on his 90th birthday, was held at Greenfield Community College. This book contains the proceedings of that event and is the only collection of criticism by major scholars on the poet's work. Among the forty people who speak on these pages are not only scholars and poets like William Heyen, Donald Hall, Judson Jerome, Richard Wilbur, Robert Penn Warren, but also respected and well-known statesmen like John Kenneth Galbraith, Edward Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. Other well-known Americans such as Charles Kuralt, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., and Henry Steele Commager are also represented.
The Bargaining Manager

The Bargaining Manager

Bernard A. Ramundo

Ramundo demonstrates that bargaining is the logical substitute for bossing and the reality of the expanded negotiating role of the manager. He establishes that negotiation is a technical managerial skill which can fill the void created by the absence of meaningful management process. To resolve the dilemma that bargaining is inherently neutral and can be abused, he shows how advocacy and other pursuit of personal interest can be controlled by the organization. He concludes by proposing that his effective-negotiation system, shown to be easily assimilated and most compatible with the management process, be institutionalized as an integral part of that process. Ramundo's approach is refreshingly basic in identifying commitment to the organization and effective managerial process as the keys to more effective management.Every organization is faced with the need to improve competitiveness if it is to prosper in its task environment. Management must respond to this challenge by a return to the basics of committed service to the organization and improved operational performance: the core elements of effective management.Management by bargain is a broad concept. It means that consensus development through bargaining is now involved in all of the functions and roles of the manager. Bargaining is the process of the workplace. Bargaining outside the organization has also expanded because improved competitiveness demands cooperative activities with other organizations. The result for the organization is that negotiation is truly everywhere. To serve his organization well, the manager needs formal training in negotiating skills and the opportunity to gain experience as a bargaining manager. The organization should mandate training in the effective-negotiation system and use of the system as the operational adjunct to management process. Manager-negotiators, empowered and motivated by the effective-negotiation system, can serve the organization better.

Discover how to use HILIC to analyze and better understand polar compounds An increasingly popular analytical method, hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) has the ability to retain and separate polar compounds that are often difficult to analyze by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or other analytical methods. Offering a comprehensive review, this book enables readers to develop a fundamental understanding of how HILIC works and then apply that knowledge to develop and implement a variety of practical applications. Hydrophilic Interaction Chromatography begins with discussions of HILIC retention mechanisms, stationary phases, and general method development. This sets the foundation for the book's extensive coverage of applications. The authors address unique separation challenges for bioanalytical, environmental, pharmaceutical, and biochemical applications. Moreover, there is a thorough discussion of HILIC in two-dimensional chromatography. With contributions from leading analytical scientists who have extensive experience in HILIC as well as HPLC, Hydrophilic Interaction Chromatography serves as a practical guide for researchers, featuring: Detailed examples of HILIC methods and development approachesThorough explanations of retention mechanisms and the impact of stationary phase and mobile phase properties on separationsStep-by-step guidance for developing efficient, sensitive, and robust HILIC methodsReferences to the primary literature at the end of each chapter Hydrophilic Interaction Chromatography is written for scientists who use or develop analytical methods for the separation of polar compounds. In particular, these researchers will discover how HILIC can be used to analyze and better understand the composition of pharmaceutical, bioanalytical, biochemical, chemical, food, and environmental samples.

A brief plot description is given for each series entry, followed by the individual film titles with corresponding years, directors and performers. Animated pictures, documentaries and concert films are not included but movies released direct to video are.

The Caspian Sea is a 700 mile-long body of water in central Asia, landlocked between Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan. While not a littoral state, nearby Uzbekistan is seen by some as being in the Caspian Sea region in view of its energy resources. It is estimated that the Caspian Sea region holds in reserves 16-33 billion barrels of oil and 236-337 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in reserve. This new book explores details related to energy exploration and the potentials of trade and production in this geo-politically significant region. The possible repercussions on OPEC are explored as well.

Genre authors, like genre fiction, often get no respect. Traditional biographical dictionaries tend to focus on established authors with literary credentials, and if genre writers are included, they are certainly not the focus of the book. Yet genre fans hunger for information about their favorite writers. This compilation focuses exclusively on genre fiction authors, more specifically today's most popular genre authors. It profiles representatives from all major genres (mystery/detective, crime, adventure/suspense, thriller, horror, fantasy, science fiction, western, historical, women's, and romance). Most are contemporary authors, but a few classics who are still in print and widely read (e.g., J.R.R. Tolkien), are included. Featured authors include Julia Alvarez, Maeve Binchy, Lawrence Block, Clive Cussler, Tony Hillerman, Jan Karon, Faye Kellerman, Dean Koontz, Charles de Lint, Robert Ludlum, Terry McMillan, Anne Rice, Nora Roberts, Scott Turow, and Stuart Woods. A wonderful reference, particularly for readers' advisors and adult and teen readers seeking information about their favorite writers, this book can also be used as a source for student reports and research papers.
