With recent advances in computing power and the widespread availability of preference, perception and choice data, such as public opinion surveys and legislative voting, the empirical estimation of spatial models using scaling and ideal point estimation methods has never been more accessible. The second edition of Analyzing Spatial Models of Choice and Judgment demonstrates how to estimate and interpret spatial models with a variety of methods using the open-source programming language R.Requiring only basic knowledge of R, the book enables social science researchers to apply the methods to their own data. Also suitable for experienced methodologists, it presents the latest methods for modeling the distances between points. The authors explain the basic theory behind empirical spatial models, then illustrate the estimation technique behind implementing each method, exploring the advantages and limitations while providing visualizations to understand the results. This second edition updates and expands the methods and software discussed in the first edition, including new coverage of methods for ordinal data and anchoring vignettes in surveys, as well as an entire chapter dedicated to Bayesian methods. The second edition is made easier to use by the inclusion of an R package, which provides all data and functions used in the book. David A. Quantum technologies (QT) are rapidly advancing from scientific propositions to commercial realities. QT leverage quantum mechanics, the physics of sub-atomic particles, to deliver functionalities and performance that are otherwise impossible to obtain. QT have already transformed our daily life through the development of superconductors, lasers, and modern medical imaging. However, the next generation of QT goes further by manipulating previously unexploited quantum phenomena to enable a wide range of new applications, which will have a transformative effect on production, business ecosystems and the innovation strategy of the coming decades. This open access book aims to provide the conceptual frameworks to better understand the economic and managerial implications of this dawning phenomenon. Chapters include discussions of quantum computers, quantum communications, and sensing, imaging and timing technologies, providing succinct descriptions of the technology and theory and devoting analysis to the expected business and organisational impact of these breakthroughs. Strategy and innovation management, sustainability potential and ethics will be explored. It will be of great interest to scholars of innovation, strategy and entrepreneurship, as well as practitioners and policymakers looking to better understand the future of business.
Pioneer aviatrix Jessie "Chubbie" Miller made a significant contribution to aviation history. The first woman to fly from England to her native Australia (as co-pilot with her close friend Captain Bill Lancaster), she was also the first woman to fly more than 8000 miles, to cross the equator in the air and to traverse the Australian continent north to south. Moving to America, Miller was a popular member of a group of female aviators that included Amelia Earhart, Bobby Trout, Pancho Barnes and Louise Thaden. As a competitor in international air races and a charter member of the first organization for women flyers, the Ninety-Nines, she quickly became famous. Her career was interrupted by her involvement in Lancaster's sensational Miami trial for the murder of her lover, Haden Clarke, and by Lancaster's disappearance a few years later while flying across the Sahara desert.

Chris Neil--or Christopher, as his mother, Bonnie, called him--grew up with the ambition and desire to be an NHL hockey player. Through grit and determination, he achieved his goal and left an indelible mark on the Ottawa Senators franchise. Christopher spent many hours as a youngster in Ron and Cathy Pegg's home, providing the author with personal, first-hand knowledge of Neil the hockey player and the man. That friendship continues to this day. In this engaging biography, you'll meet the Neil family and the personalities from the world of hockey that guided and formed Chris Neil throughout his life--a life of athletics, community involvement, and faith. Christopher played over a thousand games in the NHL, all as a member of the Ottawa Senators. He became one of just over fifty players in the history of the league to play a thousand games with one team. The one thousandth game was played in Los Angeles, with his wife, Cait, and all the members of the Pegg family present. Christopher is not the final word on Neil's career, as he continues to serve the hockey community off the ice, but it does tell the tale of a life well lived so far and will inspire hockey fans and people of faith alike.

In 1939, Christopher Isherwood and W H Auden emigrated together to the United States. This title describes Isherwood's search for a new life in California; his work as a screenwriter in Hollywood, his pacifism during World War II and his friendships with such gifted artists and intellectuals as Garbo, Chaplin, Thomas Mann, and more.
In November 1929, Christopher Isherwood - determined to become a 'permanent foreigner' - packed a rucksack and two suitcases and left England on a one-way ticket for Berlin. With incredible candour and wit, Isherwood recalls the decadence of Berlin's night scene and his route to sexual liberation.
