"Impish and delightful, a hilarious Zagat's guide to heaven "Ray Bradbury "A fantastical, profound, hilarious and rollicking good ride through the heavens and hells of theAfterlife A wonderful book."-Margaret Cho The New York Journal of Books."This is the most delightful book this reviewer has read in a while.... Evie King does a masterful job at mixing short vignettes of Dirk's experience with the Devil, his travels to the many heavens, his newly discovered lover, and the factual descriptions of the final paradise of each faith. The Guide to the Afterlife is a mixture of fact and fiction, faith and mysticism at its best." The Midwest Review of BooksShopping around for where you spend eternity can prove quite overwhelming. "Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife: All You Need to Know to Choose the Right Heaven" is a humorous analysis of the world's religions with a focus on the afterlife. Tying the analysis together with a quirky and offbeat novel, the laughs roll together well with plenty of substance. "Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife" is excellently composed and a read that is fun and very hard to set down. S. F. WeeklyA mock ZAGAT Guide to the Lord's domain, Dirk Quigby's Guide to the Afterlife is a sly and satirical glimpse into what would happen if a Madison Avenue mad man gave heaven a PR makeover. King clearly relishes her many opportunities to skewer the advertising industry and the pious, indulging in jokes at the expense of religions both venerable (Catholicism) and questionable (Scientology). As the book's framing narrative develops, the titular ad man finds that his succinct reviews of the world's religions (using a convenient ZAGAT-style rating scale) inflame believers of all faiths. It's a risk the real-life author is also taking. Considering her vocal support for scientific research and rational thought, and her role as an adviser for a number of science advocacy organizations, she probably doesn't mind a bit of religious controversy. All the better for us nonbelieving heathens: As King demonstrates, the devil also has the best jokes Publishers WeeklyNot for the easily offended of any faith.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: The Interconnectedness of All Kings
After writing all the many and conflicting versions of the legendary "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," beloved author Douglas Adams created Dirk Gently: a detective with a belief in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things, a unique relationship with the laws of probability and physics, and a love of cats and pizza. In his first-ever comic series, Dirk has been forced to leave his beloved England behind, coming to the too-sunny, too-cheery, and altogether too-bizarre-even-for-Dirk city of San Diego, California, where he gets embroiled in three separate (or are they?) cases involving reincarnated Egyptians, golden cell phones, and copycat killers. All this in a new town seemingly incapable of making even a single proper cup of tea.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: A Spoon Too Short

Dirk Philips, a Sixteenth-Century Dutch Anabaptist
The purpose of this book is to shed light on the thought of Dirk Philips, who was a Mennonite leader in the sixteenth century, and to argue that his various doctrines, including his Christology, ecclesiology, soteriology, and anthropology, are interrelated with his view of the visible church. This book explains that Dirk Philips' view of the visible church is much closer to the ecclesiology of Augustine's tradition rather than to the ecclesiology of the Donatists' tradition. Although Dirk Philips had excellent theological abilities and he was a leader who made a significant contribution to the development of the Mennonites camp, he did not receive much attention in the study of Anabaptists, and there has not been much research on this sixteenth-century Mennonite leader. Thus, this book will help you discover a great sixteenth-century leader who has been forgotten in church history. Is it true that the Radical Reformers are disciples of Donatus, that the Anabaptists thought that the failed believers cannot be forgiven because the church is a gathering of pure souls? This book will probe the idea that the Radical Reformation is closer to the ecclesiology of Augustine's tradition than to the ecclesiology of the Donatists' tradition.

Dirk isn’t the chosen one. Not even close. So how did they end up in the middle of a potential apocalypse? All Dirk wanted was to escape another argument with their parents and go for a nice quiet coffee. Instead, they’ve been kidnapped by agents, attacked by mal-realmers and forced to wear a boiler suit that they’re pretty sure someone died in. When Dirk is taken to Base, a secret underground …well … base, they learn way more than they need to. More about other realms, more about the battle between good and evil, and more about the absolutely terrifying Violent Jack, an evil mal-realmer determined to bring about the end of the world. Both sides need the chosen one. But there’s not a lot Dirk can do about it, is there? It’s not like it’s them. Unfortunately for Dirk, not everyone knows that.

Architect and educator Dirk Denison reflects on the diverse influences that have shaped his practice over 30 years in a volume featuring 10 remarkable houses designed in a broad range of modernist vocabularies - each finely tuned to its site and occupants. Taking the form of an in-depth conversation between architect and educator Dirk Denison and journalist Fred A. Bernstein, this volume chronicles Denison's childhood in Detroit, travels and early encounters with the arts and architecture, and his education at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the Harvard Graduate School of Design. A perceptive interlocutor, Bernstein deftly draws upon Denison's own insights into how these experiences have influenced his aesthetic sensibilities, design philosophy, and working processes over 30 years of collaborative practice. The conversation also sets the stage for the presentation of 10 houses selected from Denison's larger body of work, each illustrated in a suite of photographs with plans revealing his engagement with a diverse range of modernist vocabularies and intents in the domain of custom residential design. For design professionals and students of architecture, Dirk Denison 10 Houses draws attention to the manifold ways in which life experiences at all scales nurture and shape a career in the field. More broadly, this book is an engaging read for anyone interested in the gratifying process of conceptualizing and building one's own home.
