"One of the most adorable, big-hearted, charming books in existence." --Becky Albertalli, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda What If It's Us meets To All the Boys I've Loved Before in this upbeat and heartfelt boy-meets-boy romance that feels like a modern twist on a '90s rom-com Everyone knows about the dare: Each week, Bryson Keller must date someone new--the first person to ask him out on Monday morning. But Kai Sheridan never expected Bryson to say yes to him. As the days go by, he discovers there's more to Bryson beneath the surface, and dating him begins to feel less like an act and more like the real thing. Kai knows how the story of a gay boy liking someone straight ends. With his heart on the line, he's awkwardly trying to navigate senior year at school, at home, and in the closet, all while grappling with the fact that this "relationship" will last only five days. After all, Bryson Keller is popular, good-looking, and straight . . . right? Drawing on his own experiences, Kevin van Whye delivers an uplifting and poignant coming-out love story. Readers will root for Kai and Bryson to share their hearts with the world--and with each other.

In recent years there has been a growing interest in problems of theory and method in the field of art history. Semiology, phenomenology, feminism, analytical philosophy and Marxism have all contributed to a lively debate among art historians and have helped to stimulate new research. This volume draws together some of the authors who have been most prominent and influential in recent methodological debates and enables them to develop their views. The contributions include Norman Bryson on semiology and the limits of meaning; Arthur C. Danto on description and pictorial perception; Rosalind Krauss on language; Linda Nochlin on gender and power; Michael Podro on depiction; David Summers on image and metaphor; Richard Wollheim on the role of spectator. Each of these major contributions is subjected to critical scrutiny by other well-known figures in the field. A unique volume which will establish itself as a key reference point for the discussion of art historical method.

What is evolution? Few ideas are more controversial - and more misunderstood - than the biological theory of evolution. But it's also the case that, as a great scientist once said, Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution. So, if students want to truly understand biology in all of its forms, they will need to understand what evolution - the scientific idea - is. This volume in the Greenwood Guides to Great Ideas in Science series enables the reader to learn what evolution is by charting the course of the ideas of biological change from the ancient time to the present. Accessible and comprehensive, Evolution: A Historical Perspective shows how the great thinkers of the past and present mean when they say something evolved. Evolution: A Historical Perspective discusses the main components that make evolution such a singularly powerful scientific theory: Early attempts at explaining biological change, and scientific attempts to explain discoveries about life on earth; Charles Darwin's introduction of natural selection in The Origin of Species; Gregor Mendel's gene, and the merging of modern genetics and evolution in the Modern Synthesis; James Watson and Francis Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA, and the biochemical explanation for biological change The volume includes a glossary, a timeline of events, and a bibliography of works that will be useful in further research.

The court of the exchequer, which was the ancient court of tax claims, assumed an equity jurisdiction in the sixteenth century which continued until 1841. This book describes the rise, development and abolition of this part of the court. Professor Bryson begins with a discussion of the rise of the equity side of the court during the reign of Henry VIII or Edward VI and its rapid growth under Elizabeth I. This is followed by a note on the generalizing of its jurisdiction at the beginning of the Interregnum. The third chapter deals with the duties of the principal officers - the lord treasurer, the chancellor of the exchequer, the barons of the exchequer, the king's remembrances, and the eight sworn clerks. The fourth chapter traces the equity procedures and describes the archives, which are now in the Public Record Office in London. This chapter will be useful to those who wish to compare this court with another court of equity or to use the exchequer records. Chapter 5 sets out the reasons for the suppression of the equity jurisdiction. This book supplies important information for the lawyer, the historian and the archivist.

In this highly original book Norman Bryson applied 'structuralist' and 'post-structuralist' approaches to French Romantic Painting. He considers the work of David, Ingres and Delacroix as artists who found themselves within an artistic tradition that had nothing creative to offer them.
