In the future, it's possible to live forever--but at what cost? A.D. 2088. Christian missionary Abigail Caldwell emerges from the jungle for the first time in her thirty-four years, the sole survivor of a mysterious disease that killed her village. A curious message from her grandfather leads Abby to America, only to discover a nation where Christianity has completely died out. But a larger threat looms. The world's leading artificial intelligence industrialist has perfected a technique for downloading the human brain into a silicon form. Brain transplants have begun, and with them comes the potential of eliminating physical death altogether. As Abby navigates a society grown more addicted to stimulating the body than nurturing the soul, she and Creighton Daniels, a historian troubled by his father's unexpected death, become unwitting targets of powerful men who will stop at nothing to further their nefarious goals. Hanging in the balance--the spiritual future of all humanity. In this fast-paced thriller, startling near-future science collides with thought-provoking religious themes to create a spell-binding "what-if?" novel.

The decisions investors make will have a dramatic impact on their future and the shape of our world going forward. In Beware the Financial-Industrial Complex, David G. Shink, CFP(R) shares his view of the forces that must be understood in the pursuit of investment success. No other investment book describes the financial-industrial complex and its influence on our investing decisions. The way individuals see and understand the world, and the monetary choices we all make, will help form our future societal and financial structures. Our lives are filled with difficult decisions that will determine the security we may enjoy in the future, and David's philosophy is to maximize every individual's investments, rather than to "make you rich." Investing is a long, challenging, and difficult process. Understanding the forces that shape our choices is critical to our financial success. David takes us through the financial industry's practices and provides insight into where and how the industry's dynamics are formed. Because the recent path of our financial system has not inspired great confidence for investors, we must get back to basics and reflect on the forces that shape our culture and our world in order to make the best decisions for ourselves and our families. David's approach is ideal for those people who may never hit the "high net worth" jackpot. He shows all investors how to make the most of what they have, without useless comparisons to the ultra wealthy of this world, so that investors at all levels can attain their financial goals and secure their futures. David G. Shink, CFP(R), has been working as an independent financial advisor since 1992. He owns and operates Financial Institution Services, LLC, a Registered Investment Advisor. He and his wife Rhonda live with their daughters Kyra and Hannah in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Daniel never truly remembered when he decided to write it all down. Or why. Was this to be his legacy, or simply a confession? Whatever it was, this was the only voice people would remember. For after his stroke, a manuscript is sent by his lawyer to his daughter to be read aloud by close friends and family, from beginning until end. His self--expos takes them places they could never have possibly expected, as they unwillingly enter into his world of solitude and hear his desperate cry for intimacy. For Daniel's needs and desires lead him into the most dangerous territory of all ... the Pandora's box unleashed by the unknown needs and desires of another human heart.

At once deeply personal and infused with a profound respect for its literary predecessors, The Book of Echoes resonates with the speaker's journey through Tourette's syndrome. This exploration of motor tics, echolalia, and phantom speech gradually unfolds into a joyous and surreal celebration of Jack Spicer's insight that "Poems should echo and re-echo against each other. They should create resonances. They cannot live alone any more than we can." Welch's The Book of Echoes delights in illuminating the intimate spaces of connection that poetry provides.

This book reports on the ecological engineering of granular sludge processes for a high-rate removal of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus nutrients in compact wastewater treatment plants. It provides novel insights into microorganisms and metabolisms in wastewater microbiomes and the use of microbial ecology principles to manage wastewater treatment processes. It covers a very comprehensive and inter-disciplinary research of systems microbiology and environmental biotechnology. From the initial economic assessment of the aerobic granular sludge technology, concepts of microbiome science and engineering are developed to uncover and manage the microbial ecosystem of granular sludge. Mixed-culture biotechnological processes, multifactorial experimental designs, laser scanning microscopy, molecular microbial ecology and bioinformatics methods, numerical ecology workflows, and mathematical modelling are engaged to disentangle granulation phenomena, microbial selection, and nutrient conversions across scales. The findings are assembled in a guideline for microbial resource management in granular sludge processes to support knowledge utilization in engineering practice. Outputs are integrated in the state of the art of biological wastewater treatment. This book addresses both scientists and engineers who are eager to get insights into and engineer microbiomes for environmental biotechnologies. It makes a valuable contribution to methods for strengthening the role of wastewater treatment plants for recovering safe water and resources, in the context of circular economy and for sustaining health and the environment in an ecologically balanced society.

“Do I have life ‘more abundant’?” That’s a question millions of Christians have asked down through the ages. Dan Stone asked that question during a time of spiritual frustration in his own life and God answered by showing Dan he had been living only a part of the gospel message. Dan’s search led him to discover the truth of “Christ in you” as “the rest of the gospel” that most Christians overlook. Readers who are hungry for a deeper experience with God will resonate with Dan’s discovery of “the rest of the gospel,” which is indeed rest for everyone who is willing to finally let go and let God.

Victorian Songhunters

Victorian Songhunters is a pioneering history of the rediscovery of vernacular song—street songs that have entered oral tradition and have been passed from generation to generation—in England during the late Georgian and Victorian eras. In the nineteenth century there were four main types of vernacular song: ballads, folk lyrics, occupational songs, and national songs. The discovery, collecting, editing, and publishing of all four varieties are examined in the book, and over seventy-five selected examples are given for illustrative purposes. Key concepts, such as traditional balladry, broadside balladry, folksong, and national song, are analyzed, as well as the complicated relationship between print and oral tradition and the different methodological approaches to ballad and song editing. Organized chronologically, Victorian Songhunters sketches the history of English song collecting from its beginnings in the mid-seventeenth century; focuses on the work of important individual collectors and editors, such as William Chappell, Francis J. Child, and John Broadwood; examines the growth of regional collecting in various counties throughout England; and demonstrates the considerable efforts of two important Victorian institutions, the Percy Society and its successor, the Ballad Society. The appendixes contain discussions on interpreting songs, an assessment of relevant secondary sources, and a bibliography and alphabetical song list. Author E. David Gregory provides a solid foundation for the scholarly study of balladry and folksong, and makes a significant contribution to our understanding of Victorian intellectual and cultural life.

In The Late Victorian Folksong Revival: The Persistence of English Melody, 1878-1903, E. David Gregory provides a reliable and comprehensive history of the birth and early development of the first English folksong revival. Continuing where Victorian Songhunters, his first book, left off, Gregory systematically explores what the Late Victorian folksong collectors discovered in the field and what they published for posterity, identifying differences between the songs noted from oral tradition and those published in print. In doing so, he determines the extent to which the collectors distorted what they found when publishing the results of their research in an era when some folksong texts were deemed unsuitable for "polite ears." The book provides a reliable overall survey of the birth of a movement, tracing the genesis and development of the first English folksong revival. It discusses the work of more than a dozen song-collectors, focusing in particular on three key figures: the pioneer folklorist in the English west country, Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould; Frank Kidson, who greatly increased the known corpus of Yorkshire song; and Lucy Broadwood, who collected mainly in the counties of Sussex and Surrey, and with Kidson and others, was instrumental in founding the Folk Song Society in the late 1890s. The book includes copious examples of the song tunes and texts collected, including transcriptions of nearly 300 traditional ballads, broadside ballads, folk lyrics, occupational songs, carols, shanties, and "national songs," demonstrating the abundance and high quality of the songs recovered by these early collectors.

'I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.' Galatians 2:20 Having God's forgiveness is wonderful. Spending eternity with God is great. But for now, where is the abundant life Jesus promised? Why is the Christian life such a struggle? Because getting forgiven is only half of the gospel! The rest of the gospel is not us striving on our own to be good Christians, but Christ in us, living his life through us as we rest in him.

The Book of Mormon continues to be an important source of inspiration for millions of believers. However, since its publication in 1830, it has also stirred plenty of controversy. Some find the link between Native Americans and ancient Israelites to be implausible-however, these skeptics tend to dismiss the possibility without looking at the facts. In 60 Amazing Book of Mormon Facts, author D. David Gregory, PhD, offers compelling evidence for many of the claims found in the Book of Mormon. Using published historical and archaeological evidence, he notes many similarities between ancient Middle Eastern peoples, Native Americans, and the people in the Book of Mormon. This includes considerable overlap in culture and language. He also discusses the DNA issue. Some of the facts presented in this book were unknown before the year 2000, and this book fills many of the crucial gaps in understanding. For instance, a tribe of Mesoamerican people describe being visited by a bearded white God, which correlates with the belief that Jesus visited the Americas after his resurrection. Whether you're a practicing Mormon or a lover of history, you'll find this book to be a fascinating exploration of this holy text of the LDS faith.
