Sport, Urban Neoliberalism, and the Politics of Homelessness
This book explores the 21st century practices of using sport and physical activity to engage with social issues and inequalities. Based on two years of ethnographic research exploring and contextualizing one not-for-profit organization, Back on My Feet, which uses running to empower those experiencing homelessness in cities across the US, and including interviews and participant observation, the book takes a critical look at how this organization fits within wider historical dynamics of urban homelessness, race, and neoliberalism in the US. Arguing that such programs and interventions can unintentionally reinforce the systems that create homelessness, the book closely examines aspects of the work of ‘Back on My Feet’ and similar organisations, including how sport and physical activity can help participants foster identities beyond "homeless”, how such programs fit within urban change and homeless discourses, the experiences of both recovery participants and volunteers, and the tension between helping individuals and addressing systemic issues. Empirically rich and challenging some long-held assumptions about the social role of sport and physical activity-led interventions, this is fascinating reading for any advanced student, researcher, practitioner or policy maker working in sport studies and development, cultural studies, urban studies or political science.
My Thoughts on Love: A single man's inner most thoughts on love and life
Within, I share what it's like to be a mature, fifty something single man, needing, feeling, trying to reach out for love. Things are different now. There are responsibilities, commitments. We've created our direction. It's harder to change - to adapt. Are you the one. Life moves quickly. Others already have their path. Could you be close enough? It requires change, adapting, enjoining. There will be togetherness. A little further. "Even those who are looking shield. They block. What's going on? Not everyone will be a match. We have to keep looking. The spirit inside of our heart keeps pushing. There is our task. It won't let us falter. Much is to be done." copyright 2019 Bryan C. Dulsky. All rights reserved.
Aristotle on Happiness, Virtue, and Wisdom

Aristotle on Happiness, Virtue, and Wisdom

Aristotle thinks that happiness is an activity – it consists in doing something – rather than a feeling. It is the best activity of which humans are capable and is spread out over the course of a life. But what kind of activity is it? Some of his remarks indicate that it is a single best kind of activity, intellectual contemplation. Other evidence suggests that it is an overarching activity that has various virtuous activities, ethical and intellectual, as parts. Numerous interpreters have sharply disagreed about Aristotle's answers to such questions. In this book, Bryan Reece offers a fundamentally new approach to determining what kind of activity Aristotle thinks happiness is, one that challenges widespread assumptions that have until now prevented a dialectically satisfactory interpretation. His approach displays the boldness and systematicity of Aristotle's practical philosophy.

Determination of Chlorinated Solvent Contamination in an Upward Flow Constructed Wetland
The purpose of this study is to determine chlorinated solvent contamination levels in an upward flow constructed wetland at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), Ohio. A stratified grid sampling methodology will be used in sampling the contaminated groundwater. Analysis will be accomplished by means of purge-and-trap gas chromatography. The contaminant concentration levels will be used to enhance the design and construction of man- made wetlands used to remove chlorinated solvents from aquifers. PCE levels declined from an average of 33.97 ppb in the inflow stream to an average of 3.65 ppb in the upper layer, a 91% reduction. High concentrations occurred in areas where high hydraulic pressure gradients and hydraulic conductivities combined to allow contaminated water to migrate to the upper layers of the wetland with minimal contact time for reduction. Removing these areas from the data set increased the PCE reduction efficiency to nearly 98% with an upper level concentration average of 0.84 ppb. Trichloroethene (TCE) inflow rates averaged 0.63 ppb while TCE concentrations in the upper layer averaged 0.175 ppb. TCE concentrations peaked in the middle layer of the wetland suggesting that reduction of PCE was occurring there and in the bottom layer. International rules on trade in services and intellectual property are ’new’ additions to the multilateral trading system, but both have played an important role in the system since their entry. Accompanied by a detailed introduction, this volume contains essays which cover not only the law and jurisprudence of these topics but also the underlying economics and politics behind their incorporation into the multilateral system and continued prominence. The volume provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the development of these controversial and increasingly important areas of international trade law.
Penrith Through Time

Penrith Through Time

Penrith, a small, but characterful and historic market town, was known as Epiacum during the Roman occupation, significant through lead and silver mining. Following the accession of James 1 to the British throne, the Borders became less warridden. Penrith emerged as a prosperous market town during the Victorian era. Most significant was the coming of the railway, stimulating trade and visitor numbers. Later, bus and commercial road traffic expanded, and 'trucking' grew important. For the year 2000, the Penrith Millennium Trail was commissioned, a series of walks starting from the town centre and radiating like flower petals. This anthology of photographs presents Penrith from the early 1900s to 2013. The story is 'Penrith changing', comparing the new with old at a time of rapid evolution and population growth. This unique selection of images and informative captions is essential reading for anyone who knows and loves this town.

Trajectories meets an urgent need in both undergraduate and graduate study of the Old Testament. Too often Old Testament theology focuses on the end-product and leaves the process obscured. Each chapter of Trajectories provides a clear path connecting biblical research to theological conclusions. The final chapter offers a step-by-step method for completing a thorough hermeneutical analysis framed within a discussion of the gospel message. Trajectories also seeks to situate Old Testament theology in relation to global and generational trends influencing the church and evangelical theology. The implications of globalization and the rise of millennials on Old Testament theology are critical and thought-provoking topics for discussion. Chapters in Trajectories are organized thematically, so the textbook can serve as a companion study guide to courses in the Old Testament and New Testament. In addition, the exploration of topics allows each study to link to the New Testament. Each chapter concludes with tangible applications for the contemporary Christian church and with questions for group discussion and reflection. ""Here is a book well worth reading. The authors provide a masterful road for the average reader who wishes to understand the teaching of major Old Testament themes, their understanding by the writers of the New Testament, and their essential meaning for today. From creation to the digital age, we are introduced to the great works of God and the means by which we can interpret this largest part of the Bible as a valuable resource in our faith and life."" --Richard S. Hess, Professor of Old Testament, Denver Seminary ""Biblical Theology at its best . . . Firmly rooted in the witness of Scripture, focused on Christ, connected to contemporary faith and life."" --Mark J. Boda, Professor of Old Testament, McMaster Divinity College Bryan C. Babcock is an adjunct instructor at Moody Bible Institute-Distance Learning, teaching and developing courses in Old Testament studies. James Spencer serves as Vice President and Dean of Moody Bible Institute, and teaches courses in biblical studies. Russell L. Meek is Assistant Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Louisiana College and also serves as an adjunct instructor with Moody Bible Institute-Distance Learning.

The Offensive Church

The Offensive Church

Crises around race have put the church in a defensive posture, always reacting to racial conflicts in society. But Jesus wants more. He wants Christians to play offense by discipling people into a new humanity, where we push beyond mere diversity and into a biblical vision for ethnic unity. Bryan Loritts calls Christians to proactively and intentionally live out the embodied reality of a people at one with one another. We play offense by practicing a robust gospel, preparing reliable leadership, and providing relational environments so that the church becomes the aroma of Christ to our culture and gains ground against the demonic foothold of racism in all its forms.
