Prayers in Dialogue provides a responsive prayer for every Sunday of the church year in Series A. Reflecting the themes from the gospel texts, this worship aid is appropriate for use in congregations following either the Common (Consensus) or the Lutheran lectionary. Each prayer calls for participation by the presiding minister, a worship assistant, and the congregation. A special feature offers prayers for the lighting of the four candles of the Advent wreath. In congregations where copies are not purchased for every worshiper, purchase of single copies includes permission to duplicate each Sunday's prayer for distribution with the Sunday bulletin. For congregations where copies are purchased in quantity, a gift page provided in the front of each copy can be used to indicate the name(s) of individuals who contributed the book for placement in the pew. C. David Godshall is pastor of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Previously having served St. Mark Lutheran Church, Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, and St. Luke Lutheran Church, Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, he is a pastor in the Lutheran Church in America. A graduate of Muhlenberg College and The Lutheran Seminary at Philadelphia, he is married and the father of three daughters. The present series of three prayer books of which the present volume is a part is an extension of a similar publication based on a single-year lectionary that Pastor Godshall authored for publication by CSS Publishing Company in 1972.

THE ANGEL OF MUSIC is the complete series of four novels, loosely based on the novel The Phantom of the Opera, by Gaston Leroux. BOOK 1 SANTA MONICA Twelve-year-old Christine Daa travels with her widowed father to Los Angeles where he hopes to enroll her in the Belen Conservatory of Music. Homeless and destitute, they work as street performers to earn money for food. Raoul Chagny hears Christine singing on the Santa Monica Pier and he is instantly smitten by the beautiful young girl with an angelic voice. BOOK 2 SAINT-TROPEZ Christine receives an unexpected invitation to spend two weeks at the Chagny beach house in Saint-Tropez. The rekindling of romance with Raoul in the south of France is interrupted, however, when Christine meets a handsome, charming, and possibly dangerous new boy, Erik. She returns to school at the Belen Conservatory after a brief, glorious, tragic summer. BOOK 3 SANTA FE Christine travels to Santa Fe where she is offered a summer job working backstage at the legendary Santa Fe Opera House. Rumors abound among the crew that the Opera Ghost has returned. Before singing a single note from the new opera, Sangre de Cristo, the diva La Carlotta becomes violently ill on stage, and Christine is plucked from the audience to sing the leading role. BOOK 4 SANGRE DE CRISTO After being kidnapped off the stage by the Opera Ghost in front of a sold-out house Christine suddenly finds herself the most famous young soprano in the world, swarmed by reporters and paparazzi. Tickets for "reopening night" of Sangre de Cristo are at a premium as Christine takes the stage at the Santa Fe Opera House.

Most people accept the view that the Wright brothers invented the airplane. "Not so " according to American aviation pioneer Augustus Moore Herring. "The aeroplane has a good many daddies." Herring should know; he was there. To Caress the Air is a biographical novel based on Herring's 22-year career in aeronautics. The story takes place in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and chronicles Herring's aeronautical achievements, his ordeals, and his triumph over severe adversity. Seldom acknowledged by historians or authors, Herring was nevertheless portrayed by his cutthroat contemporaries as an "aeronautical hyena" - a surly character who prowled the boundaries of the flying-machine community. Influenced by the Gilded Age idea that a young man could attain a life of accomplishment and honor through hard work, determination, and courage, Herring soon learned that Horatio Alger's "rags to riches" narrative paled in the face of unrelenting rejection. Alger had also suggested that an older, kindly, and prosperous benefactor might be useful in assisting a young man's success. In 1893, at the age of 26, Herring met that person: someone who eventually proved to be his greatest antagonist. To Caress the Air makes use of recently unearthed historical documents and never-before-seen information provided by Herring's heirs. The book's setting is the New York State Supreme Court, Monroe County Courthouse, in Rochester. Herring's story is told through his testimony during the 1921 civil trial, Herring-Curtiss Company v. Glenn H. Curtiss, et al., which provides the platform for flashback scenes that document his dealings with many of the era's aeronautical giants, including Lilienthal, Chanute, Langley, and Curtiss. The novel is rich with accurate technical and biographical details and is accompanied by pertinent footnotes.

To Caress the Air continues to track the progress of Augustus Herring as he prepares to fly his revolutionary powered aeroplane. Gus, still optimistic after a series of nagging technical setbacks, believes that the upcoming trials will be the "next great step" in unraveling the problems of manned, heavier-than-air flight. A series of tragic events pushed Herring to the brink of financial ruin. Moving his family back East, Gus helps to establish the Aero Club of America, where he met Glenn H. Curtiss. The men agree to combine their talents and form the Herring-Curtiss Company, to capitalize on the fledgling U.S. aeroplane market. A combination of greed and ego on Curtiss's part soon drives the business into bankruptcy. Freed from the partnership with Herring, Curtiss and his new companies make millions from the sale of aeroplanes to foreign countries during WWI - machines that incorporated many of Herring's innovations. At war's end, Gus files suit in the New York State Supreme Court, where he petitions for fair compensation on behalf of the investors in the Herring-Curtiss Company. As the trial continues, witnesses for the plaintiff offer in-depth accounts of the Curtiss swindle, present sordid tales regarding the Wright brothers, and describe events involving aviation's master manipulator... Octave Chanute. Herring's wealthy benefactor, Matthias Arnot, and Professor Langley's principal engineer, Charles Manley, add vigor to an already impressive collection of aeronautical personalities who appear throughout Book 2. Acrimony in the courtroom takes a violent turn as hostility builds between the litigants and their respective lawyers; the stress ravages Herring's health and puts the legal proceedings at risk. Will a mistrial be declared? How will the judge rule? An extraordinary, genuine quirk of fate leads to the final resolution of the case. Herring's story stirs controversy and breathes new life into the debate about "Who really invented the aeroplane?"
