A heartwarming and exciting story about perseverance, service, sacrifice and friendship and the amazing bond between man and his best friend. Magic comes in many forms. On a quest to discover new purpose and his place in the world, a wounded Native American veteran struggles to regain his edge. The bond between man and dog is timeless, but the dog whisperer shares a mystical connection that defies explanation. Dakota Dixon is a complicated blend of comical prankster and master of irreverence. An unlikely recipient of a rare gift that is highly revered by his people, he is out to prove a radical new training concept for an intelligent K9 warrior. Treated as an outcast on the reservation, Dakota's life has been about trying to fit in. His life journey has led him toward using his powers to fulfill his destiny as a dog whisperer. He believes doing so will bring him the acceptance he craves, but his destiny can only come at a steep price. Dakota doesn't fully grasp the power he possesses; mainly using it to enlist his trusty canines in pranks against his tormentors. Serving in Afghanistan, the pranks continue to provide relief from the stresses of long deployments. After suffering traumatic injuries, he faces a medical discharge and a long road to recovery. In an odd twist of fate, he meets Keith Barnes and his Collie, Jack; turned therapy dog. Keith encourages Dakota to test his training concepts on the mischievous Collie. After joining an elite INTERPOL unit, Dakota becomes entangled in a web of espionage, international intrigue, and covert operations. The team embarks on a high stakes, midnight raid to an abandoned castle in the mountains of Romania. With little time to avert a government coup, he and Jack must combine training and Dakota's unusual and untested powers to prove themselves. To achieve success he must decide if he is willing to pay the price foretold by his grandfather, as he discovers more than one path to achieve his destiny.

We go through life, focusing our attention on many things. But how much do we focus on ourselves? We may be aware of many things, but are we self-aware? This is a question our contemporary culture asks us to consider more and more, and words like "self-awareness," "personal identity," "authenticity," and "mindfulness" are becoming not just buzz-words but virtues. The ancient dictum "know thyself" reverberates in all corners of our lives, from Disney characters on our TVs to DISC profiles at our workplaces. Some of the more mindful members of our society may even be tempted to disdain those who are not as mindful as they are. But what if our self-aware culture, hailing us to pursue our true selves, is unaware of itself? What if our definitions of true and false self-understanding are myopic, slanted towards a narrow solipsism that is actually leading people away from authenticity, while all the while championing it? If so, how would we know? Who is best able to define these things and to teach us how to know ourselves truly? Matthew Brett Vaden traces the wisdom of past and modern-day sages to discover how we can truly discover ourselves.

Evaluating Campaign Quality

Evaluating Campaign Quality

pokkari
For a number of years, voters and academic observers have been dissatisfied with a number of elements of American campaigns. Contemporary races are seen as too negative, too superficial, and too unfair or misleading. Based on these complaints, a variety of reform organizations have targeted millions of dollars to improve the situation. Through their efforts and those within the academic community, a wide range of reform initiatives have been undertaken, such as voluntary codes of conduct, industry self-regulation, certificate programs, tougher ethics rules for consultants, and the encouragement of more substantive venues. This book seeks to evaluate whether these activities have improved the level of campaign discourse and conduct in US House and Senate campaigns and argues that while individual reform efforts have achieved some of their stated objectives, the overall effect of these reform efforts has been disappointing.

William Hazlitt (1778-1830) was an essayist, critic, painter, and philosopher. In this 1977 study, R. L. Brett draws attention at the outset to the biographical standpoint which Hazlitt always adopts in his writings on literature and the arts, and recalls that Hazlitt considered the essay form as 'ideally fitted to approach life with a method that is concrete and particular, rather than a priori and theoretical'.A volume in the Writers and Their Work series, which draws upon recent thinking in English studies to introduce writers and their contexts. Each volume includes biographical material, an examination of recent criticism, a bibliography and a reappraisal of a major work by the writer. @font-face {font-family: "Cambria Math"; panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family: roman; mso-font-pitch: variable; mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;}@font-face {font-family: Calibri; panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4; mso-font-charset:0; mso-generic-font-family: swiss; mso-font-pitch: variable; mso-font-signature: -536859905 -1073732485 9 0 511 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-unhide: no; mso-style-qformat: yes; mso-style-parent: ""; margin:0cm; mso-pagination: widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size:12.0pt; font-family: "Calibri", sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;}.MsoChpDefault {mso-style-type: export-only; mso-default-props: yes; font-size:10.0pt; mso-ansi-font-size:10.0pt; font-family: "Calibri", sans-serif; mso-ascii-font-family: Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family: Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-language: EN-US;}div.WordSection1 {page: WordSection1;}
