A Wizard without a Wand? How can that be? Aren't Wizard and Wand almost synonomous? In this first book of the series, we meet this Wizard without a Wand - Shmedley Thrumbledack and his closest friends in their first year at some Wizard School. This Wizard School is so expensive, that Shmedley's parents run out of money buying his supplies and don't have enough left over to buy him a Wand. Shmedley is part of a group of kind students dubbed The Tensome. Shmedley is very smart in Wizard Math and knows exactly how much a kajillion is. Rating G; Reading Level Very Easy 5th Grade; Longest Word: WizardetiquetteSchmedley Thumbledack is a young teenage boy on his way to Wizard School. He's got three things going for him:1)When he says his last name, it sounds like thunder and lightning striking somewhere close by.2)He's as smart as the seniors in Wizard Math.3)He has a full scholarship.About that full scholarship. It only pays for things once Schmedley arrives are Wizard School. It doesn't pay for his transportation to Wizard School and home again. That's understandable, but that means he'll have to ride the Wizard School Bus. Even though his parents are very powerful wizards, they never seem to have much money. They certainly won't be able to afford sending him on the Wizard School Train.Schmedley's parents will have to buy his books, even Proper Wizardetiquette (Wizard Etiquette) which is certain to be Shmedley's least favorite subject. They'll even have to buy his books for Wizard Math, even though he's certain to ace out of that subject on day one.And once his parents have finished buying the ticket for the Wizard School Bus, and have bought all of Shmedley's books, they're out of money. And there's not enough left to buy Schmedley a Wand. But everyone knows that if you're going to be a Wizard, you need a Wand. There's just no way that Schmedley can go to Wizard School without a Wand. He would be the laughingstock. Bullies would no doubt pick on him. And the Wizard School would certainly send him home until he can return with a Wand.Yet, here he is on the Bus to Wizard School. Maybe when he arrives, they'll have some used Wands. Maybe he can find one in the lost and found. Maybe somebody will lend him theirs when he needs one. Fat chance of that One thing is certain. Without a Wand, Schmedley will certainly flunk out of Dousing - The Art of Putting Out Spells Gone Awry.Schmedley is off to a new adventure at Wizard School. Without a Wand, he's unable to think about it. And he finds himself totally unprepared for what lies ahead. Some stories about Wizard Schools are rather dark. This one is mysterious, yet light. And there's lots of humor. There will be surprises. And you'll like the ending. This is book one of a ten book series.Genre - Fantasy, Magic, Young Adult (YA), Perhaps Middle Grades (MG), Dragons, Dinosaurs.Wizard Schools seem to have certain things in common. Dragons for instance. But Dinosaurs? Yep, this Wizard school also has those. They also have bullies as do other Wizard Schools. How will Schmedley be able to defend himself from them without his wand? Giants, perhaps. One of the students is very tall and very muscular. Most Wizard Schools have Dormitories. Sometimes they're called houses. This Wizard School calls them hotels. The students at all Wizard Schools cast spells. In this one, they all have other special, magical abilities. If this were a book about superheros, those talents might be called superpowers. They all have teachers or professors, and principals or headmasters or headmistresses. And there are always tests, both the formal and informal kind.

Just like down home is a phrase my Grandpa said a lot. It's a fancy way of saying everything went just fine.My Grandpa had a lot of phrases which he said repeated quite often. Some people call them Hillbilly phrases. But as my Grandpa said, he was a Mountain William, not a Hill Billy. My favorite phrase of his was his response when asked how he was. Why I'm fine as a frog's hair and twice as curly. In this story, Joel September's life is not going that great. He's stuck in a job he really hates, but it pays the bills. But then a crisis happens, one which starts his life flowing in a much better direction. And Joel starts to be aware that very soon his life is going to be just like down home Tonight Joel had no worries. Things were about to change for the better, he could feel it in his bones. "The toe bone's connected to the ... foot bone", Joel began to sing to himself. Well his singing wasn't perfect. It was off-key as usual. It was nice to know he was still human.Joel left the sidewalk and continued on across a field of grass. He kept one eye to the ground, on the lookout for presents left by stray dogs. But somehow, he couldn't focus on the ground tonight. His spirits were just too high. Pretty soon, Joel felt like he was walking on air. It was a wonderful feeling, to feel like you were floating. Joel walked past the Pearly Gates, where St Peter had just posted a "No Trespassing" sign. Joel laughed at the sign and called out, "Very funny Pete", as he walked by. "I thought you'd enjoy it", St Peter called back, and then hurried to take the sign back down. Heaven wouldn't be Joel's destination tonight, nor for a long time to come. He had too much going right for him on earth. And soon, very soon, things would be going so much more rightly.Rating PG13; Reading Level Very Easy 4th Grade; Longest Word: Straightening

Hi, My name is Frank. This is my story.I'm sure there are other bottles in the stream, carrying other stories about what happened. This is what I recall. Some might say, it is my version of the truth. Will we ever know what happened? Some are certain they know, "Preaching it" as it were "from the rooftops". Some are certain, but keep silent, for fear their truth will come out. Most of the world didn't live all the way through those cataclysmic events. Most of us who did are content to just write our stories down, place them in bottles and toss those bottles into the stream. Like most, I'm hoping that somebody downstream will find my story. Then perhaps, all the stories will merge. All the pieces will be put together. And at last we'll finally know what really happened. And of course there will always be those who say that nothing ever happened. That the rest of us just were dreaming or having nightmares. But, I know better. At least I think I do.This is my story of what happened, the night the stars went away.Rating G; Reading Level Easy 6th Grade; Longest Word: Unpleasantness

I lay there struggling for air, the fire-chief straddling me, pumping my lungs with his huge hands. I had never met the fire-chief before. But somehow, I knew this was him. For a moment we looked right into each others' eyes. But he never seemed to notice. Then, he was off me. For a second, I thought I must no longer be struggling for air. Then he was pounding my chest - very hard Too hard So this was what CPR felt like. If I'd had any strength at all I would have plowed my fist right into his jaw to make him stop. But I didn't. These people were trying to help me. But it was no use. I still couldn't breathe. And now, apparently my heart had stopped. But at least I wasn't struggling to breathe anymore. Then an oxygen mask was clamped to my face by the fire-chief's large hand. And I knew they must be rushing me to the hospital. It was all too much. My mind became a swirl. And I went to sleep.I woke up in a rush, sitting up, checking to make sure I was breathing. Then I realized I hadn't. I had woken up in a rush all right. But I was still lying down, unable to move. And as for breathing, that was being done for me. Tube in my throat. Oxygen mask around my head, now held in place by a strap rather than the fire chief's hand. I expected to hear the sound of a patient monitor, like on all those hospital shows. But I didn't. Either it was too faint, or the shows exaggerated it. I realized that TV shows were my only frame of reference. I had never been in a hospital room before, or at least not one where somebody was dying or near death, as I was now. I tried to look around, but couldn't see too much of the room. I was apparently too weak to even turn my head. And besides, I was no longer wearing my glasses. So I wouldn't have been able to make out much at a distance. There was a tube in my throat. That probably meant there were other tubes, other places in my body, if the TV shows could be trusted. It was a thought I didn't want to entertain. Here I was awake in a hospital room, all alone. That must mean I was stable. And I took it for a good sign. How long would it be before somebody else knew I was awake? Would that patient monitor which I couldn't hear, let somebody else know that my vital signs had changed? Or was that only on Star Trek? And had my vital signs changed at all? Just being awake, might not register any change on the monitor. If I could have done more to let somebody know I was awake, I would have. But all I could do was open my eyes, and I couldn't do that very well. I tried to make a sound, tried to scream. But I heard nothing. Maybe I'm deaf, I thought. But there was no reason for me to be deaf. Then again, there wasn't any reason why I should have stopped breathing. No reason why my heart should have stopped. Sure I was a little overweight, but most Americans were these days. So, how long would it be before somebody came? Didn't they make rounds and check on each patient every so many hours? How long had it been since they had checked on me? How long would it be before they checked on me again? What if they forgot me? What it they forgot me forever? Surely somebody would check on me. Perhaps I would be found by the janitor in the middle of the night. And he or she would become a hero for reporting that I had awaken. Though I might scare them to death in the process. Perhaps I would be forgotten here forever.Perhaps I had died. And they were just waiting for somebody to come by and take me to the morgue. But no, I still had the oxygen mask on. They wouldn't have left that running if I were dead. Perhaps it wasn't running, and they had just left the unstrapping of the mask to the cleanup crew. They didn't ever explain that on those TV shows. Yes, I was going to go crazy if somebody didn't show up pretty soon. Perhaps I should go back to sleep. But I couldn't. I was much too wide awake.Rating PG; Reading Level Very Easy 3rd Grade; Longest Word: Excruciatingly

In Book 2 of The Wizard Without a Wand, Jenie Maloy tells us her version of what happened during her first year at Wizard School. While it's the same story as Shmedley Thrumbledack's story in Book 1 of this series, we learn different things. For one thing, it's told from a different person's perspective. For another, Jenie remembers more things than Schmedley.Jenie Maloy is one of the Tensome - a group of ten kind students who somehow end up together in their dorm - Hotel Westly. Jenie doesn't want her parent to find about her friends, because every time they do, she quickly loses those friends. Jenie thinks she wants to hang with the super-rich kids. She also wants to hang out with boys, several boys, enough boys to drive her parents nuts. But she finds that hanging with the Tensome is what she really wants to do. And she learns that she has a gift she has always wanted, but which she always thought she never had. In this book, we are introduced to the rest of the Tensome and to the rest of the Teachers. Rating G; Reading Level Easy 5th Grade; Longest Word: IncomprehensiblyJennie Malloy is a young teenage girl. The day before she heads to Wizard School, she changes her name to Jenie Maloy. She hopes people will mistake her name for Genie. Her parents give her a magic diary. She can write whatever she wants to in the diary and then look it up remotely, later when she needs to know it. Her magic diary won't let her cheat on schoolwork. But it does help her remember things, especially the names of all those boys.Jenie's parents give her the choice of riding the Train to Wizard School or riding the Bus. Even though Jenie knows that she'll totally loathe riding on the Bus, she agrees to do so. Jenie figures that riding the Bus to Wizard School is the right thing to do. And doing the right thing will get her into Hotel UpAbove where all the super-rich kids stayed. Well, maybe she'd only end up in Hotel Northby where the rich, but not super-rich, kids stayed. However, something went terribly wrong. For Jenie Maloy ended up in Hotel Westly. Yet, as soon as she met the hotel clerk Pinkshny Shmerimidan, she knew that they would be best friends, even though Pinkshny was several years older. Some stories about Wizard Schools are rather dark. This book details the design for a smaller living space. You can adjust the plans to meet your desires and needs. If this book says to do something one way and you want to do it another way, investigate how to do it another way and then do it that way. Hopefully this idea will encourage your own ideas. And, hopefully, it will more than halve the carbon footprint of a typical home in the US.5,000 square feet may sound like a lot of space, until you realize we're talking about land area and that 10,000 sq ft is the typical size of a city residential lot. 10,000 sq ft is a little less than 1/4 acre. So, 5,000 sq ft would be half that much or about 1/10 acre.Since we're reducing the land area by 1/2, we should also reduce the house and the car by 1/2. The Not So Big House reduced houses to about 2000 sq ft. In this project we will go even further, reducing the house to 500 sq ft. Many starter homes, modulars, trailer homes, and two-bedroom apts are 1000 sq ft. Large RV's and Houseboats are about 1000 sq ft or less. 500 sq ft is the size of a small 1 bedroom apt or a large studio apt. We could make the house 1000 sq ft by giving it a basement or a second floor, but we want to reduce the amount of house we have to heat, cool, clean, and maintain. Some of things I've designed to maximize the space in your home and garage have yet to be invented. If they are never invented, there is still plenty of room in both the house and the garage. The inventions just give you that much more space. One of these inventions is the car. The car is a modular car, meaning it comes in pieces or modules which can be easily taken apart and put back together. The main module or cab of the car holds 2 people and a few groceries. Most of the time, the only module you need is the main module. The other two modules are a back seat, and an enclosed truck bed or van module. You can even attach all three modules together and still have a car that is small enough to fit easily in a 1 car garage.
