Prayer is an important spiritual discipline, yet for many, it can be either confusing, intimidating, or not well understood. On a popular level, prayer is commonly seen as a means to an end--asking and receiving from God. But is there much more to prayer? In Touching God: Discovering Prayer that Moves the Heart of God, you will discover a new dimension of prayer--one that will deepen not only this important spiritual discipline in your life, but also your relationship to God. This book will help you transform your prayer life from spiritual duty, to one that will touch the very heart of God, and when we touch the master's heart, we experience the power of prayer in unimaginable ways.

"Tarski's World" is an innovative and exciting method of introducing students to the language of first-order logic. Using the courseware package, students quickly master the meanings of connectives and qualifiers and soon become fluent in the symbolic language at the core of modern logic. The accompanying CD-ROM, compatible with both Macintosh and PC formats, includes a unique and effective corrective tool in the form of a game that methodically leads students back through any errors in sentences they have constructed, as well as a program for submitting homework to an automated grader. Intended as a supplement to a standard logic text, "Tarski's World" is an essential resource for helping students learn the language of logic.

David Barker takes a unique approach in this exploration of the psalms of David. Each chapter begins with a creative retelling of the biblical narrative, setting the scene for the psalm arising out of that experience. Having grounded the psalm in the "story," Barker then goes into a verse-by-verse exposition of the psalm, and provides some explanatory notes and a statement of the key message of the psalm. At the end of each psalm exposition, Barker asks three basic questions: What do we learn about God? What do we learn about ourselves as the people of God? and What do we learn about the world? Answering these questions helps us to understand how David's experience shaped his theocentric and biblical worldview. David's theology of God is of One who is sovereign in every situation and reigns as King. All of life is lived in the presence of God, and life and the act of worship, are an interactive dynamic of despair and hope, failure and success, sin and forgiveness (with consequences). David faced all of these, and his psalms reveal how his understanding of God grew and was enriched through these experiences. It is hoped this practical look at David's psalms will deepen your understanding of God and the transforming work accomplished on the cross by his Son, Jesus Christ.

"Stick it, Canada! Buy more Victory Bonds." The First World War demanded deep personal sacrifice on the battlefield and on the home front – and it also made unrelenting financial demands. Boosters and Barkers is a highly original examination of the drive to finance Canadian participation in the conflict. David Roberts examines Ottawa's calls for direct public contributions in the form of war bonds; the intersections with imperial funding, taxation, and conventional revenue; and the substantial fiscal implications of participation in the conflict during and after the war. Canada's bond campaigns used print, images, and music to sell both the war and public engagement. They received an astounding response, generating revenue to cover almost a third of the country's total war costs, which were estimated at $6.6 billion – a dramatic charge on a dominion so far from the front. This story is one of inexorable need, shrewd propaganda, resistance, engagement, and long-term consequences.

Dealmakers

Compromise is critical to democratic policymaking, but it can be hard to find on Capitol Hill. In this era of normalized gridlock, however, some politicians do still cross the aisle. In Dealmakers, David C. Barker, Andrew M.O. Ballard, and Christopher Jan Carman examine when this occurs and why the politicians that do so tend to be Democrats. The answer, the authors contend, comes down to partisan differences in personality and values among voters. Specifically, they suggest that empathetic traits and values drive Democrats to accept compromise, whereas competitive traits and values drive Republicans to reject it. As the authors show, these differences can filter up through the ballot box to the halls of Congress. Drawing on evidence from opinion surveys, randomized experiments, Twitter, and legislative transcripts, Dealmakers evaluates the train of openness, altruistic values, and other political and psychological factors that play a role in political compromise.
